looks great!

however, i still think the boarders detract from the overall impressiveness of the game, certainly on a technical level, as they did on the gc.

But aren't the borders supposed to be gone, though...with a true widescreen mode?

Man, what? Fuck it, the GC version's getting traded in. I hear the PS2 version comes with free Japanese talismans to ward off Mikami's floating head.

I believe the PS2 version actually supports true 16:9, however...

This DOES look worse than the GC version, especially the villagers. You have to be blind to ignore the difference. Enviroments are Ok though.

Looks good!

And the El Gigante looks good too:

Maybe it's a bit inferior on the technical side compared to the GC version, but the overall impression isn't affected by that IMHO.

Hmmm, maybe I'll get the PS2 version even though I've played through the GC version thrice.

BTW, where are the GC - PS2 comparison pics? :D

the gamecube version is far from perfect with all that flickering and jaggies. the ps2 versions does a good job in the visuals departement. the differences are minimal imo and could be a lot worser (considering that resident evil 4 was a exclusive game).

Looks pretty damn good.

El Gigante or whatever his name is looks worse than the GC version though. The GC screen had this really amazing lighting and shading and everything.

Do you really think most people will notice any of those differences when playing on their own TVs? VERY doubtful...

For a game often touted as the best looking title this gen, I'd say you need to give the PS2 a little more credit. The GC is a more powerful machine, afterall...

El Gigante is clearly less detailed, though.

I don't get it...did anyone actually claim that the PS2 version looks better? :P

There's a difference in detail, but not overwhelmingly so.

Edit - changed the GC shot to another, more comparable screen.

Nowhere near enough difference to propel a PS2 owner to buy a Gamecube just to play RE4.

Looks way better than I expected.

it does look quite a bit worse than the GC version.. though it looks ok anyway

it still is a great game.. and if you havent played the GC version the gfx are good enough

I've really only been waiting to see PS2 pics with lots of characters on screen (aside from cut scenes). I guess that's that, barring reports of slowdown.

No, but that it looks on par with the GC version.
The thing is, most people that will play this game will be unable to see a difference. The E3 trailer for the PS2 version looks shockingly close in motion. I can see the differences, but I don't think a lot of other folks will be able to.

I should do very well.

I don't plan on buying it, of course, but I hope it garners this amazing game even more attention. It deserves sales...

El Gigante looks pretty blocky though. I'm surprised by everyone who's so impressed by these shots though. What exactly were you expecting?

and this after your non-stop campaign against the graphics in the GCN version...

:lol

So that's the new lazer gun, huh?

That does look pretty sweet.

But I don't think I would buy the same game twice.

Wha?

Edit: 27 post, 28 views. Wow!
It happens sometimes....don't worry...the server will eventually correct itself and those 28 views will be something like 100+ (edit: 600+ actually :lol)

looks suprisingly close to the GC version...amazing as I thought RE4 was one of the best looking games this gen. Just goes to show how good art direction >>>> technical achievements I guess (looking at you, next gen =\)

Looks great, but i do feel RE4 is losing its graphical edge (both versions). I used to be amazed by it, i even had thoughts about it being the best looking game created, but not now, its not as impressive as it used to imo. Especially in 480p

But hats off to Cpacom, they almost got it to look as good as the GC version, now just imagine of they ported to Xbox, id love to see what they can pull of with the hardware.

Not only that, I bet that the vast majority of the people buying this on the PS2 have never even played the GC version, so even if the PS2 version doesn't look quite as good as the Cube one, as long as it looks good on its own, then that's perfectly fine. So what if there's a few less polys here and there, and a few textures look slightly different, most people aren't going to be playing the two games side-by-side looking for differences. Most people are going to be experiencing this game for the first time and if it looks good and runs well, then that's all that really should matter.

I'd actually like to see him lit with something like a torch or a lighting. In GC screens he does seem lit with something to a greater degree than in PS2 screens, which could also be a deficiency of the port. He is also closer to a camera on GC screen which lets you see more detail on him (especially if they use some kind of LOD system on him)

When you see all the next gen footage, it's not a surprise. Also, first time you see anything, you are more awed than on repeated viewings, where you start to see inconsistencies and faults a lot more.

Lighting in the GC version alone puts it above the PS2 pic...but that IS a different area so who know =\
I don't think that's really lighting, that's just stronger contrast/gamma on his capturing device than it is on the other one. You can see all the same kind of highlights on PS2 screens, they are just more muted due to lower contrast/gamma.

The 2nd pic looks much better to me (even as a quick capture)...There isn't missing very much, though... but theres something in the GC version which makes me feel it looks better.
Of Course we have to wait for the running game. That are only screenshots.

I'm a bit disappointed by the new gun. It certainly looks cool, but I don't think it fits in a RE game. It looks more like a gun from Unreal or Quake. Nevertheless, if the framerate is good Capcom has done a really solid port.

Capcom = best developer this gen.

btw talk about difference from the first screens capcom released :lol

we should see some gameplay vids next week.

Heh I was saying in the past that the GC version didnt really do anything significant that the PS2 would struggle with and here is the result...

Hmmm. There's something definitely definitive about the definition of the PS2 version. It certainly defines for me what the definitive version is.
