New Board Gaming |OT2| On Tables, Off Topic

I really like the way that looks but seeing how little it has raised this early, it doesn't fill me with confidence that it will get backed. And if it does, it would still be a long way from the good stretch goals like solo rules.

Do echo the worries above though, it's slow to get going.

Understandable. Though I wonder how many people are also on the fence because "it is slow?" Curious if all those slow backers would make it not so slow?

Wow, some awesome games in that sale. Too bad I already own pretty much all the ones I'd be interested in :p

-Coup or Resistance obviously if you are into social deduction
-Splendor, 7 Wonders, 1901 in terms of light but strategically interesting euros
-Concept & Dixit as party/"activity" games

There's some other games in there that are too heavy for me but critically acclaimed: 1812, Legends of Andor, & Mexica

I have played Andor it's really not that heavy. It also teaches you everything in a neat way.

I guess we have agreed to stream the next time we play KD:M lol. I will post it in here for anyone that wants to see some tomfoolery or the game in action.

It's weird to see the heavy Andor comments when the reviews of the game indicate that it's very simple and good as an introduction to board games, and any turn is basically rolling a die or two.

I mean, it could be more complicated than Amazon reviewers indicate. I just got the impression it would be too random and simplistic for me. :p *sips glass of fancy wine, plays worker placement Euro*

Weight is a weird thing. I mean all but the absolute fiddliest of games are actually really easy once you learn them. Agricola is just take a worker, do stuff, feed people!

I would back it if it carried more than square boxes or wasn't 120 bucks.

The big one can carry rectangle size boxes, but they have to fit vertically rather than horizontally. This is definitely a high end bag but it looks to be worth the money. Sure a $3 canvas bag does the same thing but this has the padding and some really interesting opening design. I don't like my game boxes to get too messed up so this will be worth it to me.

Heads up to my board game babies in here. This is a kickstarter for a really cool bag. Wanted to make sure people see it as I've been looking for something like this for a long time.

The Game Canopy

"Experience the thrill of of packing the Game Canopy full of all your favorites!" - must've sprained a muscle hustling that much

They had to make a separate pledge level to give you a shoulder strap?

I use a messenger bag to carry some games. I can usually fit two standard boxes + 2-3 mid-sized boxes, and there's still room to fit some little boxes. It's more than enough for most game nights, save for the rare all-day gaming binge, in which case the people there will probably be bringing games, too.

I'm currently using an Olympia duffelbag from amazon. I think it was around $30 and it's HUGE. It fits a ton of stuff. My issue with it is that it's TOO big if you just want to take one or two games.

Andor is more Euro than Ameritrash, the only thing the dice do is decide combat. You are essentially deciding which monster to let through and which to eliminated and where would be optimum place for your character to go to.

Yeah I use a duffelbag too if I am feeling ambitious, otherwise I throw one or two in whatever other bag. Most of the time, heading out to play board games means whoever is hosting has something in mind for what they want to play anyways.

I guess I'm the owner of Millenium Blades now.
I love the output from L99 Games, though I don't get to play the games I actually buy. I was going to order MB from their store but waited too long and they stopped including promo packs 1 and 2. With the news that they are out of copies with no immediate plans for a reprint, and CSI/MM being OOS, I figured I should jump on one I saw in a GeekAuction. Another Flash Auction went up this evening and someone pretty quickly did a BIN for $80, so I think this is one that might get kind of pricey while people wait on a new printing. I know that Battlecon: Devastation was highly sought-after when out of print a year and a half or so ago.

Lots of options for carrying stuff but hey whatever floats your boat. I have three different duffel bags (small, medium, large) and a couple hockey bags (XXXXL) in a real pinch :p. The one thing I hate about transporting games is how games can deteriorate over time bouncing around in the car, to-and-from game nights etc. Never have spilling or any egregious issues like that but have lots of "well loved" games just from the transport.

My games never leave the house. Just thinking about it is like an ocd trigger of some kind. My home is set up to host large groups of people. Our dining room is basically a gaming room and that table seats 16 comfortably. People come to my games, I don't take my games to people!

Anyone else in here play Liberty or Death?
Man I love this game. Its tons of fun solo but also both as a competitive and even cooperative game.

And if you play through the tutorial game the game is quiet simple to grasp

I tried playing it solo this weekend, as a first-attempt at the game. It didn't go so well. I'm familiar with the COIN rules, but this game feels like Cuba Libre times 2.

Saltlands looks interesting to me. I love the theme and the game looks interesting as well.

I think they are crazy with the price of that Collectors edition though.

I still like to support guys that truly wouldn't be able to make a game without kickstarter as opposed to these giant companies who use it as a preorder system. This seems like one of those games.

Box art and concept art looks cool. They are trying really hard to make a Mad Max game there. Defenders of the Last Stand will fill that void nicely and already almost ready for shipping.

That Collector's Edition is crazy expensive and it seems ludicrous that "cheat sheets" is not the first stretch goal. A UV layer on the box for enhanced imaging is before the cheat sheet.

Up to 312 'merican dollars to get all the boss expansions with the Dark Souls Kickstarter now. That isn't including shipping which I am guessing will not be cheap.

Ended up ordering Coup and Love Letter, mostly to play during lunch breaks at work. I tried Coup a couple nights ago and love it, and have heard good things about LL, so I'm excited to add more games to our rotation (which consists of Sushi Go! and Exploding Kittens right now, with the occasional Avalon even though it usually is a lengthier game).

So besides the minis, is there anything to the actual game?

They have a video of a boss encounter which uses an AI deck to govern it's actions and a write up about exploration. Nothing really in detail, no full video walkthrough and no rulebook of any kind.

I am glad that I am not that interested in the gameplay because that price is just insane!

that's only if you have to have every miniature being offered, the bosses are just big expansion figs. The base game right now for little over 118 or so quite a bunch of figs included with more free stuff to be added to the pledges still.

They need to get a rulebook out or such though, really want more in depth knowledge about this game, it looks cool, but so have so many big mini board games.

Have you played the tutorial?

I read through the first part of the tutorial (the section for normal play without bots), and followed that fine. I guess it'd help to read the bot section, too?

Part of the problem is being pretty unfamiliar with what the commands are for the different factions. There's stuff I have to sort of unlearn from Cuba Libre

I have pledged already, but I do need to see more of the game to be sure about going in on the expansion stuff. The game as it is now without a full gameplay demo or rulebook is not looking that great.

I love it. The best addition to the game is the French slow build until they can fully influence the board. That level of asymmetry hasn't been seen in the series yet.

Falling Skies is shipping from GMT this week, too! I suspect it will become everyone's favorite once they play it. It's fast and deadly, and the feeling of the faction capabilities is really nice.

Play through the tutorial. It gives you a great hands on with the different commands and how you actually use them.
After that you can add the bots. :)

Man, I just got back from a local store and had a blast while there. There were five other people that were available to play the advertised game for the evening, Smash Up. I've played a couple dozens of the game and love it. However, most every game I played of it was only against one other person while working up in Greenland and 2P Smash Up is a different beast altogether compared to 6P Smash Up.
We went around in a circle choosing one deck and then reversed at the last person. It was base game plus Awesome Level 9000. I wanted to try pairing Pirates with Robots so I choose Robots but someone else grabbed the Pirates. Two of the people playing had never played before and the other people had other decks they were shooting for so I was worried about looking OP by selecting Zombies as Deck No 2 (everyone that was in the know was acting like Wizards were what should be kept out of one of the experienced player's hands). One player dropped out halfway through so we just didn't replace a base after he left and went from 7 bases to 6. 6 bases was still pretty hectic though. I couldn't get my Robot chains to go off for a while and didn't have bases that worked well with them. It took me a while to play a card that let me send all Tenacious Z's from my deck to the graveyard, so those didn't make an appearance for a while either.
Close to the 2.5 hour mark, I was in the lead with 11 VP. I had a great combo though that let me play a ton of minions for 20 power on a 20 power base (that already had 2 power on it from another player) and take the Win.
It was a bunch of fun. I've never played with any of the people there but want to go again. I have had Formula D for a while and never learned to play it and that is what they are playing next week, so I am going to try to go to it. However, that night is my wedding anniversary, and that takes precedence, but we can't do anything too huge on a Tuesday night, so I asked my wife if she took the day off, we could do some stuff during the day and save a big dinner for the weekend (allowing me to go play Formula D).

Getting ready for tabletop day this saturday, I decided to order 2 new games.

1) big book of madness

and

2) battlecon devestation of indines

holy shit at #2. this game is amazing. if you like 2d fighters, this is your game. the game comes with 30 different characters and they truly are all different. not only does it come with the essentials for 1v1, it has a singleplayer/co-op dungeon crawl with it as well.

ive been playing mostly on table top sim to learn, but i cant wait til it gets here. it might replace ashes for me.

Always wonder what going to a tabletop convention would be like. I imagine people have their good and bad experiences from them.
