New Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion feature @ The Washington Post!!(PC/X360)

Holy shit! If I do my math right 50 hours of mp3 audio is about 3GB. That makes the dialogue part of Oblivion larger than some full games right now!

Will this game fit on a single DVD? I'll laugh at the "a DVD is enough" folks if it doesn't.

It fits. The printed out dialog script was 2200 pages long! :)

So, SteveMeister, any info about that PC/ 360 simultaneous release thing or should I ask kathode or MrSmileyFaceDude on other forums?

Well, I am MrSmileyFaceDude :)

But both Kathode and I and anyone else would give you the same answer -- we haven't officially announced release dates for either version. So until you see a press release from Bethesda Softworks, anything else you see in terms of release dates is unofficial.

Oh yeah, this just went up on the main website:

Ah cool, thanks for the answer, I just thought you ignored me :(

I suppose you like it here better than on Codex, eh?

BTW that PC box is pure sex!

Is this our first look at the actual game BOX of an X360 game, and not just the boxart? It's a shame that it's still green but it looks pretty cool otherwise, imo.

eso76, I have no idea how long it'd take to walk the distance. I haven't tried. :)

Ok, then i have another question, if you have the time to answer.
Are you sure the game really looks like that in motion ??? :)

No, the real question is: months ago i read some interview in which bethesda stated oblivion would probably end up being 'smaller' in size than morrowind; instead developers would concentrate on having a greater 'landscape variety and diversity'. Basically removing those large "empty" areas between towns and important locations in general.
I believe this has then changed ?
Oblivions' world's surface is actually larger, in square miles, than morrowind's or am i wrong ?
Thanks for your time, and keep it up.

Both look great and I'll own both!

Steve or Vark, can you guys answer my earlier question or do you have to keep mum on those subjects?

eso76 -- Tamriel is definitely larger than Vvardenfell. The game is huge, huge, huge. It'll still be measured in hundreds of hours of gameplay, and there's a ton of stuff to explore, lots of quests, lots of loot.

TekunoRobby -- I can't really comment on the differences graphically between the Xbox 360 and PC versions yet. We're still optimizing and finalizing everything. But these screenshots ARE from the Xbox 360 version.

Steve - how's it feel to be behind a game that looks shit hot and is anticipated like mad?

This is looking pretty damn good. I absolutely hated Morrowind for it's amazing flaws.

That sucks, imo. It should've been, like, saving the world in 150 hours and 50 hours of optional stuff. The way it is now is when you finish the game you haven't seen most of the other stuff and that gives you this bad feeling when you play the game you force yourself to do other stuff. :(

Well if you knew what you were doing, you could beat Morrowind in 18 minutes or something crazy like that. I'm sure the 20 hours is more of a speed run than anything else.

I hope the game isn't like Morrowind where eventually you become so powerful you can kill anything(except Vivec and Dagoth Ur) in a few hits. It would nice if there's always things that will keep you challenged no matter how long you play.

That 360 box is going to look sweet in my entertainment system

not as sweet as the pc box will look on my desk next to my sony SDMP234B :D

btw, will the pc version support 1920x1200? if not I AM CRY :(

Stevemeister: what advantages will ppl have playing your game with the x360 HDD compared to without the HDD?

also how do you guys feel about the 2 SKUs stuff?

and this is how you turn off real gaming industry people from posting on a forum and being public about what they are working on

Plus voice acting from the lovely Lynda Carter.

This is my most anticipated PC game and my second most anticipated game (next to zelda). Loved Morrowind, and all the new additions soud brilliant. Can't wait!

Is there any way to finagle a nice hi-res scan of JUST the front (either the PC box or X360 box, I don't care). Or, can you tell me what the text running around the border of the box says? If you don't know, just gimme the scan and I"ll translate it myself. :)

It should be at least part of this prophecy:

When the Dragon dies, the Empire dies.
Where is the Lost Dragon's Blood, the Empire's sire?
And from the Womb of the Void, who shall stem the blood tide?
So long as the Blood of the Dragon Prince runs strong in her rulers,
the glory of the Empire shall extend in unbroken years.
His Heart's Blood bleeds in darkness
For once the portals are opened, who shall shut them upon the rising tide?
From the Waters of Oblivion for Lord Dagon forever reborn in blood and fire.
Find him... and close shut the marble jaws of Oblivion.

Can't comment on differences between the various Xbox SKUs.

In my own opinion, not to be construed as that of Bethesda Softworks or anyone else who works there, I think that anyone who buys the $299 version is making a mistake, considering the a la carte prices of the stuff you get with the $399 version. I wish the prices had been $199 and $299, but oh well.

Oh and the 7:31 speedrun is great. It uses artifacts and systems present in the game without resorting to exploits, and best of all, it represents HUNDREDS of hours of playing to figure out what to do and when. Cool stuff :)

Seeing how expensive X360 is, I'm going to get the PC version. My 6800 Ultra should produce close to the same visuals, I'd think.

And seeing as how my PC isn't quite up to scratch, I think it'll be cheaper to grab the X360 and oblivion. :P
