New Onimusha game coming

Yay! Now that I actually checked out the images, looks pretty cool. The entire game is free-camera too which means the player can adjust the camera manually. Awesome graphics and action looks good. I guess I was wrong and C- Warrior was right! Me owned total! :lol

I got the first one when it was first released, but never bothered with the next two. Considering the fact they are both dead cheap now, I really should pick them up, as I remember enjoying the first.

Oh, and those screens look pretty cool

God, Onimusha 3 was so much fun. I played through it about 4 or 5 times and the extras kicked ass, too! Definitely a top-notch, but underrated game and much better than 1 or 2.

Sure, the storyline with Nobunaga ended with 3, which completes the original trilogy, but the ending does set up for another game, with Hideyoshi showing up at the end of the credits.

regarding scans:

KEIJI!!!KEIJI!!!KEIJI!!!

:)

looks brilliant. Seeing how I've played 1---->3... don't see how I can afford to miss this. I hope they subdue the colour. Looks like they dumped the actor face thing from the series. Is the lead anyone famous?

is Keiji saying you'd get to play it at E3?

Japanese GAFFERS: in the scans/article, is it normal for the katakana's to be displayed about the kanjis?

Does anyone know what the Kanji in front of Onimusha says?

EDIT: Nevermind, it's Shin Onimusha. Kinda like Shin Sangoku Musou. :lol

Actually the 'shin' in Shin Onimusha is a different Kanji than the one in Shin Sangoku Musou. The one in Onimusha means 'new' (atarashii), while the one in Sangoku Musou means 'true' (makoto).

I have to say it's kind of strange that a game that's set in feudal Japan has a subtitle that's in English.

Yeah, I noticed that they weren't the same Kanji after a few minutes.

Yeah, the subtitle really bugs me. It just doesn't sound natural when pronounced in either English or Japanese.

I like how they couldn't splurge money and using a real actors license this time after Oni3 bombed in the US and sold poorly compared to the others in Japan. Somehow I don't expect an opening CG like the one from Oni3 :P

Still judging from the early screens it looks pretty much the same visually. Need to hear more about gameplay changes.

I like how the Onimusha games are loosely based on historical figures, but the storylines are pretty ridiculous. Well, Hideyoshi was brutal in his final years, so I guess it kinda makes sense, but the guy fell ill and died in 1598 anyway. And who's the hero in this one?

Personally, I thought these screens look very generic. Maybe they look better in scans because of high contrast, but in print they do nothing for me. Even the main character is "just another generic hero". The emphasis this time seems to be on number of enemies, rather than beautiful architecture, so it will probably end up like Chaos Legion, Sengoku Basara, Shin Sangoku Musou, etc etc.

Also, sorry CVXFREAK, the subtitle was in English after all. The "Shin" (new) suggests to me that they may also release this on a next-gen machine alongside the PS2 release. It's currently only 20% complete, so I don't expect it until next year, maybe Spring. So a possible X360 release on the cards?

That's a pretty big stretch in logic from 1 kanji though ^^; The shin is just because this is a new series NOT Onimusha4. Onimusha 1-3 was a trilogy about Nobunaga and Samanosuke. It ended. This is the 'new' series, thus 'shin'.

Yeah, if you assume it's a series rather than a one-off, isn't it fair to say they will transition to next-gen somehow? :P

Genma Dawn of Dreams?

Maybe with the sequel. I dunno this looks too much like 'just re-using Oni3 engine with some new colors' to give any impression at all it will be ported.

Still I don't know what they're thinking. After what happened with Oni3 in Japan (mass ditching of copies, used game market flooded, prices dropping rapidly [kinda like what's going on with OYW now]) I think no matter what they call it, this series has no chance of not bombing in Japan. Especially with no pretty TV star lead, this has no chance of selling in Japan or worldwide.

Capcom is out of touch. It's the same with Namco, Sega and tons of other Japanese companies. They are not keeping track of the market and just focusing on doing what the suits want.

From Gamespot:

Screenshots of Dawn of Dreams show that the game's camera angles have broken with the traditions of previous Onimusha installments. Instead of the semifixed screens of Onimusha 3, this new game features a third-person perspective with the view hovering closely behind the character's shoulder. The Famitsu article hints that players may be able to control the camera for the first time in an Onimusha game.

Does that mean that it'll be kinda like RE4? Whooot!

Was this link already posted?

Gamespot article on Onimusha 4

It's funny now how people trashed the person who posted the first link to the countdown and tree web page for assuming it was related to Onimusha.

That person would be me >_< !!!!!!

Why the hate GAF, why the hate?

Maybe it's because I'm not obsessed with God of War? Just kidding...*runs*

Hey I haven't played God of War either! I blame my unjust trashing of the C- Warrior on my EVIL avatar! The Gizmondo game made me do it! I swear! :lol

Anyway I can't wait for the site to open, with the promise of the game being more open for player freedom and the old gameplay of key-lock-door completely gone and a free-camera system, this could be pretty awesome. :D

Your Breath of Fire DQ avatar was pretty cool, shouldn't have changed it >_<

Damn, BOF DQ was an awesome game.

I always kind of hoped it was a new BOF game, as opposed to an Onimusha title.
