Is there ANY reason for this game to look so bad. But hey, if it plays any good, I can deal. But really, this should look better.

I will buy it, I will enjoy it but that doesn't mean I can't say it looks weak for a GameCube game. I'd imagine it should look better. The 16-bit dithering is what got me thinking about comparison with Dynasty Warriors PSP.

I can't believe people think the game looks bad. What the hell is wrong with your eyes? The game looks fine, if not excellent. "Waste of Potential" my ass.

And don't PSP games look like PS2 games? So who cares if a Gamecube game looks like a PSP game. What a lame insult.

Is that a female soldier? AWESOME! A first for Fire Emblem. :) (and there haven't been recruitable soldiers since Fire Emblem Gaiden, as well).

Quick, someone needs to post a screencap of the latest Zelda game where the forest scene looks like absolute shit just to shut up these detractors.

I'm guessing these 'detractors' haven't bothered to look at the video from Nintendo's web site. I'm still waiting for them to release screens with hills or mountains or whatever. They play an integral part in the battle system, why haven't we seen any yet?

Well it's true that terrain has been pretty vital to the series, but I'm assuming due to the realistic limitations (you can't exactly have characters climbing across mountains in fell swoops now, since everything is 3D), we probably won't see mountains in the same scale. I'm sure they have appropriate substitutes though.

It's been known that Intelligent Systems has had a lot of problems with the shift to 3D. Hence all the 2D games they have been making over the years. IIrc this is their first 3D game. Not too suprising it doesn't look too hot then, since most other development studios have been working with 3D for 2 generations now. I'm glad they're practising though, their games have allways been top notch.

Figured that was probably the case. Can't wait to see what else they have in store. This game will be mine on day one. :D

It pisses me off how some developers still design the graphics of this generation as if it were last generation, for instance, this crap looks like PS1.

Uhh they had problems what, 5-7 years ago? This is 2005 buddy, they have a completely different staff now (IS has a really high staff turnover rate with many employees being seasonal part-time and others getting promoted to other divisions at Nintendo).

I don't know what their first 3D game was (it was probably a super scope game) but Paper Mario is 3D.

And there doesn't seem to be any "problems" in the graphics. the only argument I can see people making is that the map textures are "average" and the polygonal characters are "subpar to below average", which isn't really a big deal for an SRPG.

It pisses me off how some forummemembers feel the need to call every not-so-good-looking game PSone-like.

Seriously, it annoys the hell out of me. This doesn't look like a PSone game. Not even close.

Indeed, it looks like an N64 game.

But seriously, cut out this 'looks like previous generation' crap, go look at some previous gen games and get back to us on that one.

Don't blame Ninty for not photoshopping their screenshots to make them look better...Watch the damn thing in motion...

Did anybody ever think it could be bad screen captures. I have seen a lot of game that have bad screen captures but look beautiful in real life. A game does not have to look like RE4 to be good. This game looks good to me. I think Nintendo will announced this for Christmas in the US. (I hope so)

what bothers me is that last time nintendo upgated their USA GC list fire emblem wasn't there.

That's distressing. If NOA doesn't bring FE over here, they just lost a customer for life.

These terrible screens don't do this game any justice and the video proves it.

I agree. Were these screen caps taken by Nintendo?

Not that it matters for a FE game, even if the game looked like a 'PSX' game, I would buy it for 50 bucks in a instant. The GBA version looked like a SNES game and it somehow ended up being tied for my favorite game this generation.

in motion this game looks fantastic... upper echelon graphics for a strategy RPG. Everybody should check the video out, it's really impressive.

anyone happen to know if this fire emblem is going to have voice acting?

I would guess no, but since its on gamecube I would suppose its finally possible.

Judging from the trailer it doesn't look like it.

in watching the trailer again there is one point where there is text with the 'text sound effect' but that was in the middle of a battle I think. it never made it clear for inbetween or in the 3d cutscenes. Of course if the 3d cutscene is only the opening... the whole thing doesn't matter.

but in my fantasy realm of impossibilities... every battle could be separated by a cg cutscene with high quality voice acting =)

I never thought FE would be this good untill I tried the GBA version.. now I can't wait for the second one (May 23rd) and the GC version!

High res character artwork = happiness.

It'll be very interesting to have a main character that isn't a Lord.

Gamestop apparently is taking preorders for the game (they even have a funky fake box art for it). I just preordered at my local gamestop, although i'm gearing up for the japanese version anyway

They have been for quite awhile now I think, but with no solid date I haven't bothered to yet. :/

The game looks faithful to the GBA versions (which definitely isn't bad), but maybe a little too faithful - it looks EXACTLY like the GBA games, but in 3D - it really doesn't look like they added anything, other than fancy graphics and cinematics. I expected more.

Psh. This is Intelligent Systems we're talking about. Heck the map viewpoint of character sprites SUCK ARSE on the GBA but I don't complain because the game is addictive as crack.

Exactly, once you get into the game you won't give a damn about the technical features of the graphics.

One of the most addictive games I have ever played, almost impossible to stop playing once you really get into it.

Here's a few things they added:
-Status Menu contains things in the SNES games that were cut out of the GBA games, for instance fire/lightning/wind magic is split up separately now (it was combined as one in the GBA games)
-Skills are back! They specifically state on the japanese page that the skills from Seisen no Kiefu and Thracia 776 return.
-The new push attack lets you push an enemy or ally one space away. Whether you can do it depends on your weight stat. I guess this is for strategy, but it remains to be seen how useful it is.
-New classes, like beastman, birdman, and dragon. Pretty much they morph into their respective animal.
-Height seems to be a factor now. Archers may do more damage from a taller height. I'm not 100% sure about this though.

Overall i'm pretty happy with it, and i'm sure there's more to it than that. Having a new cast of characters and plot also helps as well, one of the things Fire Emblem is known for is its varied cast of characters. Each game seems to have their own devoted following because of the characters.

can you explain how skills worked in the old ones?

I can see pushing being a very useful move. Hell, even in the video they show its usefullness. Imagine a powerful wizard type character destroying your guys but is blocked off by 2 knight units with high def/hp. Now instead of having to cleave through them to get to the mage, you can shove them out of the way to get the important kill more quickly.

If the whole idea of 'rescue' (is that what it was called in the gba one? I forget) has been desposed of then it could also be usefull to shove weaker units just out of range of an enemy that can kill them or shove them into more defensive terrain or some such.

Yeah the video actually showed a pretty cool use of pushing: Ike pushed an enemy back one space, allowing a calvary unit to run up to it and attack - good for defending Ike.

Skills could either be triggered during a fight, or had a constant effect. In the earlier games, they were either class-based, story-based (gained through a cut-scene or already have it from the start), or item-based (learned from using a skill manual). An example of a common skill, renzoku (continue), lets the character attack again after his turn (so he could get up to 3 attacks). An example of a skill with constant effect is the Bargain skill, which gives that character a 50% discount at shops. The only character with this skill in Thracia had some of the worst stats in the history of Fire Emblem, so bringing him to battle was actually detrimental to gameplay and made scenarios harder if you chose to use him.

thats... thats a pretty good skill :o

when I dabbled with a japanese rom of one of the old fire emblems I remember having weapons that could be 'used' aside from just attacking with them. Was that only for one game or was it common thing and will it be in either the newest gba one coming in may or the gamecube one? I liked that.

I seem to recall the main character having a sword that he could use to heal himself.

In motion the game looks hot! I just wish they would do something about the random stats when you level up. drove me crazy! first time you did a map and lost your character got this huge jump in stats, and on the next time you get a +1 in luck.... grrrr
