This screams: "We're still young enough to go fast! Honestly!"

I think at their age they should probably be trying to do more cerebral, measured stuff. Unforgiven type stuff.

That solo has got to be up there with some of Kirks worst, surely?
The rest of the tune was okay. At least it's only 3 mins long and isn't a bloated over streched riff repeat like some of their recent stuff.
Well, I say recent, Suicide And Redemption is by far their worst case of over streching a tune an that came out in 2008. Oh god I'm old.

Then you have banger riffs in Disposable Heroes that's not stretched out enough! Yes, old.

That was Load/Reload. Black was commercialization of the band. I think everything after has been them trying to recapture the pre-Black years with the results being varying degrees of awful. At least this isn't St. Anger level of dogshit. One of the worst albums I've ever had the displeasure of listening to.

I don’t know if anyone noticed, but it seems to be a partial rewrite of Hit the Lights.

The main riff is really close, and then they play around with the slow part around 1:45.

The chorus is taken from a Diamond Head song.

Not terrible. Cautiously optimistic for the new album.

But let’s be real. They haven’t had a good album in 35 years.

Respect for them still moving the needle a little bit.

I can enjoy their oldies and appreciate their newer stuff when in the mood. Helps to have an Atmos/3 SVS sub setup.

Don't be jealous.

Country is for real men. Metal died in 1998 or something, right before rock died.

It's not so far fetched considering James' affinity to the genre. Mama Said being a good preview of what it could sound like.

Metallica died with Cliff Burton and Bob Rock burned the corpse.

Well your half right, bob rock destroyed that band for a lot of years. Cliff had nothing to do with it imo. Cliff would have went right along with the rest of the band in bringing bob rock in.

Exactly, thats why i said it. Metallica is not a good metal band anymore. James cant sing metal anymore. If there was anything else they were ever gonna do, its country.

I'd say they aren't a good band anymore but I'm a little bitter with how they treated Jason. Forcing him out because he wanted a created outlet in a side project to immediately turn around and have James decide that everyone should be involved in the song writing is the ultimate "fuck you". At least the just dessert were bangers with lyrics like tick-tick-tick-tock-frantic-tick-tock.

Yeah yeah we all can nitpick all sorts of missteps over the years. They did Jason dirty, St Anger happened, James blew his voice out, Kirk is pretty sloppy, Lars is an average drummer at best. But somehow they always manage to be greater than the sum of their parts. I think their last two albums are pretty damn good overall.

they are legends are have earned the right to do whatever the fuck they want. i'll always check out new music but this isn't doing anything for me. i'm just happy to see them still kicking around after all these years.

Reminds me of Avenged Sevenfold.

I'm curious in what ways since we all perceive things differently? Avenged's most Metallica sounding work is on Hail to the King and this doesn't sound like any of that. The double bass lacks oooomph and sounds flat on this track and that has never been an issue with Avenged. Hetfield doesn't sound like Shadows. That solo doesn't sound like really anything that Synyster Gates has written either.

It sounds like old Metallica and not like old good Metallica just old. Still decent-ish. I have another shot at seeing them live which is awesome and I plan on taking advantage of that.

Avenged's new album has been recorded, mixed and mastered to be released in 2023. Hopefully we'll be hearing some new stuff from them pretty soon. The Stage is pretty excellent but it's been 6 years for them too. Listening to The Stage last year got me back into them majorly and metal in general after being away for a long time. Very excited for future tour announcements.
