Oh man, this is a pleasant surprise. I love FMA and seeing this going back to the "two bros going on an adventure" idea makes me really excited on top of the specifics behind the movie's talents. Can't wait! :D

Still need to watch the new series.

FMA pleasantly surprised me. I haven't been able to take a lot of anime seriously in recent years, because to be honest most of it seems to have a preoccupation with obnoxious little girls or adolescent boys who like to fight or something, but FMA actually opted to avoid a lot of stereotypes and just deliver a fun adventure with likable characters and an interesting mythology, which I hadn't really seen since maybe Turn-A Gundam. It wasn't a masterpiece but it was a lot of fun to watch. I think it's about time I get back into it.

awesome sauce. I haven't finished watching brotherhood yet... should probably get around to doing that soon...

No surprises L'arc~en~Ciel's doing the theme. :p

After watching the trailers, movie still does nothing for me, though I'll still watch it once it comes here.

Also the new song is okay from what I've heard in the trailers.

Ooooh, thanks. Yeah, BONES is definitely making this movie-quality. Set pieces are much more elaborate and complex, animation is great. :D

I recently watched through the original FMA (Dubbed), have yet to watch the related movie.

Then I have to go through Brotherhood.

Good. Don't.

I know anime movies are usually really bad, but whatever. I will watch it (if only for the animation, like usual).

I liked the ending of FMA, but I want to see how the movie ends too. (I believe FMA's plot deviated from the manga greatly/completely, which is what Brotherhood follows much more closely...correct?)

I'll freely admit that I feel like Conqueror of Shamballa was one of the most poorly chosen anime purchases I ever made, but that's more because I think I paid way too much for it when it first came out versus any serious complaints about the plot. I didn't even know the anime had deviated from the manga midway through the series at the time I watched it!

It did have pretty sweet opening and closing songs, though.

Well, don't say I didn't warn you.

Nothing wrong with that. The way the anime went was fine. And it had a satisfying ending, unlike the movie.

I'd rather not acknowledge the movie as cannon. In my little world, there was no movie. I've been somewhat successful at this. I don't really remember much of the movie anymore, and I can no longer tell you in detail why it was bad.

But my warning is this: it was so bad that I actively sought to forget it.

I don't really see what the big deal about Shamballa was. It wasn't really that good or anything, but you'd think it was like Indiana Jones 4 or something given all the hate it gets.

Recently finished watching brotherhood. Liked it a lot better than the original anime except on one count: the homunculi.

I really liked how the homunculi in the first series were explained. They take the form of a deceased person who an alchemist tried to bring back, and they all have the weakness of the possessions of that person on top of the one glyph thing. Stays consistent among all of the homunculi. Simple.

In brotherhood it seems more random. Some are human with a philospher's stone in them. Gluttony was a failed portal. Pride was "made from nothing" irrc and given Father's orginal flask thing form. Greed was implanted into the Xing Prince, but had a serparate conscious from his host(contrary to say, Wrath, who only seemed to have one conscious that was altered upon the insertion of the stone.)

And they have no real weakness, it's pretty much just burn it (Lust, Envy) or beat it up (Sloth) til it died.

And the monster in the flask, who created him and why? Some Xerxes guy who had at least 23 slaves use the slave's blood to make it...but for what purpose?

The monster (Homunculus)/Father was created using Hohenheim's (Slave 23 was his name, the King didn't have 23 slaves) blood through an alchemical experiment. Father had a vast amount of knowledge (because he was part of Truth in the Gate, and somehow the experiment allowed containing part of the Gate, aka Father, possible though this isn't explained very well...), so the King of Xerxes asked it how to be come immortal because he was old and going to die and had no heirs.

I never even heard about this coming out, I'm lucky to catch this thread right now.

It'll probably take forever to come out on DVD/Blu-Ray I'll bet though.

Well their weakness is that their philosopher stones have "limited" power, so if they regenerate enough to use it up, they're done for.

I still don't really get what happened to Pride, though.

Funi says early 2012 for the US BD, so it can't be that far off.

I saw the first half of it might go back to finish it. It starts off slow but I do like the guy thy introduced.

The first half? Did they split the screening into two parts or something?

I had to leave to get beers and food. Even tho I stood on line for two hours. All thenold characters are in the film. The director said the film fits in to episode 20 of brotherhood

Yeah, I especially felt that Pride and Wrath were ludicrously overpowered in Brotherhood and Lust died WAY too early. Also nothing tops the fight scene between Greed and Edward in the original anime series.

So which of you lucky fuckers have seen this at Otakon? Or has it not screened yet?
Managed to make it to both showings. (First time around I didn't get to see the whole thing because I had to leave to see the distant worlds concert.)

I enjoyed. The action was great, and the only problem I had with the story was the romance plot, which came off as an afterthought

Is this post Brotherhood, or post FMA? I just got Conqueror of Shamballa from Netflix in the mail yesterday.
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to take place relatively late in Brotherhood, but before shit really hits the fan.
