New Ricky Gervis Netflix special. Reaction on social media predictable.

Just see babies on both sides getting triggered. The internet in a nutshell.

And then then they go to their hidey hole safe place site and accuse the others of being mad.

Tell me you are offended without telling me you are offended. ;)

I guess W Wvrs also joins the party of offended people. :messenger_winking_tongue:

Watched it last night. It was okay. Probably his worst special that I've seen, but was still entertaining. Hope Netflix pays him for more, but I think he needs to bring his A-game next time. His golden globe stuff was far better.

This one seemed heavily geared towards the British audience though, which is fine. But you can tell he slightly alters his vocabulary and the things he decides to reference in jokes when in front of Americans. A few words and references I didn't quite get.

I just watched the whole thing and also share the sentiment that it was entertaining, but it was mostly stuff we've seen before before especially with his religion and AIDS routines.

In the UK, fanny is a vulgar word for vagina.

Boyle went down the woke shitter, sadly.

Thats two minutes and twenty seconds of time that could have been used better. Like vomiting, or shitting in my hands and clapping.

In the scale of hitlerism, this is a 10/12 hitlers
What about Baby hitlers? So adorable :p

I don't watch much comedy so this routine was all new to me. His delivery was a bit off and he couldnt get through the lesbian joke without laughing but I still thought it was pretty good. Only thing that seemed really dated was the HIV stuff. The pedo therapy bit was hilarious.

Finished watching it yesterday.
And yeah overall pretty underwhelming IMO. Too many recycled topics and jokes. Like the whole baby Hitler bit... he has been recycling that for at least 4 years.
Just felt like Netflix offered him money and he hastily put this together with his existing material.

I definitely think he hit the nail on the head with the identity politics argument though. Can't find the clip on youtube but at one point he said something like:
"I talk about AIDS, famine, cancer, pedophilia, the holocaust, rape ... but no, the one thing you can't joke about is identity politics and trans people".
And the reactions to his special are absolutely proving him right

I think Ricky is so busy these days with other projects, while he does work on material, he doesn't spend hours upon hours of writing material like some other comedians, he basically goes out there and just riffs for an hour. I think some comedians are funniest when they just riff. Tim Dillon is one of them.

Holy shit this is good.

5% black people
5% asian
5% lgbtq whatever
However he's a white rich multi militionaire, there is only 1% of them. Does he mind nope, he just goes on with it, he fought for the rights to never take a seat in the bus.

His jokes are so good.

I don't understand how some people simply don't grasp the premise of comedy. When you make fun of someone or someones, it's not "going after them." That isn't the mentality behind a joke. "I hate these people, I want to trash them" doesn't even factor in. You find certain discourse or logic you find funny or absurd, and frame it in a humorous way you think will make people laugh.

But since society today is so caught up in this victimhood mentality, people can't get their minds out of that space where everything comes from a standpoint of being a victim. And for the record, there are no such things as protected groups. They don't exist. Equality and protected groups can't co-exist. As Ricky says in the special, he believes in equality, it's why he included them. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm surprised people are still allowed to make fun of others in comedy. I give it another two years until everyone is forced to make inoffensive jokes that are not funny and comedy dies.

Watched half way so far, a couple of sensible chuckles but it's pretty low effort Gervais overall tbh. Couldn't have told it was a new show.

The melt downs and reeeees are more entertaining than the actual gig. The stuff he says is incredibly benign, the fact that people somehow twist it into "literal genocide" is standup comedy worthy.

I'm pretty sure Ricky knew this was a low effort one so he added the trans jokes so that woketards can do free advertising for him. He's one of the few people who has mastered the art of playing these morons like a fiddle.

I need to go back and watch some Dennis Miller. Do I know enough to understand it better or was he always just talking shit with big words?

A lot of his material feels…predictable in a way. I don't usually laugh at his stuff unless he gets super dark. Still, it's good to see him pushing buttons as always

I'm over this form of comedy. Gervais and Chappelle should go write shows or movies and leave the standup to people who aren't old farts overintellectualizing everything.

just watched it. a bit funny. only observation i had was, was there anyone in the audience? it looked empty and it seemed they were using a laugh track.

The funniest thing about the trans bit is that he didn't make a single joke, it was just straight serious sentences from trans rights activists: "It's HER penis, you bigot!!".

I understood everything he said.

Is he seriously still doing atheist bits? Fuck me. I'm an atheist and I'm so bored of hearing it.

We get it, Ricky. You've been doing the same joke for what feels like decades. There was one in After Life that seriously implied "well who made god then?!" was some sort of galaxy brain argument he'd written recently.

I appreciate what Ricky Gervais has done throughout his career, he's a smart guy and at times can even he funny, but I find it so hard to watch anything he does that isn't scripted. He's the epitome of cringe lord atheist, he goes so far down that rabbit hole that at times he comes off just as fervently "religious" as the people he likes to condescendingly mock. He falls under the same umbrella as annoying vegans, or hardcore bicyclists.

The undeserved sense of self superiority is offputting.

Thought he over hyped it a bit much and it was a bit tame, but as someone that watches comedy with a straight face...I actually laughed at some of them jokes.
7/10
Worth a Watch 👍
