New 1up Castlevania/IGA interview

Michiru Yamane is wasted on the PS2 CVs. Certainly, the music if fantastic, but if they aren't even going to bother to release a full OST anymore, who fucking cares? Put the kick ass music on a game I'll actually play. What was the last CV OST? That CotM/HoD complilation? Nothing offiical for LoI, AoS, or DoS. Bastards. :/

The CoD and LoI soundtracks are going to be release next month.

"IGA: Do you think Sony concept approval would let us? I doubt it."

Does he even know that Konami is porting Suikoden 1 and 2 to the PSP? Or is he that out of loop with his own company?

SolidSnakex said:
He was suppose to do that (a Rondo re release) after Castlevania Chronicles. And it still hasn't happened.

SolidSnakex said:
How was it? He's doing 2D CV's on handhelds, what other handheld could give you an ultimate version of the game?

SolidSnakex said:
If that's the case, he needs to get to the PSP lovin like Kojima has.

It'd be for CV's anniversary. Generally when a games anniversary rolls around the company will re release a version of one of the games in the series. So they asked for SoTN given that its the most popular game in the series.

I see somehow, you've kept on your agenda-based crusade to whore out Sony and insult IGA in the process. I have no idea why you dislike the fact the man likes working on a platform that doesn't continuously cut him off like a bitch but hey, that's your perogative I guess.

To reiterate from earlier:

1. IGA knows better about SCEA approval process in reference to his games than you do.
2. IGA himself said he wanted to port it, but cites company problems. Hence: "Sony cut us off like bitches."
3. Oh hey, look at Resident Evil DS! Wireless play, multiple play modes, improved graphics, extra content. Well I'll be damned!
4. IGA IS NOT KOJIMA. You're ignoring two facts: Kojima gets a free pass anywhere because Metal Gear Solid is a system-pushing name this gen. And...hey, IGA keeps getting cut off like a bitch from Sony.

In summary:

1. IGA gets cut off like a bitch from Sony's approval process frequently.
2. Nintendo provides a platform that can handle SOTN. Don't kid yourself. If IGA wants to put it out, then he'll do it. But as for now, he wants to make NEW STUFF.
3. You don't know shit about shit.

I realize I'm on the bubble as it were, but with the mass amount of agenda-based bullshit and misinformation you're pushing, someone has to come out and say it.

No, there is a need. Please continue this forcefulness until Iga comes to his senses and does this. It must be done!

Just port SOTN to the DS! You can DOO EET!
Why? This is one game where a PSP version would be much more appropriate. Can you image how beautiful a high-res SOTN would be on the PSP?

Shit, I don't mind if the next original CV is still on the DS, just give me a high-res, pefect port of SOTN for the PSP, and I'll be happy.

High res as in.. completely redone expensive high res assets that would be way way too expensive or just "zoomed out" high res?

EDIT: Or maybe kof'94 rebout style 2xSai "high res" gfx :)

:lol at people expecting a hi-res port of SOTN.

Still, though, if it were to be done, who's to say the DS can't handle it? :p

:'(

You see, the problem is that SOTN doesn't run at 640X480. It doesn't even hit 320X240. It's literally the same as the DS resolution. Therefore if they ported it to PSP it would either be letterboxed like Princess Crown, it would look pixelized to all hell or they'd have to spend lots of time and redraw the entire game which is something they wouldn't do for a mere port.

We'd all love a PSP resolution Castlevania game, but it doesn't appear feasible right now. A port of SoTN simply wouldn't make sense, whereas the DS would make for a painless, perfect port. Especially with the higher MB cards coming up, we probably wouldn't even see a bit of degredation of the music.

Regardless I'd love to have SoTN portable in any means possible. If that means a PSP PSX emulator by god's sake: GET WORKING ON IT HACKERS!

QFT

however I'd love to see them do a 2 1/2D metroidvania game for a console someday, surely it would cost less than a high-res 2d game

Well, it could handle a sotn++ but not at high res... it's missing about 10 vertical pixels from the PS1 resolution to begin with :P

5 from the top and 5 from the bottom means you won't even notice a thing. Ever so slightly cropped backgrounds that most of GAF couldn't even tell if they had a gun put to their head. It's really sick how close the original SoTN resolution is to the DS' native res.

*PSP 2D GAMES*

Actual 2D/sprite-based games:
Darkstalkers
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
Guilty Gear Judgement
Princess Crown
Tales Of Eternia

What's this? They're all RPG's and fighting games? Genres that still find a bigger fanbase with 2D than 3D? YOU DON'T SAY.

Polygons ahoy!
Twelve
Extreme Ghouls & Ghosts
RockMan-RockMan
Iregular Hunter X
Exit
Loco Roco

And the rest of them are 3D games in a 2D perspective, which goes...with Sony's desire to have games on the PSP that show off its modern console graphics.

So uh, what was your point anyway?

Andy787 said:

That's the problem, SOTN is not high-res. IGA's team would have to re-draw everything, and as he's said in the past he's not up to it. It's what's holding back a high-res 2D console Vania. Too much work, and not enough money.

High res as in high res. When I'm posting about what I would want, I'm not taking into account how much money it's going to cost Konami. And I don't know why people continue to respond to others like that. It's what I would like, not what Sony would approve, or Iga would be interested in making, or what Konami would pay for.

And if it can, would you rather play it on the DS? I'm sure many would, especially in this thread, but I certainly would prefer it on the PSP. Not only is the screen considerably sexier, but the aspect ratio would be extremely fitting for the style of game, and I prefer the button layout of the PSP much more for traditional games. It would just feel much better, imo.

Does it make a difference what system it's on? Really? Why do you want it on the PSP? Oh, here we go...

...which was designed for a TV aspect ratio...

...and now you're just making things up. Both have identical button layouts.

Indeed, which would be excellent.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, I'm saying it's what I would like to happen.

As long as we're on the subject, I wouldn't mind Sonia Belmont naked and willing in my bedroom.

Willing to make delicious sandwiches.

there would also be bread, meat, cheese, etc in my bedroom

I want it on the PSP... because I want it on the PSP? HOLY SHIT

Thanks for the revelation there, Matlock. I guess when 16:9 is the traditional TV aspect ratio, we wont be able to design Castlevania games anymore.

Shit, I liked Castlevania, too. :'(

Okay, maybe layout was the wrong word. Does placement sprinkle as much sand in your vagina?

I'd love to play (any new) Castlevania on the PSP screen.

I'd hate to play (any) Castlevania with the PSP d-pad.

I'm conflicted.

See, I would really like a game that does everything we've been promised for Fable but there are wishes that are just much too far away from reality to even bother, let alone using them as arguments against games being on other (in this case more suitable) platforms.

Now, a 2.5D castlevania would indeed be nice on the psp.

Okay, maybe layout was the wrong word. Does placement sprinkle as much sand in your vagina?
What? Both are left and right of the screen. DS buttons are smaller but the dpad is better. That's it. Yes the DS' dpad is better, it just looks bad.

Redesigning a pre-existing game for a wildly different aspect ratio isn't an easy thing. See: Princess Crown.

Okay, maybe layout was the wrong word. Does placement sprinkle as much sand in your vagina?

I don't get where you think I'm upset, but even the placement is the same. Crosspad on the left, buttons in cross formation on the right, and two shoulder buttons. :p

Gosh I said neither. I asked you simply if you prefered the Dual Shock.

You're the one that said PSP couldn't do 2D well. I answered your question with my Darkstalker experience.

You seem extremely touchy.

My sarcasm detector was broken, and the internet is SERIOUS.

But honestly considering how nearly every Darkstalkers review, and impression states how poor the PSP d-pad is for it, I don't think Darkstalkers was the best game to bring up in defense of the PSP. I've tried KOF 99 and shit via emulation and it didn't work well for that either.

Castlevania UMD movie. Problem solved. :lol

Definitely 2.5D Castlevania with cel-shaded poly models, if the required sprites on PSP are just too costly. Heck, that's what a number of devs are doing on the DS, and with good results. Sonic Rush, Viewtiful Joe DT, Ultimate Spider-Man, and New Super Mario Bros.

DS is 256x192 (on one screen).

SotN is 256x224.

The PSP is 480x272.

A standard TV is 640x480.

Neither the DS nor the PSP can handle a high-rez 2D Castlevania.

If Konami's gonna make a high-rez 2D Castlevania, I'd want it to be on a PS2-or-better console, and then you can have your widescreen, or 5.1, or any other fantasy features that you want (just not portable).

Quick question: Is DoS hard to find? I can't buy it right now and if it's going to have the same faith as AoS... well, I'll try to hurry up to get it.

Konami's portable Castlevania's since HoD have seen low prints. They don't expect them to sell extremely well, so they print the bare minimum. I'd recommend you snag a copy of DoS as soon as possible.

Umm Iga is a man. Note that it says "but if Iga is only going to have her work on 1 of those games", where her is a composer for some of the CV games.
