New DOA4 scans, new level (56k...)

Blimblim

The Inside Track
From Famitsu Weekly 885. Not really a new level since it was in DOAU, but this new version is very different.

It took me some time to realize the image on the lower right of the first scan was not an actual photograph. Very impressive.
Also a nice surprise for Ninja Gaiden fans :)

This game keeps getting better and better looking, that screenshot of the bridge over the river looks like a good painting.

Also I recall itagaki saying he wanted to do the bridge in DOA4 but wound up putting it in DOA ultimate instead. So it isn't too suprising to see it here.

Very impessive. There are a few shots in that first scan that are getting very close to photorealistic (at least at a glance, at least).

The bridge was in DOAU, but the rest of the stage looks very different.

Lovely.

I hope Christie's outfit from the print-ad is in the game....

er..

...so I can complain to Jack Thompson about blantant sexism in videogames.

The bridge level is looks incredible... itagaki knows how to bring life into his environments.

He said that he would bring some of his favorite levels from DOA: U into DOA 4... so i guess we will see more.

One thing that's interesting is that the scans talk about how you can slip if you're hit by even a tiny attack while fighting on the lower water part below the bridge.

I find that awesome.

I really love how DoA4 is turning into an environmental fighter where you'll really need to keep track of your environment and use it to your advantage if you want to win. Since DoA is never going to be better than VF as a VF-clone, it's nice to see it form its own little niche where it's something like VF meet Powerstone.

#1 game I'm looking forward to on the X360 right now.

What's the roster for this game? The article says 16 but I thought it was closer to 20 (wasn't there going to be 6 new characters or something?).

Just curious.

The slippery surface suff was in DOA3 and DOAU (maybe DOA2 as well, not sure). It happens on water, ice and snow. Basically every hit takes on counter hit properties.

Also, the roster is currently sitting at 23 so long as nothing has changed since it was previewed back in October.

Confirmed Characters

1. Ayane
2. Bass
3. Bayman
4. Brad Wong
5. Christie
6. Hayabusa
7. Hayate
8. Hitomi
9. Helena (unlockable)
10. Jann Lee
11. Kasumi
12. Lei Fang
13. Tina
14. Zack
15. Gen Fu (unlockable)
16. Eliot (new)
17. La Mariposa / Lisa (new)
18. Kokoro (new)
19. Spartan 458 (new / unlockable)

Unconfirmed But Very Likely

20. Ein (unlockable)
21. Leon (unlockable)
22. Alpha 152 (new / unlockable / boss)
23. Unknown Question Mark (new / unlockable)

Yeah, that roster sounds great. But why the heck do the interview guys say they got to play as 9 of the 16 playable characters!? I mean even without unlockables there's way more than sixteen. I guess a few of the confirmed ones will be hidden?

The more stages the better. This one looks great. I hope they add even more stages from DOA3 and DOAU. The beach from DOA3 and the snow stage from DOA2/DOAU would be nice.

No clue. The TGS build had 10 characters playable with another 7 greyed out, but on the character select screen. The X05 build had 11 playable characters with 6 greyed out. Both versions had 6 question mark boxes and a random select for a total of 24 squares.

There are 16 default characters, so I guess that may be what they're going by, but I have yet to see a character select screen that didn't have Helena greyed out on the bottom row (making it at least 17 characters visible on the select screen), plus the 6 question marks.
