Netflix is raising prices for new members ($1-2 increase, not every region)

And I don't subscribe to the sports season packs and such.
There's just as much reason to count those as there is to count mlb.tv on top of your Netflix account.

Yes.

Then we are talking about the same thing.

stopped giving a shit about netflix when they started removing all the anime in my queue.

oh, pokemon has been added to netflix? might as well watch them now instead of later when they give you a removal notification due in 4 days!

I mean, how long had they been there? All the anime in my queue is still there.

only reason i currently have netflix is because i let my nephews use my account. i don't like the price hike but 2 dollars isn't going to kill me.

Alright. And I only pay $90 a month for it, not $200 a month for it.

Basic cable for me is 70/m, then another 80 for the current package we have. Then it's 10 per "HD" cable box we have and 5 for one analog box, and another 7 for the wireless modem.

All together, around 185. It sucks.

Doesn't sound like the hike is going to apply to you.

Maaaan I wish I could find a chrome app that lets me use American netflix. British Netflix is kind of garbage.

Hola Unblocker.

That being said, I don't know if simply being able to access the american netflix site will allow you to watch the american shows on a british account.

Well, that sucks.
As I said, I'm just paying $90 for like 400 channels or whatever.

42 million worldwide subscribers * $2 increase = $84 million increase in monthly revenue = $1.01 billion increase in yearly revenue

That small increase really adds up.

Yeah but doesn't account for people that quit

Remeber last time?

I think netflix is a great service but I think it's gonna get squeezed by these dumb cable companies and movie studios

Meh. My family doesn't have cable anymore because the rates are ridiculous. We mostly live off Netflix, Hulu+, and Amazon Prime and they have all been fantastic so far except hulu and it's dumb ads. They are lucky my father loves himself some historical Korean dramas.

I wish cable companies or dish could have an a la carte service where I can pay like $4-5 for stations I actually want.

Yes you can. Although, Hola has ads. There are also monthly options like Unblock ($5) and Ad-free time ($2!). And you are able to access EVERY region, not just the US site.

Increase the price yourselves and enjoy more content.

yeaah after paying a life of dvd's, renting movies on blockbuster, paying an absurd amount of money to cable providers, stupis dvr's without 5.1 and a long list of bullshit payin 8 buck for netflix fells like a steal.

I love netflix and dont have enough time for all the series and movies i want to watch.

This post basically describes me right here.

Yes, that's awesome. I'm using unblock-us too, well worth the price. Those 5 dollars are even canadian ones. So at the current rate that's 3.29 euro, a price I'm very to happy to pay.

I wouldn't blink if it was old members. I'm happy with my Netflix sub now, though I wish there was more quality TV on there.

This already happened in my region. (Ireland)
I had a subscription when they started the new price so I keep the old one for the next two years. I tend to get enough value out of netflix but the time I spend on it each month can be inconsistent.

I still think its nuts Netflix isnt $9.99 a month. Its a amazing service for its current price.

I wish Netflix introduces some kind of tier based subscription model. I would gladly pay even 15$ a month if that means a wide variety of content.

I would not be against them introducing a video store where you can buy or rent content.

Stuff seems to be going in and out of instant streaming library at a faster and faster rate now. Let me buy stuff, get a offline copy and own it forever, even if netflix loses the streaming / selling rights down the line.

I would think this would be a way to get stuff like HBO content into the netflix ecosystem as well. Thats never going to be on netflix streaming but if you can buy it per season like on Amazon I dont see why it wouldnt happen.

Well, I called this, less than a month ago at that. Netflix threatens the entire model that creates and distributes the shows and movies that Netflix thrives on. $8/mo with the selection they had was never going to last if people decided to use Netflix as their only source of entertaining.

I am extremely happy with Netflix and wouldn't have much of a problem with a small price increase. With that being said I hope they don't apply it to European countries like UK and Denmark since it looks like we'll be paying 20-25% more starting next year with the whole VAT thing.

I'd like better notifications on when shows are being removed from Netflix. Preferably a month in advance, with a bit yellow alert banner at the top that "X shows from your queue will be removed on Y date" the first time you see it.

I hate the current system of Netflix avoiding to tell you the news until like a week before they're taken down. You're forced to either binge watch shows (and I don't like doing that) or just cope with the fact that you just can't see it anymore.

So the price went up like it did on that other thing.

God, what was that other thing? It's right on the tip of my tongue...

Oh yeah, it was LITERALLY EVERYTHING.

Thinking about canceling. Just not enough there for us to watch.

Amazon Prime Video + HBO Go + Comcast on Demand covers me for most use cases.

I feel like Netflix has really gone down hill.

When existing customers get a price hike, I will probably stop using Netflix. I am not satisfied with their movie selection at all. came home on vacation to the states after being gone for a while and wanted to watch quite a bit of movies with the wife. Out of a list of a couple dozen movies, there were only a handful on there. We are at my parents's house now and luckily a bunch of them seem to be on the HBO onDemand channel that they get.

Makes me sad that Blockbuster is gone...

Yeah, you sure called something they've been talking about for awhile...

1. Purchase Netflix trial subscription
2. Cancel
3. "Lose" or "Have Stolen" credit card.
4. Get new card number
5. Get new email

Rinse, Repeat

With all the new subscriptions netflix brags about each quarter, don't their increased profits far exceed increased expenses? Unless there are more shows or they add streams per account, I'm not liking this.

Right. Are you sure you really want to go back to having to go to the store pick 1 or 2 movies from their crappy selection, stand in a line and rent them for 7-8$ which is the same price as a Netflix sub, and then have to go back every time you want to watch another movie?

You know what, Blockbuster does exist in the modern age, it's called iTunes, Amazon Video, and VUDU.

They are only making something like $4 per subscriber, per quarter.

It is the principle, dammit!

Well, I've been with Netflix for a couple years now. So I hope mine doesn't increase, though if only $2 that is not going to make me cancel. If it ever hits $14.99 I will probably cancel.

Looks like tiers might come in the future and it sounds like the price increase might hit the US.

"We want to get this done well, and make sure we grandfather people cleanly," said Hastings. That decision to grandfather current rates means the higher pricing won't have a huge influence on Netflix's bottom line for some time. Hastings said it will be "quite modest in the short term." Netflix may also experiment with new tiers beyond the core price bump, according to Hastings. "We're continuing to look at that," he said.

The company says it experienced only "limited impact" after hiking prices for new members by €1 in Ireland. In that case, Netflix promised current customers that they'd be grandfathered into the cheaper plan for two years. But it might not stretch so long in the US. "We’ll do between a year or two," Hastings said, revealing that Netflix will reveal more specifics at a later date. Raising the monthly subscription fee will help Netflix "acquire more content and deliver an even better streaming experience," Hastings said. An $8.99 or $9.99 price would make Netflix more expensive than Hulu Plus — which costs $7.99 per month — but Hulu still annoys its paying customers with advertisements.

Good God, no. You don't even realize what you're saying.

What do you mean?

A tier based system would be great for people like me who only have Netflix like service for watching TV shows/movies. I would like to have access to more content even if that means paying the double price.

Amazon Prime has a lot of the same content and comes with 2 day shipping. Even with the price increase, I find it a better deal than Netflix. I'll re-sub to Netflix when they release Orange Is the New Black season 2 (and then drop it like hot nutsack when I'm done).

Isn't even close to true. Shit movies besides every thing everyone has already seen fifty times. TV shows that are a season behind, and that's if it even has the show you want to watch.

If someone wants to watch Justified or Suits (to name a few) they can't. And for other shows like Arrow, Archer and Walking Dead they have to be a year behind.

Yeah, the season behind thing is really annoying. Though I don't think Netflix can help it. And thankfully I have enough shows to watch that I dont mind the wait.

The one major thing I dislike about Prime is that sometimes they will have some cool show that you still have to pay for in order to watch, even with Prime. :[
I don't find their "free" selection to be that great honestly.

Amazon could have a better selection than Netflix and I still wouldn't pick Netflix over Amazon. Amazon really needs to fix their shitty interface and their streaming (at least on PC). Two big things that take away from the experience.

Don't go over $10, Netflix. And a few suggestions:

  • Your Anime selection is shit. I have Crunchyroll, so I'm not too concerned, but whatever.
  • Notify me earlier in advance when shit disappears from the catalog. Please.
  • Too much overlap and flat out incorrect genre tags for movies and shows. Sharknado is not a romantic comedy. 21 & Over is not a cult classic.
  • A way to manually remove stuff from your Recently Watched list would be great. My sister accidentally used my profile once, and now it's recommending me Bratz and The Smurfs stuff.
