New Ridge Racer DS gameplay vids and dev interview

I don't know but I played nearly all the N64 racers and...RR64 was the worst. And the worst wasn't graphics/sound/gameplay...it was the fucking detection collision that made you bump with walls even being 10 meters away from them.
Of course NST keep that in favour to the gameplay...Just that they have made the game more difficult to control so you keep bumping from left to right.

Ridge Racer DS ? Nah... Pro Pinball DS.

A new Ridge Racer DS 'Hands on' is at IGN

In the most current revision of Ridge Racer DS, the graphics and sounds appeared nearly identical to the version we played in early October. But the touch-sensitive controls definitely received a serious tweaking since last we played. The version now turns the wheel in relation to where the screen is being touched, which was much better than the last version, which made the car move like mouse controls with players required to drag their stylus on the screen to turn the wheel left and right until it stops.

how anyone can be judging anything from those videos is beyond me.. they're compressed to all hell, pixelly and stutter like mad.

Clearly most of the stuff people are complaining about in this thread is related to the shite quality of the video compression. I'd wait until you see it yourself or in a better quality video before making a judgement. seriously.

I just want to jump in and agree with everyone who is saying that this is not the type of game that benefits from being on the DS.

Its the software that takes advantage of all the opportunities to do something unique that I want it for. I want games that simply meld in with the device (Advance Wars, Wario Ware) or invent new concepts (yoshi, pac-pix/pac roll) not "port game - add touch and map" games.

I can at least give them some credit for trying something new.

They are? It looks just like RR64 to me. Or are you talking about the asstastic stylus control option?

Thats good to hear. If you select dpad, is the second screen used to something more usefull than showing the steering wheel?

I just thought of one they could throw in (hopefull someone at NST is smarter than me)

How about a rear view mirror (full screen) or even touch the screen for multiple viewpoints. Not that hard, I'd imagine.

Ouch!

Eh...I don't know if Nintendo should let Namco release this one...

NST is developing it. Basically Digipen dropouts, except for the Metroid team, of whom all memers are celestial gods.

I don't really get NST. Wave Race: BS has great graphics...but then there's this thing over here. They aren't Digipen dropouts, they are Digipen graduates. :P
