Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

I don't know if other people are using adfreetime or are planning to use adfreetime, but there is one issue that I have with it (besides not remembering my login info well) and that is that the page that changes your country seems to be unresponsive pretty often.

Might be better with the Android or iOS app, but I only have a Windows Phone.

Question for the nerds - is this show legit good for a grownup man to watch (like Adventure Time, or JLU), or is it just good for a kids' show?

The former. At times it is darker and more violent then the movies. It starts off looking like a kids show, so just stick with it if you like Star Wars.

I loved the Act of Killing. Well made documentary.

The Fall - I would say check out Luther, The Following (not as well written), Damages. Luther is probably the closest to it.

I haven't seen TotL yet, so I can't recommend any shows for that.

I was bummed The Act of Killing didn't win the Oscar. It was really good. Also, Luther is one of my favorite shows! I will have to check out Damages since it's a female lead and Glenn Close is a great actress.

Over the past few days I marathoned The Returned and Bates Motel. The Returned was pretty great. I like the premise of the show and while I thought it dragged a bit at times, it's still quality television. Curious to see where they go next season.

Bates Motel I'm a bit more conflicted about. Carlton Cuse said Twin Peaks is a major influence but I just don't see it. I'll probably keep watching it since I think the second season just started, but it's not as good as other shows on television right now.

Also watched the movie Side Effects which was a decent murder mystery. Excellent performances by everyone involved.

Thinking about watching Freaks and Geeks but for some reason I feel like it will make me depressed. I haven't seen it before, but I just get that vibe.

Also want to watch Twin Peaks but don't want to watch a 1.5 hour pilot because I want to go out later. I'm so conflicted.

I really enjoyed it but I know what you mean- it kind of had that effect on me. Yeah it's somewhat of a comedy and it takes place in a different era from when I went to highschool, but it felt incredibly genuine and it made me nostalgic for a highschool experience I never even had. I honestly felt like I experienced highschool more through that show vicariously than I did in real life. Definitely worth watching though.

nope, I don't even rank it at #1 animated film, but I do like me my dragons

I started watching Drug War and the subtitle timing is really awful at times. A line of dialogue will sometimes last less than a second.

Anyone know what the two different clone wars are? I see one that lists episodes and other that looks like a movie? Is the latter just a movie cut of some of the tv episodes? Which do I watch first.

Nevermind. Answered above.

.

Depressing in a good way. Does that even make any sense? I think it's because the characters and situations are so well written. Gives me a tinge of nostalgia in regards to my own hs experience. The stuff with Lindsay and
milly
definitely made me feel sad. The episode with bill and his peanut allergy as well.

If you want something with a little more levity I'd recommend undeclared. :)

I wonder if Netflix will ever get the Larry Sanders Show. I've been watching it on Amazon Prime, but it suddenly got yanked this morning

It was on Netflix for a while too. I imagine whatever loopholes allowed it to go on Netflix and Amazon have been closed by HBO.

The whole Sanders series was on Netflix until early last year, iirc. It'll probably show back up eventually.

Only second to Seinfeld as best comedy show ever.

Robocop: I haven't watched this movie since I was a teen. So watching it again was like watching it for the first time. Man, this movie is fantastic. Much more gory and over the top then what I remembered. Especially the scene where
they load a crazy amount of bullets into his torso and his arm falls off. Lol was dying laughing. Great scene though.
Watch this.

The Tower: I have read a few people here mentioned this movie before. Finally got around to watching it. The Tower is a great disaster movie. It starts off a bit slow. As they have a lot of characters to introduce. But after that, the action is pretty much nonstop. The deaths are well done. The movie has a good amount of comedic scenes that translates well. I was laughing at the
religious running gag towards the end.
The CGI was great too. I thought it might be bad going in, but it was a nice surprise. The story was good for a disaster movie. Not exactly Oscar worthy, but I did shed a tear in a few scenes. Overall, I highly recommend it. And if you know anything else like this, please post it.

Oh damn, I didn't know it was on Netflix before. Now I'm even more pissed that I've missed it.

Though I subscribe to HBO, so seeing it on HBO Go would be great.

Yep. The timing was amazing. It was sitting there forever and I kept saying to myself, 'ya know I should really watch this - I've always heard how great it is.' So I start it up one night and watch the first 3 episodes or so, go to bed, wake up the next day and they're gone. I decided to start the friggin series the night it gets pulled. :/

I started watching The Returned. I'm digging it so far. Great acting and the cinematography is great. Can't praise it enough.

For those that have watched it, does the series lose its creepy factor? I got chills and was creeped out during the first episode. But not really in the second. Btw, crazy what Mr. Costa did.

Cross-posting from the unique horror movie thread:

Also watched Devil's Pass (The Dyatlov Pass Incident) on Netflix tonight which I thought was good. A small group of college filmmakers sets out to further explore the deaths of 9 hikers who died under mysterious circumstances at Dyatlov Pass in 1959. It's not totally unique but seems well made and touches on some other well-known
sci-fi stuff
which I thought was cool. The fact that its based on a real life 'mystery' adds some entertainment value.

If you liked Grave Encounters I think you'll enjoy Devil's Pass.

Attack on Titan

Random anime that I found just browsing on Netflix. Decided to do some research and I discovered is currently one of the most popular animes in Japan. I'm not that into anime, but I have to say that the story is engrossing and well worth watching. I think of it as the Walking Dead but the zombies are forty feet tall and humanity is protected by the Great Wall of China.

Unfortunately the second season won't premiere until, like, next year at the earliest. :/

Yeah, it is incredibly popular, but not only Japan. My brother has been trying to make me watch it for some time but for some reason I am never really motivated to do so.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)

Fucking awful. Easily one of the worst children's films I've seen. The animation is robotic, voice acting overblown, pacing a mess, writing trite, and all of the characters suck. Ahsoka in particular is horrible and I hope she dies in the first episode of the show. Ugh.

If the live action Star Wars films are made for kids, than this shit is for toddlers.

Please tell me the series is better than this POS.

Crap. I was planning on watching it soon too. Mainly since someone said it happens before the series.

Knowing the film is shit has partly kept me away from the series.

I'll suffer through the movie before the series even if it is that awful. I was actually kind of hoping I could watch all of them with my son but I heard the series does get darker in tone later on. I'd defintely be interested in hearing from someone familiar with the show how dark it gets. Don't want to get my kid into it only to have to cut it short if it gets too dark.

Lovely. How not good are we talking about?

It started in 2008, so the writers strike must have fucked things up during production.

I would actually suggest for people who are not anal about watching everything in order from the beginning to start with the last two episodes of season one and ignore the rest. Season one is a bunch of one and two off stories while season two and beyond begins an arc based serial show.

The Clone Wars (the show) isn't too bad. I'm big into the Star Wars lore though so I'll always be biased about it. I haven't watched the movie yet.

If you want a truly, remarkably terrible movie watch Born 2 Race. It's like Footloose meets Fast and Furious meets Talladehga Nights. That's not a good thing.

I found the worst film on Netflix just the other day in the Kids section, it's called A Talking Cat?!? and is atrociously brilliant. It's a bit like a porn movie if they cut out all the fucking and added a cat. My mind could not comprehend the awful.
