Not sure how to feel about it, but I guess yet another cute, lighthearted female superhero book isn't what Marvel exactly needs right now.

She-Hulk is hot.

No lies detected.

People don't buy those She Hulk books. :(

SIGH. At the end of the day, the She-Hulk books we loved just didn't work for Marvel on a business level. When CW2 first launched, that was my first thought when we found out what happened to Jen. I mentally prepared myself. Marvel was giving up on her because as much as the fans enjoy her, they couldn't find a way to really make her work for everyone. She-Hulk was gonna die for sure.

I don't know any Marvel readers who actively hate She-Hulk so I thought that was such a huge missed opportunity. She wasn't some also-ran who was just taking up space in a crowded lineup. Her books bring something unique to the table and provide a pretty unique tone and sense of humor. Marvel has pushed way more comedy focused books recently, considerably more than they did when the Dan Slott run was a thing, and more high profile to boot.

I assumed She-Hulk's injuries would prove life threatening and that we wouldn't see her books anymore because they just did not fucking sell.

I know how this looks, because we never want to see them miss the point completely on a unique character like She-Hulk. But as mentioned they are building his story knowing full well what a She-Hulk book SHOULD be like. They're not saying that's wrong, but that it's not where She-Hulk is right now as a character. In addition, there probably isn't going to be another Slott-esque run any time soon. This isnt meant to sound defeatist, but it was either this or nothing for a new She-Hulk book. Id rather get this, knowing they want to make a solid character development arc and take her to new places, instead of just trying what's proven to fail before. They tried something a little different with Soule's run, but maybe they just want to try something with more character drama.

My hope is, even if the first arc is reflective of what's been going on with Jen lately, that they can eventually find a balance between the two sides and give us the best She-Hulk run yet.

Your gonna ignore how DC's Rebirth has been kicking their ass in sales each month? CWII, outside of the main book, has not been a great sales booster for all their titles.

Yeah.

Civil War II has been such a dissapointment. I even had to look if I forgot an issue, it seems nothing has happened in months.

people always forget the best part

Oh my god

Could be interesting. A story about coping with depression and the upending of your world after a loved one is murdered by friends who betrayed you, and finding a way to get back to some semblance of normalcy, coupled with the fact you're a green-skinned, seven-foot tall superheroine lawyer. Might be a fresh approach for Jen provided the story doesn't dwell on her despair and sinking to the very lowest of the lows before building Jen back up, or ignores that Jen has an incredible support group that's built up around her in favor of "going it alone, watch me despair" edginess.

"She-Hulk grapples with real depression after personal loss, goes through the same things experienced by millions of sufferers but with a superhero twist" = would read.

"She-Hulk shaves her head, buys a motorcycle, hangs out in bars, generally is promiscuous and violent and angry at the world to hide her sadness" = no thanks.

Little known fact about She hulk

while Hulk gets stronger the madder he gets

And Rulk gets hotter the madder he gets

She Hulk gets stronger the more AFRAID she is.

She once got hit with a mental whammy and damn near took out the whole avengers

I really like the cover and what it shows this could potentially be about. I'm not a comic reader really but this sounds awesome

Ugh, that's like the exact opposite of what I want out of a She-Hulk book. Someone at Marvel needs to rip Slott off Spider-Man and force him to write "Jennifer Walters, Ace Attorney" stories until the end of his days.

As much as I love She-Hulk, it's pretty obvious that no one in Marvel's wheel house is interested in writing a story involving the law when literally every problem from the last arc is concluded with, "And then 'x' showed up, and the case was dismissed/settled/outright forgotten about".

The REAL problem with a dark mopey She-Hulk is that the end result destroys her character and her place in the marvel universe, which ends up with a run like the time she became a bounty hunter with that skrull woman who she maybe had a lesbian relationship with, and then she founded a female supergroup that literally fizzled into nothing. They've tried rebuilding her image and it just doesn't work because every reimagining they have for her is some real dull, real dumb, USA original movie bullshit because court cases aren't seen as exciting.

yay for the huge push for Jen and surviving CW2 in-tact

ehhhhh at the mood? whatever's, we'll see. excited!

Yeah this is where I'm at. Happy Jen is getting a renewed push instead of just killed off and replaced.

It's an interesting setup and I'm not calling doom and gloom over the tone just yet. I'd rather have this than no She-Hulk.

Umm, yes please?

Don't understand why this doesn't sound awesome to just about everyone

I don't want to see Superman fucking brooding it up, but a badass giant green woman with a brilliant legal mind? Put my name down for fifteen

If it's good I'll check it out. Within the last so many years She-Hulk has become one of my favourite superheroes. When I'm done university I really want to read more of her older stuff

"Marvel never does anything interesting or new, and characters never develop in meaningful way."

"We're doing something new with She-Hulk that we feel will develop her in a meaningful way."

"NOT MY SHE-HULK!"

She-Hulk is one of my favorites. I'll give it a shot, though it's not what I typically expect from her books. Let's hope it's done well.

There are about 6 other characters at Marvel doing what She-Hulk does actually managing to sell books.

When She-Hulk got her recent solo and did what she traditionally does, she flopped.

I know, but they could just give Jen a break while some other heroines do her kind of thing. Her injury may have been a huge part of CWII, but when she gets better they could just have her go back to cameoing in comics like Hellcat for a short while instead of pushing the angst route.

I hope this actually pretty great, and I'm going to pick it up regardless (Both out of love of the character and to spite the droves of manchildren I saw get pissy about She-Hulk borrowing the "Hulk" title for a bit), but this doesn't seem like the right fit for the character. Here's hoping I'm wrong, though!

There is an argument to wanting to explore a women's anger, especially all the stuff that's happened during CWII. It would be completely out of character for her to just go back to being happy Jen. We already have a bunch of happy female solo books. Let's get some angst with She-Hulk.

I hate Mark Millar so much.

the moment i realized he wasnt worth shit
I advice the both of you to read Huck. He hasn't done angst stuff in a long time.

My biggest issue with this as a premise is that to get to this point they had to ignore previously established levels of invulnerability and healing factors.

First world comic book problems I know, but still.

Put her in the Squirrel Girl comic or back in the Patsy Walker comic then !

This is the best modern She-Hulk:

.

Not that i'm jumping up and down for grey hot topic jen but ... seriously... this is what people like their She-Hulk to be?

Kay.

I hope she has a moment where she beats the snot out of someone/thing and halfway through starts turning more and more green cause she's not all dour and mopey anymore and is having a blast being a hero and saving lives. Something like that.

Nah, I like that She-Hulk will have her own main starring book again. She's a good IP that shouldn't be stuck only playing the 2nd fiddle 'foil' role to minor characters. Let her shine on her own with a little new direction and see what happens. I'm cautiously optimistic for this. Hopefully it'll be more than just a Savage She-Hulk retread.

But then would that development for ger character matter? You would rather have her cameo as a lighthearted character whose decelopment regarding this major traumatizing even occur offpanel so that she can come back and cameo? All just because she should be lighthearted?

As far as I'm concerned, it would be a crime to not explore this arc. Plus it's not like Marvel hasn't been pushing her. This is a great way to explore a character a different light that she hasn't been looked at in. Plus, it's not like it'll be permanent.
