I'm definitely not against casting a black woman. But forced diversity sticks out like a sore thumb. At this point its Netflix just being Netflix. I mean god forbid they ever create a black female role that feels relevant and creative. With diversity you don't have creativity you have bland political correctness because writers are afraid to take any risks that go against the political narrative. I preferred when black people weren't used as pawns to gain social justice points and were portrayed as powerful characters. Not going to happen in 2021 but Netflix are welcome to destroy any franchise they own.

Well, the biggest problem with Iron Fist wasn't necessarily the writing.

It was the terribad casting (particularly the protagonist) and laughable fight scenes.

This is Portugal, in 1570, almost a hundred years after Columbus ended up in America. Portugal is a seafaring nation, lies right next to Spain, and from the southmost point of Spain, you can see Africa.

That there were black people in Portugal in 1570 is a no brainer. But 1570 wasn't medieval times, it was renaissance, hundreds of years of cultural evolution later. Vastly different. Also, Portugal is far from the northern and eastern countries. There'd be a bigger chance of a chinese trader ending up in Poland through the silk roads, than someone from africa.

Just pointing that there was diversity in some parts in Europe, people think of UK and USA as the default cultures...

16th century UK wasn't diverse at all, actually it was: different white people groups were conquering it over and over. We are talking about ~middle ages for the witcher and in that time only some parts of Europe were more diverse - like on the picture you posted, bit Portugal was colonial country + close to Africa like Kimahri said.

But this is still based on fantasy, not history and show is made in quite diverse (now) UK so it's inevitable that they will include people of different races.

Main series so far is sticking to the book plot and that's the most important thing, going of rails from the source material is the worst that can happen in tv show/anime (just look at Yakusoku no Neverland s2 and Game of Thrones, what a waste...), people should stop giving much fucks about ethnicity of actors, just focus if they are shit actors or not.

Then see where poland is located.

Even today, poland has practically no black people. And there are reasons why this is the case. Poland has been poor for a long time and have children enough to feed there markets. Any polish person that could earn money would flee there country in a second. Its very much a 3rd world country. There is absolute no reason for anybody to move to poland and that's the reality of it. However the west that has lots of colonies in country's that have black populations + slave trade + wealthy and import black kids when they can't get kids themselves created far more black people in those country's. And country's located right next to africa will obviously have a bigger black population naturally.

Poland is a relatively homogenous country. With over 38 million inhabitants, it has only 175,000 refugees. Around 5,400 of them are of African origin.

No I love the UK. Obviously there is corruption but the corruption in my ancestors country is on another level. Also I don't like hot weather.

I think it's only natural ethnic minorities are succeeding in the middle class range of people. Alot of ethnic minorities are more living to live together this saving money. Ethnic minorities don't have a drinking culture whih alot of British spend a ton of money on which means less savings. Ethnic minorities have vacations in their ancestors countries which is much cheaper and usually they have somewhere free to stay in comparison to British people who spend their money on expensive holidays. This saving money on housing, less expensive hobbies has created a disparity in my area where alot of ethnic minorities are doing great financially. Financial stability also means more kids etc so that could be a answe to why we are getting more ethc ic minorities, not just from immigration but birth rates.

On topic, it's kind of sad that The Witcher isn't getting any respect as an IP, it was already ruined by taking away Triss Merigold in the first series. Can't someone else get the IP and do it justice?

Luckily Peter Jackson did LotR trilogy before all of this nonsense.

This pisses me off immensely. The Witcher books and games depict a semi-Medieval fantasy world that's based on Eastern-European Slavic myths and folklore, its countries and peoples are amalgams of West, East and North Europe. When you start making the internal consistency and believability of that fantasy world subservient to the need to show off diverse casting, that world immediately becomes fake. It's an immense contrast to Game of Thrones where the producers obviously created a fantasy world that felt real, because they didn't allow anachronistic elements. In GoT the various countries and peoples of Westeros world where ethnically consistent so at no time was the illusion of verisimilitude disturbed, but The Witcher TV series didn't every try: medieval characters speaking and acting like 21st century people, a troubadour singing modern songs, cities and villages inhabited by people whose ethnicities are from all over the globe (Europe, Middle East, India, Asia, Africa), black wood elves ... the list goes on and on. The whole thing just set my teeth on edge. I only lasted 2 episodes.

I had been looking forward to The Witcher but it was nothing but cheap, badly made Netflix trash.

Why are they disgusting? What makes it disgusting? You know people would flip their shit if an Asian fantasy or Middle Eastern fantasy, for example, prominently featured white people. It would be called whitewashing. We've seen it happen time and time again. Remember Ghost in the Shell? If this is disgusting, then that outrage was disgusting.

Personally, if the show ends up being good I'll give it a watch, but this casting certainly makes me suspicious of their intent.

LotR and GoT would never hare become global phenomena if they hadn't been so faithful to the source material and that meant an all-white cast. That's how the books described these characters and the show runners made sure that the casting reflected the authors' (and the fans') wishes. Just imagine how Netflix would fuck over a tv series based on the books with a modernized genderblind/colorblind, recasting of LotR with a black Gandalf, a few gender and race swapped members of the Fellowship of the Ring and an all-female version of the Riders of Rohan. The bad guys (Denethor , Saruman, the Nazgul, Gollum, etc) would remain white of course.
