New keyboard recommendation

Recommend me a new windows keyboard. No wireless and no combo.

I just bought a Logitech MX518 mouse and I'm loving it. I have this old IBM keyboard and it's time to upgrade. I've been browsing Microsoft and Logitech, but their offerings don't turn me on. Microsoft's keyboards has a very cheap plastic feel to them. Logitech's new designs just seems weird.

Now the white and clear Apple keyboard just freakin' rocks but I'm doing windows. Is there anything similar for windows?

There does seem to be a dearth of "regular" keyboards out there. I don't know where companies get the idea that the only way to go is wireless and/or "Make A Button For Damned Near Everything."

Dig around CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, whatever. There's always a decent, "plain" keyboard lying around. It's usually IBM.

Apple keyboards should work with windows. You just need to use some software to remap certain keys to windows keys, for example: F13-15 > print screen, scroll lock, and pause.

Logitech Ultra-X Flat

The king in terms of looks, usability and most importantly... PRICE!! May be hard to come by (only obtainable as an OEM product) Isn't even showcased on the Logitech website.

Its pricey and probably not what you are looking for since its wireless. Yet, I have to post it because it has a docking station for the keyboard and is still useable while its being recharged which I thought was pretty neat since I don't know of many wireless keyboards that have docking stations.

whatever you do, don't get a dell.

for whatever reason, they designed some of their keyboards to have the Home/End keyset in a 2x3 insetad of 3x2 setup. Very difficult to use, and is currently attached to this computer. Luckily I'm at school so I don't use it very often, but it's still a pain in the ass.

i think it's time to bite the bullet and get a new keyboard myself. My free Rocketboard, free because of the included AOL disk i chucked as soon as i got it, has been with me for over five years, but the keys are sticking (many a spilled drink), the "R' key's morphed into a second "P" key, and the left Shift key is only for show.

Once the Media Pilot is available in the $50-$60 range, i might pick one up. Being able to control my receiver and DVD player in addition to USB charging are nice bonuses.

That's the keyboard I have. I love the volume control on it, but it took me a long time to get used to the 2x3 setup.

I have a silver Zippy illuminated keyboard, its flatness was part of the draw. That was given to my GF so I may try something new like the Saitak Gamer's KB.

Logitech's keyboards tend to have slightly smaller keys.

Mine took a few weeks to get used to, and I seem to be able to switch to a normal keyboard with no problems. But, eh it was still annoying.

While this thread is going on, can anyone recommend a bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo for my powerbook.... Id prefer not to fork over 200 dollars.

I so second that. I type my keyboard all day at work, and the bad feeling I got in my wrists from my old keyboard was gone in 2 days when I got one of them suckas above. Incredibly good.

I third the natural.

Damn, I didn't know they made it in black. Though it has been like 3 years since I got mine. :D

Edit: Btw, what is the use of a wireless keyboard?

Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth

I won't go back to having a wired keyboard. I have the above keyboard, but the standard RF version. I like it, but the signal can get blocked when I have too much shit on my desk or I have the board in my lap while covered in a blanket.

I'd pick one of these up if I could rationalize $150 for a keyboard right now ($200 for a new 'cade stick is no problem!) because I'm hoping that the Bluetooth will be a more solid connection. I wouldn't use the mouse though; kind of a waste.

Oh, also, I abhore having some Logitech app running all the time for my keyboard. I try and keep that kinda shit down to an absolute minimum.

Unless I'm typing a lengthy article, I just about never sit at my desk in front of my keyboard like is the norm. I constantly lean my chair back, kick my feet up, and hold my keyboard on my lap. The cord would get in the way of all this.

Also, I use my desk for a lot of things. Sometimes I just need to get computer shit off of it to work on something or set a stick down. Also, I don't use the keyboard while PC gaming and I sit close to my moniter when I do that.

During all these non-typing activities, I just pick the board up and chuck it somewhere out of the way. It gets moved when I need the space, and I move it back when I'm done; that's all there is to the process.
