New FF12 scans!

Children save the world in other games, so it shouldn't be much of a problem for Vaan. :) I'm not even looking to FFXII that much (mostly because of the battle system) but I don't see the problem with Vaan outside of his FMV and renders.

Vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan is just a metrosexual kid, the kind of character we are gonna see for years to come now for Final Fantasy games -_-

When the fuck will dumbshits understand the definition of a metrosexual and use it properly in context.

My fuckin god that's the one word people in game forums always use at the wrong times, every fuckin where you go.

Vaan isn't a metrosexual, in fact--he's farthest from it.

A METROSEXUAL IS a heterosexual man that is very attentive to his looks. Will comb his hair, wear ample amount of cologne, where lavish, nice, organized clothing and will even apply facial make-up.

A METROSEXUAL IS -NOT- a homosexual man who looks like a female or extremely (deserves to be on the cover of GQ) like attractive individual. Especially not the case if said invidual doesn't have his hair combed, and/or his wearing inexpensive clothing.

Vaan is apparantly heterosexual. He doesn't comb his hair. And his clothing isn't anything to write home about. He isn't a metrosexual.

His character design is shit and it's really biting the entire image of the game for me, but he isn't a metro.

LEARN IT GAF.

Dude, that's fuckin horrible.

Look at the size of that kid. And then look at his abs. What the fuck?

Oh well, good thing I abandoned the series after 9. Here's to seeing if this can rise head and shoulders above the previous FF's.

If chibi-Link can save the world, then so can Vaan.

I know what a metrosexual is dude... Dont act like an elitist all of sudden. I just made a joke. He DOES resemble a metrosexual since he looks like a woman, all pretty and stuff.

but that's how Vaan's supposed to look - disheveled, skinny, wiry. He's a street urchin right? I object to the come-hither underage male escort look in the CG renders though. I like that they're going for this look rather than the boisterous, kickin rad teenage look.

Are you incapable of not learing...anything...in life?

I just fuckin told you, a metrosexual doesn't (isn't relied on) looking like a women.

Looking pretty does not make you a metrosexual.

C'mon man, let's hope this simple tidbit of knowledge soaks in your brain this time around.

Why do you care so much? It was a terrible addition to our national lexicon that, thankfully, is past its prime. The less spoken about it the better.

This game is so late I sometimes forget it exists. Scans looks great though, almost time for a media blackout for me as well.

I can see how people wouldn't like Vaan's design, but please don't be stupid and say "OMG THIS IS OBJECTIVELY AWFUL OMG". Because, remember, this game is being made by and for the japanese and this style is "in" and there's plenty of people on GAF that have no problem with it. So yeah, just shut up or something.

seriously, I roll my eyes whenever the term metrosexual is used seriously...it's a joke word made by a pathetic and sad individual with nothing better in life than to sit around and make up stupid phrases for things that don't make any sense whatsoever. What the bloody fuck is a metrosexual anyway?

Homo is greek for same so homosexual makes sense
Hetero is from the greek word heteros...or different so heterosexual makes sense as well
Metrosexual is something that a bored tired brit came up with when he could have been spending his time playing Doom. Where the bloody balls did metrosexual make sense and who seriously give a darn, other than me and C-?

A hetero guy is a guy that hungers for chicks
A homo guy is a guy that craves dudes
A bi guy is a guy that desires both
A metro guy is a guy that...wears cologne and brushes his hair?

SENSE MAKE

and yeah...thanks for the translations :b

Looks good. Obviously the PS2 is showing some aging. This will surely be the last AAA PS2 game to hit NA.

Can't wait for the demo included in DQ8.

Also, I can't believe people are still bitchin about Vaan, the guy was revealed 2 years ago and you still can't get over his looks.

Yah. Final Fantasy games are the last things I'd accuse of having bad art.

Some of their characters designs are questionable (like FF9) but there's more to game art than character designs. Their world art make up for a few bad characters designs imo.

I agree, the epic overall grand designs is what makes FF games look amazing.

Good point. It's a thing I look forward to most in a FF game.

Yep, the staple of the FF franchise for me has always been their imaginative, creative, detailed and just plain beatiful scenery that the artists are able to come up with.

Also, the chicks are always so hot.

Translation on the last two pics:

I'm not reading any of this shit but here's the post

WARNING, possible spoiler
Translated from Japanese by: Mana Sword

Just some rough translation of the stuffs in the first link (just that my Japanese is no where near professional, and names are rough translation of course):

** Warning: possible spoilers **

First pic: Vayne said, "Surely, this country is strong."

2nd box: Ramon changed to Larse Ferrinas Solidor
15 years old/Race: Hum
Under King Gramis, ruler of Arcadia Kingdom, he is the younger brother of Vayne the 4th son of Solidor family. It is said that he is second to throne after Vayne. He holds great respect to his brother and father, and wish to be recognized like them. Instead of being lovely, he speaks and acts with a prince's style.

3rd box 1st pic:
In one scene, Vayne with a harsh look is surrounded by many soldiers. To achieve his ideal, he is willing to cause many destructions.
Somehow there's a scene where Larse explains about himself to Penelo:
- Vayne is his brother
- Vayne is very capable
- Labanasta's living condition is getting better
- Vayne's job is to maintain Dalmasca's stability

3rd box 2nd pic:
(I'll paraphrase this since it's too long)
Larse is not like other children of his age. He is very mature and smart, and always think about the ideal world and real world: how the world becomes like today, and what should be done to become ideal. He is trying to learn from Penelo who is with the orphans and Ashe, whose kingdom has been conquered. Seems like he feels compassionate towards them and is troubled by what his brother and father did.

4th box:
Balflear: He is Vayne's younger brother
(note: this is a quote of Balflear when he told Vaan about the real identity of Ramon. Somehow he knows at the very early stage that Ramon is Larse, the brother of Vayne. Balflear's real identity is still unknown).

In the magic cave, Balflear has talked about Larse's speech and behavior. His experience to get out of dangerous missions and his detailed knowledge about the society make me wonder about his true identity.

5th box:
Judge: present offering again to get out.
Separating from Vaan, Larse faces two men when he try to get out of the magic rock cave. The other person in the screenshot is called Geis.

6th box:
A person with neutral stance
Larse appears to think his brother is suitable as the next king. But, to reach the ideal many would suffer. And it seems that he does not realize that something bad will happen as the empire continue to expand. Here it mentions someone with a "neutral" political stance. Who would it be? (Can it be "Cid"!?)

7th box:
Quest
Tomage: Ever heard about people getting prize money by getting the wanted men? This is the monster version. The monster to be defeated is known as "mob".
The person who finishes the job will get a reward.

It's a pub in Labanasta. With this bulletin board, adventurers like Vaan get requests everyday. And one can choose the requests he likes. This time, the category of request is to hunt rare monster. These quests are available throughout Ivalice on bulletin boards set in guilds or pubs like this one.

8th box:
Rare monster
"Hagure" tomato (not sure what it means, may mean detached or separating or escaping) has escaped. As the target rare monster this time, one can think of its character by its name. Its characteristic is to escape after receiving certain amount of damage.

But since in FF12 the battle field and normal moving field are integrated as one, when a monster escapes one can chase after it! Therefore, when it escapes, one has to catch its moving pattern and find out how to chase it back.

After defeating it, report back to pub and Tomage will praise Vaan. Would the prestige be increased?

Tomage: Vaan, you...defeated "Hagure" tomato!? I was thinking that it's too young of you, but... Well done!

questi erano riferiti agli scan di famitsu, invece la prossima traduzione e per gli scan di Vjump con Basch e i giudici...

This is the translation of the newest update in finalfantasy12.org. Use at your own risk. There are a couple of words I couldn't figure out, but meaning-wise should be reasonably close.

*** Warning: may contain spoilers ***

Box 1
The Archadia Empire is controlling the Valentia Continent in the world of FF12. The empire is ruled by the Solidor family, including King Gramis and his sons Vayne and Larse.

- The "Judge" is a group of armed bodyguards of the Solidor family. Besides its high status they are also the strongest armed group.
- Having the power as Solidor's direct subordinate, they can judge between good and evil according to their own understanding of law.
- Judge has multiple departments, and each one is ruled by a leader and his subordinates. When added up, the total amount of people is quite considerable.
- The top 5 is the head of all the departments. The highest rank who rules over all the judges are the Judge Master: Gabulas. From the right comes rank no. 2: Judge Geis. (The webmaster was thinking that Geis is rank no. 4 from his position in the picture. I'm not sure what he means by that.)
- Judge looks well under control, but in reality they are thought as a disjoint unit; a little strange?
- They wear their armor and helmet all the time, always ready for battles.

Box 2
There is a scene about Basch being captured in jail. Various people we met talk about him as the killer of the king, and hateful and cold words are usual reponse of these people.

Balflear: (He is) such a death-hater, let alone be a king-murderer.
Vaan: You will die for sure as a consequence!

What is Basch hiding? What's the truth of the king's murder!?

Basch: It's my duty to tell you the truth.

Box 3
Judge Master Gabulas
The highest ruler of all judges; he has the highest power among all the judges. He is the closest subordinate of Vayne, and meet Vayne all the time.

The scene in which Gabulas meets Basch face to face: Is he giving Basch judgement? It appears that there is a reason why Basch is not executed.

Much info has been obtained about Judge Master Gabulas, but what is truth in all this?

Gabulas: A king murderer is expected to be executed, but anyway you live is being spared.
Gabulas: Seems like the loyal dog is eager to uphold justice in a demolished country.

The scene with Gabulas and Vayne. Vayne is among a few people whom Gabulas would bow down to.

Gabulas: Now the rebels in Labanasta are isolated, but..
Vayne: Catch the dog which escaped from the cage. You may send Geis for this.

(webmaster's opinion: who is this "dog"? Can it be Vaan or Balflear? Or Basch? Or Ashe? It is completely unclear.)

Box 4
Judge Geis
Like Gabulas, he is top ranked in Judge. Seems like he has a job of watching Larse. Even Larse would speak politely to him.

Larse: Judge Geis, I'll follow your advice.

The scene of Gabulas and a top official of Archadia: probably talking about the magic rock in this doubtful conversation.

Geis: you desire the "Naraba" (don't know what it is) rod?

Is it expected for him to know the true identity of Ashe?

Geis: Ashe Vanagan Dalmasca? (I can't translate this well without context and knowledge about two kanji's.)

(webmaster's personal opinion: Ramon appears to be the intellectual type. Let's see what will happen to him. And doesn't Geis look like a cunning and knowledgable person!?)

Heh. The first line was enough for me. I dont want to know anything else, wont be a reason to play the game

Nope, didnt read anymore of it. Tempting to, tho. :D

There's nothing new on the gameplay, just some brief recap on the guild stuff plus a lot of translated dialogue.

Thing about Kuja was at least his in-game model wasn't anywhere detailed enough that you could see all that disturbing imagery.

Im not going to read that translation. Ive kept myself on a media blackout with FFXII because I dont want to spoil anything, Ive got to make sure that this game is worth the wait.

As for Vann, he does look awful, just awful. In reality, a person who looks like Vann would never fight because they would be too worried that their nails will break. He looks nothing like a hero who is going to save the world. For once I would lve to see someone like Auron or barrett as the main character, someone who looks like they can fight anything for the world, not someone who looks like he can fight a cupcake.

I hope no one here complaining about Vaan goes to see Superman Returns in protest that he's too pretty and wears bikini underwear.

If you're young and lack facial hair, you don't have any personality or ideals. You're also most likely a girl in disguise. It's automatically easier to identify with a scruffy, older character. They also have more depth to them and are NEVER cliché.

The world view of a RPG fan...

Yeah, I mean the character art. I haven't seen enough of the world art, since these magazine scans always seem to be obsessed over showing the characters in dialogue. Vaan vs. the Killer Tomato is pretty funny, though.

I think everything aside from the main character looks great. That is a big aside though. It still seems like an opportunity lost not going with the likes of either of the two other prominent male characters as the lead, Bafflear especially or Basch.

I agree it'll be cooler to have either of Basch or Balflear as the main character, but with what we have I hope this will be one of the few JRPGs with an excellent, well thought out coming-of-age story from start to finish. Mega bonus points because the main character youth doesn't carry a big sword, doesn't have spiky hair, doesn't insulate himself from others (he's got a girlfriend!), doesn't strut around showing who's boss. And isn't mute, for christ's sake.

A poster at another forum likened him to the character Aladdin, another street rat with good intentions. So I expect the guy to be at least likeable after a couple hours.

You could still tell what he was wearing though which is what bothered people most about him. :) I thought FF9's character designs in general were the worst from the FF's last gen. And Quina is still creepy.
