New Nine Inch Nails, ah, news

according to the new Access, Trent's thinking about releasing all of his albums in the new surround formats. He specifically mentions Broken/Fixed and The Fragile. PHM is there too, but he says he isn't too keen on working with TVT again. Plus, the new album is being mixed in surround as well and he hopes to have it and the CD version out at the same time.

After the awesome mix of TDS, I can't wait. I can only hope that since he mentioned Fixed it means he might be willing to do this to more of the Halos. Maybe a double disc version of Further Down the Spiral with the US and UK versions?

Ok seriously Ministry was around way before nine inch nails just cause NIN brought the industrial sound to the masses everyone is all on his nuts. All reznor did is basically rip off Ministry if you guys knew anything about music...

Nine Inch Nails isn't even industrial.

wah wah wah nine inch nails ripped off ministry wahhhhhhhh

get over it dude. reznor has written some of the all-time classic songs. clearly he has a shitload of talent. if it was that easy to rip a band off, and thereby cause your band to become world famous and have millions of fans, dont you think more groups would do it? the answer is yes. so you can say NIN "ripped off" (borrowed, was influenced, whatever) ministry, but the bottom line is its not who does it first, its who does it best. and nine inch nails is a hell of a lot better than ministry

p.s. back to the original post, i hope nin goes on tour soon. they put on one of the best live shows ive ever seen

industrial lite or whatever the hell u want to call his sound, he is just a rip off. In the same way that Nirvana did not invent the power cord but got all the credit cause they brought it to the masses

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'

But we care about him because his songs are great.

EDIT: This is news? Does this guy make music anymore?

It's not my band and I'm not crying i just hate it when the innovators never get the recognition the deserve no matter what genre it is. Then some schmuck comes along and gets all the fame and recognition.

what are you TALKING about man? you think reznor has no talent or doesn't deserve recognition? you think he sits in his basement listening to ministry and skinny puppy songs all day and says "now how can i rip this off..." what a fucking joke.

Fuck your off genre terms. Industrial lite? More like Industrial out of my ass. If anything, Trent was inspired on his first album by Prince and Skinny Puppy. After PHM Trent went a completely different direction and has made some super fucking sound landscapes that surpass anything Ministry could ever come up with.

Not to say Ministry is terrible, but Trent is on a completely different scale.

And with that said, Godflesh > Ministry. Al would agree.

he has a new album coming next year, hence the "new album" mention in the first post.

this thread reeks of bullshit. trent has shown his ability to grow as a musician. to call him a ministry rip-off is a huge injustice.

First of all, it's power CHORD. If you're going to be picky about music...get it right.

I don't know how old you are, but I WAS around when Ministry and Nine Inch Nails each got started. Ministry's Twitch came out in 1985, and NIN's Pretty Hate Machine sounds NOTHING like it. Not even close. If anything, it sounds more like Skinny Puppy. In 1989, when PHM came out, Ministry was getting into a more metal-based sound. Was that an influence on records like Broken? Maybe...but there were a LOT of people pushing into a harder sound at that time. As for Trent's later work, are you really going to argue that something like The Downward Spiral or The Fragile sounds like later Ministry? That's ridiculous.

All artists, especially early in their career, sound like their influences, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ministry was someone Trent knew about early on. But as they grow, they develop their own sound...and if you think that the mature NIN sounds at all like Ministry, I'm afraid you're on the same drugs that Al Jourgensen is taking.

Have you heard the song "Supernaut" by 1,000 Homo Dj's? That's Al and Trent. It doesn't sound like Trent because of troubles he was having with TVT at the time and Al manipulated the voice and told the suits it was him.

Ministry is an innovator? They got their start as a shitty Depeche Mode rip-off. Steve Albini used to rip on them really badly.

Fuck, Albini probably did more for industrial music than Ministry.

Ummm..it's a cover of a Black Sabbath song.

yeah, I knew that....I'm not seeing your point though. I was just saying that they (Al and Trent) had worked together in response to what you said about them maybe knowing each other. Color me confused.

NIN SUCKS! I hate you! And I hate all the bands you like!

Geez folks, it's like Diablos 2: Electric Boogaloo in here....

Maybe you should have waited for a thread entitled "Let's give credit to innovators". This one is supposed to be about news...

...and, most importantly (I'd say), '70s-era David Bowie.

But we care about him because his songs are great.

Exactly. (Though I don't see me lining up to buy these surround remixes--another thing he rips off from Bowie is releasing eight zillion versions of his songs to feed a collector's fetish. Halo this and Halo that, etc.)

Nirvana brought the power chord to the masses? :lol

And as far as I'm concerned there's always someone before you, which is why I never want to claim a band to be the "first" or the "start" of something and is also why I mock the fame of "necessary" bands like Nirvana.

Find me one good band that hasn't been influenced by or "ripped off" another. What? Can't? Yeah, no shit. Wah wah wah, stop crying. No band is entirely original, and every band is influenced by others, directly or indirectly.
