The concept landscapes are kinda cool. Nothing too complicated or inspired, but not bad. The character art is horrid. WTF, Rare? Are we sure this shit's official?

They should've had whoever drew the Kameo comic doing the artwork for the game. It's just a generic anime style but it's still leagues better than this amateur trash.

If Brian Froud drew this horribly he would kill himself. and still draw better as a dismembered hand from the grave.

I'm a big fan of Brian Froud and own six books of his work. Trust me, not all of it is as complete as the two examples you have posted - some of his works are simple pencil sketches and others look a lot like the Kameo portrait. The elf soldier thingy is whack though.

Yeah, honestly. It's fucking concept art, people. Of course it's not going to look like A+ material.

I don't understand what that Elf dipshit is doing. It just looks terrible. No matter how people spin it by blaming Anime fans, Advance Wars and just about every other excuse in the book, that piece of art is terrible and brings down the other two right along with it.

Technically, they're not horrible- they're just uninspired, inconsistent, and seem to lack any sortof edge or direction. Its not a matter of 'quick sketch' or not. Another few hours polishing these up wouldnt have made a difference to me.

And for those that will berate my critique, I know a thing or two about art, and anyone who knows me will tell you thats an understatement. I have experience under my belt, and I know the difference between subjectivity and plain mediocrity. I'll leave it at that.

Not commenting on the quality of the art, but it is pretty fucking stupid to imply that the only people who can comment on it are people who can draw equally as well or better (it's this same stupid principle that people try to apply across the board, as well - it just doesn't work. You don't need to be able to direct movies to criticize them. You don't need to be able to program games to berate/praise them. You don't need to be Van Gogh to comment on art.) Plenty of people know what they like about art, and they know what looks ugly and what looks good. It has little to do with the talent those people commenting on it have; it's a simple matter of taste.

That said, the landscape art is actually nice. The character art IS aggressively bad.
