Can someone spoil Onimusha 3 for me. I've beaten 1 and 2 but never got around to part 3.
Just play it, it's the best one in the series and you can find it for ~$15. Easily worth it.

well, if they can fix a fundamentally broken series like Resident Evil, maybe they can do the same for Onimusha.

And yes, i'm bitching about the controls. DEAL WITH IT

But they already fixed the controls in Onimusha 3 :P

Onimusha

Story set after previous game, in 1598
Main character is blue devil?
Enemy is Hideyoshi
Camera angle can be adjusted but background still looks beautiful
Different to previous games, it looks refreshing (not sure about this bit ->) to appeal to teens and people in early 20s.
Playstyle is not in the form of previous games (i.e. not "look for door to continue")

CVXFREAK - name is katakana, I believe.

Hideyoshi eh?

"Can you keep up with me?"

Too bad it won't be Koei's interpretation, I like their interpretation much better than Capcom's (Esp in Onimusha 1)

Not really. The analogue free movement was slow and dodging sucked ass, and the digital was still stuck to tank movement.

Onimusha 3 was awsome. Loved the final battle
when one Samanouske dies and the other walks in. Awsome

Can't wait for this one. Is it for ps2?

it was too hokey for me though. Michelle.... Henri... :vomits still lots of fun. They should leave the french to their crossiants. All Japan. All sword+weapon play. I liked how the franchise is inherently japanese. Please no more cross pollution

paris - eiffel tower bit = crap

The Onimusha games have been great!

Resident Evil 4 NEEDED a reinvention, Onimusha is still solid to go. They just need to expand on a lot of things.

Onimusha games have always been 'good' IMO, nothing great or amazing like some other Capcom games.

And they are considered 'good' not because they don't pull an RE4, but because they always lack that extra "umph" in terms of gameplay.

Onimusha 1 was good as it was a new original franchise with new ideas. Onimusha 2 was a bit of a repeat but the rpg additions of the partner system + tons of replay value with branching story paths kept it interesting. Onimusha 3 IMHO was the point where the Onimusha gameplay had outworn its welcome and became stale and was still basically the same gameplay system from 3-4 years ago.

Onimusha 4 NEEDS to be a major RE4 style change to the series. Oni3 tanked in sales and a similar looking game with new characters is only going to sell worse. The main thing they need to tune up IMHO is the fighting engine, make it more robust with plenty of moves like NG or DMC3. One of Oni3's main problems was that it came out the same week as NG and besides the Issen you had like 5 attacks in Oni3 vs. 30-50 in NG so Oni3 just felt really shallow and boring while fighting. The RE style "find the keys" part is fine, just make a deep rewarding action engine and full 3d camera control.

i actually picked up Oni3 a couple of weeks ago for $15. Not bad. Never played part 2, and haven't played 1 since it came out, so maybe the series is more fresh for me. The story/characters are just cheesy as fuck though. Samonuske riding in the backseat of a 4 door sedan has to be one of the most unintenionally hilarious scenes in videogame history. Like someone else mentioned, take the series back to ancient, feudal japan and keep in there.

I don't think they are worried. It's quite obvious in terms of sales Onimusha [4] or whatever this is called will sell over 500,000 units in a month in Japan. Getting those numbers, I don't think they really care all that much on what the US figures are.

I personally don't want Onimusha 4 to be a DMC3 copy cat. DMC3 is out, it kicks ass (that is if you're not scared of game over screens) and to have Onimusha 4 simply be made to one-up DMC3 in the action department would be a waste. Make a DMC4 in that case. Plus, having 90+combos or whatnot like there is in DMC3 wouldn't really fit in the Onimusha universe. It's more closer to its RE roots than DMC is.

And people laughed at me @ the old GAF when I told them that Capcom was going to milk Onimusha like their other franchises...

Just a trilogy my arse.

So it really is Onimusha? :lol

I remember a couple of users insisting just this past couple of days that the countdown isn't referring to Onimusha.

If it like the first one I would be very pleased...However if they return to the SciFi shit...FUCK THEM.

Onimusha 1 is one of the nicest games ever.

Uh, I don't know if you were playing the same game but the free movement was fine and dodging was easy to me in Onimusha 3.

The trilogy concluded the Nobunaga story.

I didn't like the colors used in Onimusha 3, too colorful.
Make it more like MGS3 or RE4.
Adjustable camera? I hope the polygons won't suffer too much.

According to Inafune, Oni 3 was suppose to end that part of the trilogy so it could very well be drastically different from the previous 3.

I'm actually playing through Onimusha 3 right now, and it's really enjoyable just like Onimusha 2. Although at one point I was pretty frustrated with how the game is designed...I don't think this is really a spoiler (on the opposite, I think it would be beneficial for people to know)...

about two hours in, I try to enter a door with Samanosuke, but I couldn't get in and instead got a semi-cryptic message. So I checked with gamefaqs and realized you had to level up your weapon in order to get through. The crappy thing was, I had just recently levelled up my armor, so I had to run back and fight enemies for like 40 mins before I could get through that door. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's pretty awkward game design. Other than that, it's a fun action game with great presentation.

Samanosuke from the past is killed by Nobunaga in the final battle.
Jacques is sent back home thanks to future Samanosuke.
Samanosuke goes back to the past, kills Nobunaga, absorbs him in the gauntlet.
Back home, Nobunaga's nephew or whoever mortally wounds Jacques' son Henri.
Jacques whips his ass. Literally. Whip whip!
Sad pussy moment, but the gauntlet heals Henri. Yadda yadda.
Samanosuke hides the gauntlet, and goes off on more adventures with his new stupid fairy friend.

The end.

Yeah I was not a big fan of that method of progression, especially as it meant that they then couldn't let you carry over any upgrades into a new game+, like in DMC3. It should be the law with action games that feature rpg-lite systems, that they can get carried over.

Overall, I say it's hard to pick my favourite Onimusha. They were all great but each one had distinct advantages over the other I felt. Onimusha1 sustained the Japanese feudal setting throughout the game, no slightly let-down industrial bits like Onimusha2. Onimusha3, I didn't mind all of the French bits, the Eiffel tower sucked, and I wish developers would get over this obsession with sewers, but Notre Dame and the monastery were cool. Onimusha 2's buddy/gift/branching path system was excellent, added a nice new level to the gain and really upped the replay value, I was sorry to see it go. However I thought the bits where you were free to switch characters in O3 were very well implemented, it's just a shame that the whole game couldn't have been like that.

So if Onimusha 4 does nothing else new, if it could just be the ultimate almagalmation of O1's sustained Japanese feudal setting, with O2's buddy/gift/branching plot system and on top of that have O3's character switching, dual puzzle solving going throughout it, I'll be extremely happy.

Not that we can judge the graphical quality from these scans, but I think it looks cool (blonde guy aside)

that looks fantastic!

and also, it seems, that:

is true!

Can you PLEASE just post the thumbnails and link to the article instead? It's making the host site really slow and the entire thread slows down as a result. Not to mention the scans are huge.
