Network Cables : How long is too long?

I'm looking to buy a network cable to connect my Xbox to my modem, and I need at least 25 feet to connect it. My problem is that I have two options. The longer 50 foot cable is actually cheaper than the cheapest 25 foot cable (at Futureshop at least), but I'm worried the extra length, coupled with a cheap brand of network wire, will lead to some minor lag (with SF:AC, minor lag is enough to fuck you up bad)...

So I ask you... does it really matter?

I'm streaming video from my PC to the Xbox with a 50ft RJ45 and have no problems with it.

I've heard that the max length would be 250ft for a network cable. THAT is long :lol

I got 100 ft of Cat 6 cable from newegg for like $15 after taxes/shipping.

I promise you won't notice the difference between the two. The best route is always just to make your own cable and get the perfect length everytime, but if you find the stuff cheap, go for it.

328feet is the max length of a cat5 cable IIRC.

ayup.

Max length is 100 meters before the signal needs to be boosted. That can be done with a common hub or switch.. basically anything that accepts and sends the signal that has its own power source.

with a 50 foot cable, you won't notice a damn bit of lag.
