Netflix is raising prices for new members ($1-2 increase, not every region)

BlackJace: Don't go over $10, Netflix. And a few suggestions:
[*]Your Anime selection is shit. I have Crunchyroll, so I'm not

I have to agree with this one. They use to have an okay one, but they cut off a lot of the shows.

Amazon Prime has a lot of the same content and comes with 2 day shipping. Even with the price increase, I find it a better deal than Netflix. I'll re-sub to Netflix when they release Orange Is the New Black season 2 (and then drop it like hot nutsack when I'm done).

I'd be fine with using prime if they let me use it on my chromecast.

Isn't even close to true. Shit movies besides every thing everyone has already seen fifty times. TV shows that are a season behind, and that's if it even has the show you want to watch.

If someone wants to watch Justified or Suits (to name a few) they can't. And for other shows like Arrow, Archer and Walking Dead they have to be a year behind.

Sure I can.

The wonders of a $2.50/month DNS service.

 • Your Anime selection is shit. I have Crunchyroll, so I'm not too concerned, but whatever.

You should see the UK selection. We used to have Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Baccano, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and 5cm per second among others. Now there's Pokémon, the anime version of Metropolis, and that's pretty much it.

 • Notify me earlier in advance when shit disappears from the catalog. Please.
 • Too much overlap and flat out incorrect genre tags for movies and shows. Sharknado is not a romantic comedy. 21 & Over is not a cult classic.
 • A way to manually remove stuff from your Recently Watched list would be great. My sister accidentally used my profile once, and now it's recommending me Bratz and The Smurfs stuff.

Netflix has some decent anime though. Princess Jellyfish, Welcome to the NHK, Fate/Zero, Ouran High Host Club, Eden of the East, Soul Eater, Attack on Titan, Trigun, FMA, Spice and Wolf, Madoka,

I'm actually surprised they haven't yet monetized the shit out of netflix beyond that 8 dollar catch all fee. Offer multiple tiers just like the cable companies do. Have a 3.99 a month version that gets new content only every 3 months (and always 2-3 months later than standard) , make a 99 cent a month version that is ad supported (so when you load up a show it plays a commercial like youtube does now). Then you've got the 7.99 standard , keep it that way but offer up an even higher tier - Netflix Supreme or something- 14.99 a month and you get a much larger selection of movies- I picture it as 2 months after bluray release instead of 4-6 months and perhaps studios that want a much higher cut of the profits could be offered only in that tier - say Disney for example.

Offer a discounted netflix supreme membership for anyone that buys it for 12 months in advance, - 149.99 , almost 20 % off.

Just stress that the standard 8$ a month version won't be going anywhere.

Heck, actually they could also go one step further and offer discounted pricing for those who only want TV shows or movies but not both, maybe 4.99 for access to TV only and 4.99 for movies only. There are so many options they could use.

Damn, I'm jealous.

Yeah, there are some decent ones, but I just feel like the overall package (at least in the US) is rather lacking.

Yamada's First Time? Chaos;Head? Get the fuck outta here with that, Netflix.

They pay Comcast less money then they already paid a 3rd party to carry traffic to Comcast. So... prices should go down i guess?

Its because content contracts have been rising considerably from their original prices before anyone knew that streaming would become as huge as it is. 9.99 is still a fantastic price

And its only going to get worse. Netflix's catalog is at/near the end of some of their earlier sweetheart deals. When coupled with the absurd amount of debt the company has taken on to maintain its catalog - you can be that its not going to be <$10 for very long. I warned you guys about it with Amazon Prime and I'm warning you about Netflix... its all going to complete shit over the next 5 years. There is absolutely no end in sight to the slow motion train-wreck that has become television.

The issue Netflix has is that they can't drastically increase their operating expenses (to add more people) and not charge more money somewhere. When I say that Netflix has taken on an assload of debt, I mean a completely stupifying amount. In 2009 they had 481 million in their total liabilities (not counting the operating), in 2013 that number had grown to 4.1 BILLION in liabilities. They haven't grown their Net Income 10x over the same period. Their margins are eroding something awful, which is why they've been trying to find a way to create their own content to stem the tide. They are trying to become a network with its OWN content. That's the best way to get their margin back up. But Netflix stock is most certainly in a bubble.

http://corporate.comcast.com/comcas...s-opposition-to-time-warner-cable-transaction

Netflix's opposition to our Time Warner Cable transaction is based on inaccurate claims and arguments. There has been no company that has had a stronger commitment to openness of the Internet than Comcast and we are the only ISP in the country that is currently legally bound by the FCC’s vacated Net Neutrality rules. In fact, one of the many benefits of our proposed transaction with Time Warner Cable will be the extension of Net Neutrality protections to millions of additional Americans.

What do you mean?

A tier based system would be great for people like me who only have Netflix like service for watching TV shows/movies. I would like to have access to more content even if that means paying the double price.
You just end up with a service where you have to pay more for mostly the same stuff. You're living in an ultra-idealistic world where Netflix's library problem can be fixed with money. That's not the only thing holding them back.

my cable company was hitting me with monthly price increases until I cancelled it about 2 years ago. 1 small price increase for Netflix in the 3.5 years it has been available in Canada is OK in my book.

The addition of House has been keeping me occupied in addition to rewatching Law & Order (watched L&O on Netflix 2 years ago, wished they had more seasons)

I'd probably be willing to pay more if it helps expand the library further/add more original series

Yup, I really want to see how they handle the new contacts, it's going to hurt them.

Amazon had an opportunity to make some inroads if they can get past their shitty products and support Android.

It's still a good price, but I don't think the quality of content has gone up since the last time they raised the price.

i don't really care about any of their original shows, and the stuff they do have will only get more expensive to keep.

If Netflix goes over $10/mo it becomes less attractive. A lot less.
Still coming out ahead by being a cord cutter, but a lot of suits are working around the clock to stop that from happening.

I feel like Netflix's selection is pretty weak. I'm currently not a subscriber for this very reason.

I'd gladly pay $10 a month if it meant a much better selection.

I've had Netflix for years now and I'd gladly pay more.

The content value ranges by user but everytime I think about canceling they add another show I need to rewatch. Right now that show is House I'm watching as I type. TV shows are the value : Watch the entirety of Malcolm in the Middle and thank me later.

i use netflix and hulu as a catch all since i'm on a pretty restricted budget.
2 bucks more isn't gonna break the bank but, i cancel / hold my subscriptions when i know i'm not going to have time to watch anything for awhile.

and why are people complaining about the anime selection of netflix like there aren't free streaming and manga sites available?
are you new to the internet what is even up

I have Canadian Netflix and there is more content than I can even watch. As a father it is amazing to have a massive kids selection on hand and frankly it is a lifesaver. My own list of movies yet to be watched is about 40.

I think many in this thread complaining about content have too much time on their hands and are able to marathon the service.

If you told me in the 2000s that I could pay $8 a month to have a vast amount of TV and movies on demand in HD I would have laughed in your face and called you crazy. It used to cost $5 just to rent one DVD!

If the wife would go for it I would kill cable and go Netflix only.

They better not raise the price in Sweden. Our content selection is pretty awful compared to what you get in the US, and we already pay 79 SEK/month (about $12). I do use it quite a bit, but the available content just isn't good enough to justify a higher cost. Will probably cancel my subscription if this happens, and then just resubscribe for a month when a new season of one of their original shows is released.

Actually, the US one also had Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: SAC and Baccano, watched them all on there. I think I watched 5CM per second in a different region though.

I guess I would be ok with this... Since I use my friends subscription. Netflix has finally started to get some decent new movies but they lack in the tv show department, there are some cool shows from the 80s but they can carry you only so far.

I wonder why Netflix doesn't license more forgein shows. There might not be big audience for them but I would assume they aren't all that expensive to license either and who knows, you might have a sleeper hit in your hands.

I'd pay more for the service.

There's still no better value out there for me. I pay for a lot of stuff and Netflix is one of the cheapest as well as one of the most used.

A couple of Finnish sites are confirming that the price will indeed be raised in Finland. We are already paying 8€ per month ($11) so it'll likely hit Sweden as well. Because 1$=1€=10SEK according to bullshit currency conversions, you'll probably be paying 99 per month.

My subscription is getting cancelled on 30th anyway, haven't used the service that much. I'll sub again for a month when new seasons of their exclusives come out.

Now that Netflix offers original content i would be willing to pay up to $9.99 but they say it's to what? Bring in more content? Fucking do it already because the selection isn't most amazing. I have almost the exact same library of content on Amazon prime and i pay about the same and i get free shipping on stuff.

I just hope this Netflix against Comcast/TW shit doesn't cause them to start slowing down the pipes to Netflix because i will be fucking pissed.

So, how much longer until they start feeding us ads?
The day they start feeding us ads is the day they loose an insane amount of members.

Millions choose Netflix over Hulu because there are no ads. If i am going to pay for ads i will buy cable tv.

Hola unblocker looks like malware garbage - although I know it isn't. Thanks I will have a look at unblock-us!

Actually, I think Hola uses ad injection, so yeah it's still garbage, though not malware levels of garbage.

I'm sticking with Unblock-us, has been 100% perfect ever since I started using it over a year ago.

Nice, you just made me remember that I've been using netflix a lot less in the pass months. I think it is time to vote with my money and cancel my sub.

You really are incredibly uninformed about this
Are you really taking the Comcast response at face value? I mean they posit mobile broadband as a viable alternative for consumers with a straight face.

Just got this through my email today from UK Netflix....its happening everywhere!

But nice of them to fix my price for another 2 years as a gesture

Over here in Norway the Netflix selection was not good enough to defend the original price (I tried the free month) and now a subscription is definitely out of the question. Get 10 times the content and then I'll consider it.

Yeah its nice its fixed for current members for 2 years, but i really do think the UK is one of the last regions that should be getting the price hike 1st considering the content difference compared to other regions.

Its still a good price, but when other regions can easily have more than double the content for a cheaper price (when converted), it kinda stings a bit.
