Somethings wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White
Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite, yeah
Dyers eve

Dear mother
Dear father
What is this hell you have put me through
Believer
Deceiver
Day in day out live my life through you
Pushed onto me what's wrong or right
Hidden from this thing that they call life
Dear mother
Dear father
Every thought I'd think you'd disapprove
Curator
Dictator
Always censoring my every move
Children are seen but are not heard
Tear out everything inspired

Innocence
Torn from me without your shelter
Barred reality
I'm living blindly

Dear mother
Dear father
Time has frozen still what's left to be
Hear nothing
Say nothing
Cannot face the fact I think for me
No guarantee, it's life as is
But damn you for not giving me my chance
Dear mother
Dear father
You've clipped my wings before I learned to fly
Unspoiled
Unspoken
I've outgrown that fucking lullaby
Same thing I've always heard from you
Do as I say not as I do
Innocence
Torn from me without your shelter
Barred reality
I'm living blindly
I'm in hell without you
Cannot cope without you two
Shocked at the world that I see
Innocent victim please rescue me

Dear mother
Dear father
Hidden in your world you've made for me
I'm seething
I'm bleeding
Ripping wounds in me that never heal
Undying spite I feel for you
Living out this hell you always knew.

There are far more cheesy lyrics in bands out there.

This just sounds like typical metal fantasy drivel.
Yeah, it’s a song about a kid having nightmares, not a retelling of the Odyssey.

I like Iron Maiden just as much or more and half their songs are Bruce belting out the same phrase over and over.

Have had Metallica in my life forever it seems, saved me many times, so they will always have a special place in my heart. I mean they always puts a smile on my face, so this ninjarelease of a new song and a tour is just awsome. Cant wait to see them for the 7th time next year in Sweden! Metal Up!

Yes you're quoting one of the biggest hits of all time, alright, yeeaahhuhhhhhhh!
Yeah, popular tunes are never cheesy…

Yup, sounds like something written in a 12 year olds schoolbook.

Vintage cheddar.

That’s pretty decent to be fair.

I stand corrected, Iron Maiden are King Cheeseballs actually. I forgot about them!

I feel like they’re a bit more tongue in cheek though?

I think I cared about being all serious with song lyrics and shit when I was a teenager, and now I'm just about having a good fuckin time. And while Sandman isn't on my rotation like...at all these days, if you've ever heard them play that song in person, it's a good fuckin time.

I'm not sure that it's really tongue in cheek as much as the aforementioned good fuckin time, which all three of their concerts I've been to were. Just from a practical standpoint, it's a lot easier to get the crowd to chant back something that's repeated over and over a hundred times like in Seventh Son than, I dunno, something like TOOL where Maynard hardly interacts with the crowd.

Here’s another, I could keep going for awhile

Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
Just labelled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred
Sleep my friend, and you will see
The dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says rage?
Sanitarium
Leave me be
Sanitarium
Just leave me alone
Build my fear of what's out there
Cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell?
No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our hell
Sanitarium
Leave me be
Sanitarium
Just leave me alone
Sanitarium
(Just leave me alone)
Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
Kill, it's such a friendly word
Seems the only way
For reaching out again

This. Unforgiven II is incredible to this day, same as Nothing Else Matters.
As is Unforgiven 1...I really can't choose one and I love how the lyrics of the two songs perfectly fit with "one" and "two". Too bad Unforgiven 3 was a disaster, imo no emotions just a slog of a song.

Metallica absolutely should do country. Metallica should be experimenting with everything. They got all the money in the world. They got a guaranteed live audience no matter what records they put out. There's literally no downside for them to go do the weirdest shit possible. The problem is anytime they try to step out the boundaries, the "fans" go absolutely ape shit. Lulu being a prime example of that. The irony is these are the same "fans" who bitch endlessly that Metallica never do anything innovative.

Mama Said on Load was country rock af, and actually sounded pretty good.

I see faith in your eyes
Never you hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail
Follow the god that failed

$200 for the nosebleeds at Soldier Field, $500+ for anything close to the stage.

🖕
I remember 10-15 years ago you can get them for $60-$80. Entertainment, travel, etc., were going to be super inflated they said (several years ago). Nobody believe them. Taylor Swift tickets were a hoot.

The crazy thing in this case is the nosebleeds showed as $90. Just for giggles, I selected one and went to check out. The total after surcharges and everything else was $200.

The fucking fees cost more than the ticket now? jfc

Yep. I'm confident that a lot of these companies are up-charging like crazy, because they could. Taking advantage of inflation and going above an beyond with it.

It is ok. I swear though, most of the comments are written by bots who have lost someone to suicide and are proud to proclaim how much this song moves them.

Never seen them so taking the opportunity to see them while I can. I think 2 nights with completely different set lists and 4 total opening acts... I paid $300 ($60 of which were fees) on Seat Geek the first day they were available for what I think are really good seats at Cowboys Stadium. it's not cheap but not awful to see some legends of metal.

They're 60. They're not angry at the world any more (and would come across like hypocrites if they forced it anyway). And they're writing songs for festival crowds. I miss the Metallica of my youth, but I don't resent them for doing what feels natural to them. They just aren't the same people and it would be strange if they pretended to be.
