Square Enix president, Youichi Wada, tells gamers what to expect from the next generation Final Fantasy game.
Youichi Wada has recently released a few more details regarding the Revolution iteration of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. Wada says that we can look forward to "online capabilities, magnificent graphics, and an intense use of the revolutionary control of the platform."

This game has apparently been in development for quite a long time, so we can also probably expect a little deeper and more cohesive story-line than was featured in the GameCube version. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Revolution will be in US stores by the end of the year.

AMN will keep you updated on any other news involving Square Enix.

searched "crystal chronicles"

er shit revolution, could someone change the thread title

Yeah, me too. Though from those comments maybe it'll actually have some kind of story this time? That's good, or they are just better off calling it Mana of Crystal Chronicles.

in revolution? no way! that's impossible

I never played FF:CC for GCN but wasnt the screens from the GBA intergral to gameplay? I wonder if this will be multiplayer online only or if itll be a more gauntlet-like adaption.

wow, I didn't like the first one at all (I hated using the GBA as a menu), but this sounds pretty interesting. If it ends up being like an online Mana title, I'm game

I thought Crystal Chronicles was an absolutely gorgeous game, with an amazing art style. And despite the fact that it had some definite flaws, I thought it was a fantastic game, too (with more than one player, anyway -- the game as single-player wasn't much fun). I've been looking forward to the sequel (and the DS game) so much because I'm hoping that they can maintain all the great things that made the original fun and innovative, while fixing some of the flaws that bogged it down in parts.

Having the game be Wifi online goes a *huge* way in the right direction and almost single-handedly ensures that the game will be superb.

There's no way that's true.

Do we know for a fact that an FFCC is being developed for the DS as well as the revolution? I remember when the gamecube version was being made, some misinterpretations made it seem like a GBA version was coming as well, but really it was GBA connectivity.

Why? It seems extremely plausible to me that this could (and will) happen. The game has likely been in development for quite a while now, and Nintendo's probably pushing for a very quick localization turnaround as the game is likely to be one of the Revolution's most important early online games. Nintendo's going to want to stress the wifi support right out of the gate, and a strong, high quality, Square RPG in the launch period certainly helps there.

They call that news? Obviously the game was going to feature online, and the other stuff is typical crap developers say to hype games up. That's a new news low, but it is Advance Media Network... so.

...why? According to the developers, FF:CC stayed away from heavy story focus for a reason, and that reason was they were afraid new players would find it hard to join in mid-game if there were too much story to catch up on. If the Revolution and DS versions are different it'll be because the developers decided to go in a different direction (or because different people are involved), not because of a supposed longer development period.

good stuff. i, for one, will be very impressed if nintendo has managed to line-up an exclusive ff for the revolution's launch. even if it is a crystal chronicles game...

hopefully, they will implement a more in-depth story this time. as far as i'm concerned that is what the first one was missing the most. no ds-only multiplayer either. that shit is for the birds...

The insubstantial story was one of the major complaints focused on the first game. There's at least some chance the developers will actually have taken that criticism into account and developed a better next product because of it.

*faints*

If it's really coming by the end of the year, it's definitely the product of a different development team (unless it's just an enhanced port of the GC version or something). Most of the original FF:CC staff were busy on Code Age Commanders until late last year.

It's possible that development has been speedier than we think because they went with the GameCube game's engine as a basis, similar to what Nintendo's doing with Smash Bros. That's not to say the game won't look good or even next gen, because it probably will.

I don't know about whether or not it will look "next-gen." From a technical perspective, it probably won't. I am, however, quite sure that it will look great -- sometimes it's not about the hardware, but what you do with it. What made the original Crystal Chronicles so beautiful wasn't the system specs, but the stylized feel and the sheer artistry of it.

I agree with you that it's unlikely the game really needs a massive development cycle. I doubt they're going to reinvent too much from a gameplay perspective.

The graphics in the gamecube one were pretty hot. Some delicious looking water - i remember there was one bit that seemed to push it to the limit where you walked through the barrier thingy - the cube would chug a bit but otherwise a very pleasant game, visually.

Very soon ! I expected a lunch in 2007 for Christal Chronicle II, but it is a good news really.

Seems like good news all around. Loved the first but it was just so damn hard to gather friends together who all owned a GBA and had the time to work on the game together. A fully fleshed out online system with Revolution would pretty much get my dollars unless they find a way to screw up the game.

I agree. I wish they had the item sorting option that Square has in FFXI though, cuz all that loose shit made your inventory a nightmare in CC. Other than that, the character design, multiplayer elements and soundtrack were great.

The only problem with the first Final Fantasy Christal Chronicles was the stupid link with GBA: without GBAs, the 1-Person quest was not rich enough.
The Revolution will NOT have this problem, so I expect a better game.

EDIT: change the thread title please !

I find this info awesome, but also unpossible. You heard me: UNPOSSIBLE.

Magnificent graphics? Well, it's nice to see somebody saying positive for once. Even if it's not Xbox360 or PS3 level, it could still be great.

Thread is useless without Selkie boobies.

Fixed.

Yep -- they mended ways pretty late in the Gamecube's life, and that (plus the system's dramatic trailing of the PS2 at such a late point) meant they only made the one game for it. The fact that they're going to have their first Revolution game right in the launch window opens up the possibility for a lot more Square Enix support of the console. I'd like to see a few more RPGs from them this time around.

The thing for me is this: I generally (raad: almost never) refuse to buy any console until I can see that it has enough support in the genre I care most about, which is RPGs. That usually works out to three or four quality RPGs released and several more in the works. However, a wifi-online Crystal Chronicles 2 and the Virtual Console will be more than enough to get me to purchase the Rev right off the bat.

Oh yeah.
ffcccelebrate6yt.gif

And now that I saw several trailers again; the music was absolutely fantastic. And the storytelling at the beginning of each level. *runstolookforsoutrack* (except you hear the overworld theme too often)

Actually, I don't find the "end of the year" thing to be so unbelievable.

Lately, it seems that with every hardware release by Nintendo, Square has a game out for it.

GB micro and DS Lite both so the launches of high-profile Square games.
Didnt Egg Monster Hero or something come out for the original DS around launch too?

So, this isn't so far fetched - considering its been years since the GC FFCC came out, and the Rev version was the FIRST definitive announced Rev game... and Wada was among the first developers to give praise/quotes on the Rev.

Man, this actually is kind of exciting if a console Square game actually launches, ya know... early.

This should be a launch title for Revolution in my opinion. Would help kickstart WFC on Revolution if this was at launch and then SSBM game shortly after.

Just, err... so you guys know, there isn't actually any new information here. Wada hasn't said anything since E3 2005, and this article misquotes what is said in the original one it's recycling. It's all just conjecture.

Why not Super Smash Bros. at launch? It is that unrealistic to expect it as a launch title for the Revolution?

I believe it is. They will delay it until it's absolute perfection.

Yeah, the info in this article seems made up, and the source is just another Nintendo fansite...

I wouldn't take this too seriously, guys. Someone's gonna get hurt! ;)

Do you by chance have Wada's original quote somewhere?
