New Dynasty Warrior PSP Screens

Yes. But then again KOEI has never been known for its graphics, although they've been investing lots of money into improving that situation.

What I'd pay for a PTO III on one of the handhelds

Well, does the game that they are playing, Dynasty Warriors PSP, actually look as bad as those screenshots show? I mean it looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit ever branch on its way down.

Seriously. KOEI always makes ugly games.

But one thing that I cannot excuse is that shitty, shitty interface that this game has. It takes up like one third of the screen!

You tell me. The fact that handheld games are even at this point is quite impressive, don't you think? We went from GBA->ShittyKoeiDynastyWarriors

That said, IGN had a part about it. The polygon models are lower than their console cousins obviously and their are fewer characters on screen at once, and there's some nasty dithering. Also, occasionally some slow down.

But it still plays exactly like Dynasty Warriors, which I suppose is a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. I dislike DW.

What's with the 16-bit color like dithering? Isn't the first psp game I've seen it in either.

edit: I suck at the internet. Delete this please.

Come on it's the first time you'll be able to play a game like this on a hand held.

If you got a problem with this game, just wait for it's stream of inevitable better looking sequels.

Man does this game look UUUUUUUGLY!

Yeah you make a good point!

I recall hearing that there is a DS version of Dynasty Warriors in development, though it is supposed to have a more super-deformed style then its PSP cousin.

Yes, it features SD characters. You are correct sir.

WTF is the point of programming a game like DW on the big screen PSP if you're gonna waste one of the system's greatest assets with that horrendous interface?

I shudder to think what stupidity they're doing to the NDS version. Power down the 2nd screen to save on batts and use that same interface on the 1 screen? Jeez.

Gah. So it's gonna be like that GameCube game they made that was later ported to the PS2? What was it called, Mystic Heroes?

I dunno. They just said that they would be using the SD characters. Koei seems to have a firmer grasp of DS hardware than PSP hardware so maybe they'll be able to do something that is impressive in its own right for DS.

Although nothing KOEI makes is ever visually impressive...

Mike Works: The graphics aren't wowing anyone, even in person. It still looks better than those pics, and could even be classified as "good" when in motion with twenty guys on screen. I wouldn't classify the graphics as a dealbreaker.

Dynasty Warriors has always been a series that never impressed with its visuals. Unfortunately, it failed to do so in the gameplay department, too. At least, to me, the game has always been overrated crap.

Well, Dynasty Warrior does get repetitive after a couple of hours.

The game is a beat 'em up. Of course it is going to get repetitive. That is par for the course in the genre. But can that repetitive nature maintain its fun for hours on end? Yes.

In person, the game looks like a System 12 game. Not the best textures, not the most complex character models, but still a decent looking game. The screen is definitely doing it favors...

You can rest assured that the number of onscreen enemies is comparable to the home console versions (there does seem to be a hard limit, as some enemies will straight up disappear when it gets especially crowded). Although I haven't counted, I would estimate that fifteen guys can be on screen simultaneously. There are times when it seems that you can't even see the ground because there are so many people around (battlezones with a "Level 8" number of enemy troops, like the main enemy base).

The following pics are pretty representative of the average headcount in a medium-scale melee:

And again, looking at these pics, it looks quite a bit better on the PSP screen.

BTW, graphically, the game looks a lot closer to these screens as far as pure aesthetics are concerned (use of color), but with the lower polygon count:

Granted, these screens aren't exactly impressive, either, but they look far better to the eye than the Spong screens and are much more representative of the complete visual presentation of the PSP version.
