New games from Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi - now in development

Shinobi Looks Awesome.

They Butchered Streets of Rage and Golden Axe.
Looks more like Golden Axe than Beast Rider ever did, so that makes me happy. Even if it isn't 2D. I'm just hoping for the best.

That being said, I remember when the Castle Crashers craze was going on, I was hoping we'd see more 2D beat 'em ups, and was shocked we didn't. That would've been the best time to bring Golden Axe back IMO, and they just never did. It's shocking to me. It's still not too late, but I don't know if we'll ever see that.

Golden Axe is the number one Franchise I wanted them to come back with its just if they where gonna go 3d i wished they would have stuck more with the original art style. This looks overly stylized.

You and I both, haha. I've wanted a 2D return for Golden Axe and Splatterhouse (I know not a Sega title, but just the only thing that I've wanted just as bad, lol) for decades. Both I think will never happen. But man, I'd love it if they did.

But honestly I'd just want new good and decent games, and I'd be happy with it. But I'd love for them to be great. Even if they remotely look like the originals in any way.

yep. Id also kill for a Golden Axe in 3D if it where up to Return of the King (2003) quality.

HUGE pressure on the devs to get Golden Axe right after the 2008 debacle, if this one is as bad as that' then it'll be another god knows how many years for another attempt.....same as the case with Crazy Taxi and Jet Set..

I remember that there was an alarmist documentary from the US, where a boy played Shinobi and the parents were in panic because of the hours they dedicated to the game xD.

Yup, there we go - that was the one I thought it was. Sega really wants to keep their old-school fans happy.
With this action by SEGA towards video gamers, I am empathetic with the company and with this decision... I will commit to buying, at a day one price, those games it has announced.

haters gonna hate GIF

Golden Axe being 3d was the biggest kick in the nuts.
Yes it was. They build a bunch of hype over this and barely delivered. Sega really needs to listen to their fanbase. That's where there's money and sounds more like they're still beating to their own drum.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed to see SoR in 3D. A 3D title isn't going to be nearly as good as 4, Fighting Force isn't exactly an all-time great. But we shall see.

The rest I have less opinions of, except that some of them aren't what I would expect. Shinobi looks like N++.
It's a little bit of an odd time to launch a new SoR because 4 was so recent and so good.

JSR and Crazy Taxi look like the headliners here, although Golden Axe also seems to have some production value.

Shinobi looks possibly pretty cool though even for a smaller scale project.

Are they all gonna be in one disk/collection? Cuz they all look like Apple Arcade tier mobile fodder with JSR slightly less so. Sega fans deserve better than whatever the fuck all that shit was.

I really like the 3D one they went with and like the style of it. I loved the 2D beat Em ups in the past, but I find them awkward now with the perspective. If Sifu is considered a 3D Beat Em Up, I would love more of that.

It's encouraging to see Sega attempt to breathe life back into a few of their popular franchises of old. Shows that they have been actively listening to their fans craving for this stuff in recent years.

Most hyped for Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi, but I'll buy them all, do anything to make these a success so they finally... finally might, maybe, possibly.... consider making a new Outrun.

Holy.. thats a whole load of games. Its been a long time since I've been somewhat excited for a Sega game but a new JSR and Goldenaxe. Damn. Heck, go full hog and give us a new Gunstar Heroes.

Hopefully they deliver on these and don't dissapoint. If they want a resurgeance, the quality needs to be up there.

Panzer Dragoon remake feelings
good luck for u.

These are low budget indie games, guys.

These are all looking pretty good so far. Not expecting anything mind-blowing; just some good ol' Sega-esque fun. I like Beast Rider and Spike Out, so I'm okay with 3D Streets of Rage and Golden Axe. I hope they stay true to Tyris's classic bikini armor despite current 2023 modern audiences... she seems to have some sort of cape on in the preview? Or maybe it's a new/ different female lead? Anywho... looking forward to seeing more updates!

I wouldn't go that far, but it's clear they were made with the Switch in mind.

This is what I don't get. SOR already has a new era and a new energy, and it is a very good one. Right now it they're acting as if the previous 3D prototypes weren't abandoned for good reason.

If they are aiming for the Switch market and they think 3D will have broader appeal, I think they're in for a wake up call when it performs worse than 4 because they moved away from what the fans of the series like.

Looked and felt like a indie montage. Well, some of those franchises always been very niche to begin with.

(Owned Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast)

I have a feeling that they will release all those games in sort of metaverse / hub like Fortnite did with Lego & Rocket Racing and they won't be fully fledged games - in the end rumors suggested a "Super Game".

I would rather want a standalone collection of Yakuza emulated cabinets than this abomination. But yeah, sign of the times, no IP can RIP.

Let's be honest, what does SEGA expect by publishing these indies? Why do Capcom games attract attention? Square? Rockstar? higher budget games man, low budget games don't stand out, they don't impress, they don't seduce anyone. These franchises deserved more attention, after all we cannot be hypocrites Crazy Taxi was the first game to portray a believable city at 480p60fps. Jet Set Radio was a pioneer in cel shading technology. This new game isn't even cel shading, but if it is, it's of low quality and doesn't have a visual signature like JSRF had. Shinobi 3 and Shinobi X were 2D AAA games. 2002 Shinobi was a simple game with Dreamcast DNA however NightShade was an authentic Playstation 2 game in geometry, lighting effects and transparency.
Streets of Rage, again an impeccable Sega Genesis game.
Golden Axe is an example of a franchise that did not have a good 3D transition.

Beast Rider was bad due to poor use of the low budget, but it's still the best example of 3D conversion in the franchise , a few adjustments and this game works . However, Golden Axe was shown will be disappointing.

Why was Shenmue 3 bad? low budget, there is no magic, imagine if GTA 6 had the budget of GTA 4 would anyone be talking about GTA 6?

I'm not worries about the 3D games. If it was like Zombie Revenge quality I'm game.

I want a new Space Harrier with different power ups, a Panzer Dragoon style special attack gauge and a melee button to repel projectiles back at enemies.

Wow, sega actually making use of their classic ip's that's not Sonic.
Would have preferred 2D Streets of Rage and Golden Axe but I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

There's also this one

Worth mentioning that Sega had nothing to do with SoR4. Like they didn't even produce it or job it out. Sega was just letting anyone who showed up license the properties they weren't using for a while. And a couple of those turned out to be hits and they're probably feeling like they missed out.

According to Bloomberg sources, Sega is considering a "Fortnite-style" service model for both titles, offering the two high-speed arcade titles as free-to-play games and filling them with crossover content, microtransactions, an emphasis on multiplayer, temporary events and, presumably, the possible inclusion of blockchain/NFT elements.

No!! SEGA Dont do it!!

As long as Shinobi, Golden Axe and Altered Beast are spared of that fate ... I'm good.

Of course they are going to do this. And it is going to be shit.

We simply have to wait for the GaaS to fail, and for SEGA to try to get some money back with the engines by making proper offline games in a second time.

Galaxy Force III, come on, Sega.

Also: Phantasy Star V. But I can understand if they're apprehensive about that because Rieko Kodama is no longer with us...

They won't listen to you here. go now to the Bloomberg website, contact them and tell them that we, Sega fans, will boycott the company's products, so that they immediately give up on this crazy idea that could harm the franchises.

so, Bloomberg journalist can write about how WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS

all dissatisfied friends do the same now.

GTV Japan made a good case for why PS5 shouldn't be done in a recent PS4 retrospective.
TLDR: It's been 30 years and it's a finished story arc. Unlike Final Fantasy where a sequel is just +1 and similar elements.

I know. Doesn't have to be called "Phantasy Star V", they can give it a subtitle, not a number. I just want a new, proper Phantasy Star. PSO is not the same...

Ppl complaining about a 3D Streets of Rage ... we just had a successful & awesome 2D entry now let's see what they can do with 3D !

There are tons of 2D brawlers out there , we want to see the genre evolve a little bit
As long as Axel isn't a lardass hobo again I'll be happy.

A multiplayer component in a new Crazy Taxi could be really fun, even if it had some casual cosmetic only monetization. I also want a single player world as well though.
