Looks curious, at least. I wish more companies would experiment with alternate controller designs.
 
It would actually probably feel quite similar to an analog stick. If you think about the dip as being the tap peice of the analog stick, you'll realise it moves in quite a similar way. The only large difference will be when you hit the edges, and it will "bulge" in the middle when you move it (since the highest point will no longer be where your thumb is).

I'd be quite interested to try that thing.
 
I had a crappy PC pad with a similar analogue "thing" to that, a few years ago (well, about 98/99ish, iirc). Thrustmaster Rage 3D, iirc (ah yes, random photo of the thing <3 google images). Worked pretty well, from what i can recall, although i didn't have much to compare it to at the time (didn't have a playstation or an n64 back then).
