New Dragon Quest Heroes trailer (with SHOCKING NEWS about free DLC)

Those are some attractive looking models playing. And I want to be in that dq themed room.

Also, dope ass boxart! Anybody have hq of that?

This would be a good Spring game in the US while releases are still quiet.

if I get to choose, my party will definitely be male mc, Jessica, yangus, and the blonde female archer. Can't wait to see Jessica and yangus again after so many years. :)

Those are great graphics too for the type of game this is.

Great trailer, pretty hyped for this. I'll give it a few months, if a localization isn't announced by summer I'll just import it. Looks too fun to miss out, especially as a DQ fan and someone who kinda likes musou.

Man I so hope that they have Toruneko planned as a DLC character in the future.

less than 2 weeks until release and no mention of any multiplayer or online element probably means there isn't any in the game?

The main site has it listed as a single player game.

This also was mentioned during an interview at the Taipei Game Show

“There are no plans for completely synchronous multiplayer,” Ogasawara said, “but we will be incorporating a fun little element that uses the network. We haven’t officially announced that yet, but I think you’ll enjoy it.”

looks very good but seriously.. when its free why making it as DLC in the first place?..
They did something similar with DQIX, although due to the nature of the DS, many of the locked superbosses could be accessed easily.

Why is Torneko popular among Japanese players?

He's had his own spinoff series since the Super Famicom.

Hes been a pretty iconic character of the series for a while. Lots of folks loved the super famicon game. Then there were 2 others on the PS and PS2, then a GBA? port of the PS2 third game in the series.
A personal favorite too when it comes to main line DQ game characters with him being a character in DQ IV

So could see him showing up as a DLC character with his weapon being the せいぎのそろばん (Abacus of Justice)

We need to start pestering Yoshida for a Western localization.

Very beautiful game from what I have seen and I think it has a huge sales potential, really looking forward to it.

If it's not gonna reach the west, I will just grab the Japanese version :)

Game looks great though I really hope SE will not make a habit of releasing DQ games on Sony platforms again. I don't want to buy a PS4-shaped dongle just to get my fix.

What are the chances of DQXI appearing on PS4? History has shown us that DQ goes to the most popular console and stays exclusive but it also has shown us they've been gone weird with a portable and local multiplayer focused IX and a lame-ass Japan exclusive MMO Wii and WiiU DQX.

Think about this: the graphical benchmark for DQ games comes from a 2004 PS2 game (DQVIII)!!!

It's a good game.

I don't know if we should take DQH as an indication of where DQXI will end up. Though there has been talk of the series taking a more multi-platform approach to releases. So, PS4 could potentially be one of the platforms for XI.

There will at least be an old DQ HD on PS4
according to verendus

Sweet!

Two questions:
1) ps4 remake of which DQ?
2) who's Verendus and why should I believe his, I'm guessing, leak?

Oops, not remake, hd remaster
SCE employee I think

Whether they're specifically delivering a message regarding DQXI or not, there'll be more DQ on PS4 after this.

5. On the back of that, FFXII HD on current gen is basically confirmed at this point. As is one of the older Dragon Quest titles in HD (I've genuinely forgot which number though since it's been a while). In addition to that, there is a spin-off Final Fantasy title planned for consoles. Not big budget. Not FFX or FF7 in case people take it there. Not a traditional RPG either.

Looks really good. Definitely interested. Love these type of games, especially when they're built around a franchise that I love.

I hope SE is doing a FF musou-type game next.

It'll be interesting to see which version will sell the most and whether the DQ brand will be enough to shift some Ps4's.

These are the type over games that'll tip me over the point where I have to get a Ps4, so I hope it'll come out West.

Exactly my thoughts. Was thinking "Wow. This is going to sell a fuck ton of PS4's in Japan!" until the end of the video showed it was being released for last gen systems. Sony should have begged SE on its hands and knees to not back-port it.

Japan isnt the West and even if they did make it PS4 only all you are doing is locking out a good portion of the market.

The system still has a way to go before having a large enough library of market specific games to make folks feel a purchase to be more justified for a game.

Sides if it does well overall most def a 2nd title will be made for just the PS4 as by that time the PS3 production (software wise) would be ramped down and the market penetration of the PS4 higher.

I don't think I agree. Even if this isn't a new numbered game in the series, you're underestimating Japan's love for Dragon Quest, and this looks goddamned amazing. Can't see the Japanese market ignoring this if it was a 'PS4 Only' release. And it's not like there aren't other big name titles from SE and others coming down the pipeline for PS4 this year.

Is this coming stateside at all or do I have to import? Seems odd to not port over such a huge franchise but we already so close to release and not a peep.

If I have to import it? Any recommendations on where to buy from without breaking the bank too much?

I think its you over estimating things really. Which is a HUGE problem most of the time when its folks on the outside looking in. People always assume that just because something is a big name title that suddenly everyone is going to jump on board which always is not the case. Several examples is always the usual due to X big title coming out "Y PLATFORM IS SAVED!" type of comments. Gaming here in general is going backwards as people have smartphones to pay attention to. Folks think way way too much in terms that the Japanese market is the same as the West which it is not. In the West things are still progressing forward with the consoles regardless of the Smartphone penetration. As for the handheld consoles, well they are doing what they usually do in the West. Does not help too that they do not get the same exposure / treatment as they do in Japan though.

The market here does not care about the PS4 just yet. Just because a single game comes out on the system only the core users are really going to be the ones who go out of their way to pick up a PS4 for a single title.

General numbers these days should give you all the information you need already as is. Only thing that really does large numbers these days are stuff that have kids behind it such as Youkai Watch, Pokemon then things like Monster Hunter and the mainline Dragon Quest games. The only other DQ spinoff titles that broke a million was the DQ Monster I & II series that was on the DS.

Far more sales will be made from them having it on both platforms for now rather than what you had suggested with having them only done it on the PS4. This is to pave the way to get people to move over to the PS4 once people start to see comparison videos between the two or hear from others.

Am sure that it will sell decent though will be interesting to see what kind of spread with the 2 versions. At least for the most part Square Enix seems to have been doing a decent job promoting the title and know a lot of the stores are too as its something that reaches a wider audience than a title like Bloodborne, The Order, etc. How good the game is and how much content is available will be what determines the kind of legs the title has. First day sales most def would be high, but would be surprised if it breaks a million during the initial week. My guess would be it hits something along the lines of One Piece Musou so around 500-600k. Though that would be like a total number sort of deal rather than just on a singular platform. Most def the current PS4 owners will be picking it up as they really do need something else to play.

Y NO DULMAGUS SQUINIX

I need this game in my veins.

Did they show in earlier vids if バラモス Baramos is going to be in the game or not? Would not be the same without kicking his ass at least once lol

I just managed to defeat Baramos in DQ3. He was a toughie!

As a side note, DQX looks so awesome.

DQX was a pretty enjoyable experience. Ive heard its gotten better too with all the updates.
At least there is a PC version now so if I ever do decide to play again can play on that without having to hook the Wii back up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-n50ZVVmLU
found some footage for you of the fight lol

My friends and I always made fun of DQX calling it the "sumo game" since there is no real hate system you need to rely on the "tanks" to keep the enemy away from the casters and such by pushing them back or keeping them in place as you see in the video. There is a weight system in the title which determines if you can push, stop or be pushed. There is a buff that causes a friendly character to become heavier. The spell was called ヘヴィーチャージ Heavy Charge you can see it being cast around 1:40 those black swirling spheres that drop to the ground.

Its one of the problems with the early AI was that they did not really make use of that system if I remember correctly, that caused it to be harder to beat certain bosses with just AI alone. Not sure if thats been addressed or not

That video is making me laugh a lot. That's one bizarre mechanic. Can you do that the whole game? I would have thought there was a hate system in place like FFXI/other MMOS.

Yeah its the mechanic that takes place of the hate system. So players really need to pay attention to whats going on at all times. Since the enemy will just start picking targets at random and why the frontliners of the group need to keep said target a reasonable distance away from the casters by pushing them lol.

Really was weird, since Ive always played as tank classes with the traditional hate system. Looks ridiculous too in practice as you can see in the video щ(゚д゚щ)カモーン

Example vid of what happens when a target is too heavy for players to push back

Older footage from last year october but man the arena and those Killer Machines look awesome, dat explosion when they looks fantastic. Will most def be using Alena a lot as always liked h2h type of characters and her move set looks INSANE.
The character switching mechanic appears to be so damned smooth too.

One thing most def is I can imagine them making the 2nd title co-op play as with all the skills and such, would most def make for some great online. The first title most def is for laying down the groundwork with everything and gathering feedback then from there the 2nd is to be put all of that into the next title along with co-op. Am sure a lot of people will be requesting that after the game is released for the next title.

For all the incredible popularity DQ has in Japan I find it difficult to believe that the last traditional single player DQ game was in 11 years ago on a PS2.

And to all those defending DQX fact of the matter is its a subpar MMO with a monthly fee and only available in japanese for the Wii and WiiU. Sure in the short term in sure it made a profit but what was surely and steadily building a fanbase elsewhere was crushed with this entry.

DQ has played it safe all of its lifetime, with the exception of DQX maybe. DQIX on a DS was the worst sin. DQXI must be on home consoles and must be a single player RPG!

I don't know! I guess we'll see in a few weeks how it fares.
And I guess it's also moot to argue "What If" scenarios on the console release. At the very least, I think it'd be interesting to see how many more PS4's it would sell if the PS4 version came out a few weeks prior to the PS3 version too. Kind of like when Twilight Princess got released on Wii launch prior to GameCube. I know a lot more Wii's got pushed out the door from rabid fans who refused to wait to play a potentially inferior version on a last gen system. But, I'm comparing the West again on that. I don't think Japan had a delayed release on it if I recall.

I have never said this before or thought this and have openly mocked 98% of them but I am almost at the point where it is twitter bomb and petition time lol

Indeed will be interesting to see the media create split. Am looking forward to it actually.

LoL! That looks hilarious and completely ridiculous. The Tank is doing more pushing than actual fighting, and the casting classes are having to help him do some of the pushing which makes it worse.

Yeah its pretty funny to watch but so stressful to actually do in game lol. As its not like you can see whats going on behind you since you need to focus forward, so its always praying that your PT is getting out of the way if you are getting shoved in a particular direction. D:

For DQ Heroes am also curious if they are going to have a casino in the game. As can see that to adding to the games life with keeping folks locked in the casino trying to earn medals to buy the best item which usually is the はやぶさの剣 Falcon Blade (Falcon Sword). Really do hope that the game does have a casino filled with the usual minigames.
