New World Hype

Wanted to see how much thirst is out there for New World. I've been itching to dive into an MMO for a while now, but this presents a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor (for better/worse). Anyway, let me know your thoughts if you've played the beta (I did not) and whether you're a day one. I'm pretty bummed re: no controller support given how well FFXIV implemented controller support, but we'll see how it goes in the future.

Wasnt this game getting constantly shat on and just in general wasn't received well with a ton of delays.

Thing that put me off the most was the removal of WPvP, I saw you can still attack castles etc owned by other "clans" or something.

Apparently it's in much better shape now vs when it first released in beta. I'd say the general consensus is positive in the community.

i am predicting record Steam numbers tomorrow, will this last for months, nah, but its going to scratch an itch for a week or two.

yeah it was. but it looks like they actually put the delays to good use and doubled down on improving the game. i've only seen positive previews since the last few rounds of beta this summer.

It is an MMO with some unique ideas and a fantastic art direction concept, but I don't think it will have the legs to say ongoing for long (or compete with the likes of FFXIV). Really depends on how much content they have and what their release plan is like for future updates.

I'm super hyped. From what I played of the beta I will sink hundreds of hours into this game. Playing solo.
I'm pretty pumped as a solo player as well. I have my reservations, but I really want to get in on an mmo from the ground floor. Hopefully the servers hold up, as we know how these things go historically. Bu

As an MMO veteran, I am just going to warn you right now: Do *not* take off work for the launch. Wait 4-7 days to take time off to play. Let the servers settle and upgrades, if needed, be made.

Indeed, let's see how this amazon money plays out, if they can't do cloud well....well then hell no one can :)

When they first had their closed alpha it was basically a survival PvP type game, not really a traditional MMO.

People complained and they went back to the table and basically made it into a traditional MMORPG like WoW, FFXIV, ESO.

Always interested in jumping into a new MMO, but New World looks so generic that I feel pretty lukewarm on whether to get in at launch or not.

I played the beta, while going through Stormblood FFXIV, and New World is pretty barebones in comparison with the narrative department with quests requesting the typical kill 10 of these or deliver 5 of these that are super common. Thinking long term, the faction PvP and territory control will give it legs but Warhammer Online did just that and look where that ended.

Oh and OP, there are guides out there to map a controller to work with New World though official controller support won't be there at launch.

I would have been interested if it was a spawling mmo set in the pre-colonial US. that woulda been cool.

EDIT: it's "overwhelmingly positive" after 780-ish reviews.. so that's the production staff accounted for

Yeah seeing there already being reviews for this and Lost Ark when they have been mostly unplayable is hilarious.

From what I remember the Beta's that they ran were rather popular. I was in both and really loved what I played. I plan to be up early tomorrow to give it a shot...but a new MMO on launch day usually means the servers will be slammed and/or dead soon after launch....but I happen to be off and unless a friend calls me to go do something my plan is to play a bit of this.

I bought on a whim just because of the hype and the need for an MMO now that I'm bored of WoW Classic. The territories is what sold me since I mostly PvP in MMO's.

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering if there were any configs people used that were viable. I didn't play the beta, so I didn't explore the options out there.

New World is an MMORPG from Amazon Games releasing exclusively on PC on September 28, 2021.Shipwrecked on the island of Aeternum, it is up to the player to uncover secrets, harvest Azoth and keep control of the island from falling into the wrong hands.

It's a lot better now. Not sure what this means. The entire game is WPVP.

Yeah, no problem. Some of the ones I looked at used Steam controller configuration that is baked into Steam. Some of the ones people made seemed pretty well thought out.

Game has been great so far. I was in the beta's and the final game runs a lot better for me. I am running at 4k/Very High and am pretty much locked at 60fps. In the beta's I had to have the dynamic rez. scaler turned on to help...but now I don't need it. Been in some very populated areas and seems fine still.

On a other related note, some servers are being hammered. El Dorado which is the most popular West Coast server has about a 22k Que alone! Fucking nuts!

I haven't bought or tried the game, but it showed up in my steam list today. It seems to have steam family sharing enabled, surprisingly.

If you're one of the thousands of new explorers jumping into Amazon Games' Aeternum, you might find all there is to do in its early hours a little overwhelming. To that end, we've put together a list of 20 tips and tricks we wish we'd know when we started exploring New World.

The Atmosphere in this game is UNREAL! Especially once you get to the higher levels.

In this New World beginner's guide, we give tips for fast leveling, making the most of gear in and out of combat, as well as how to make the most of trade skills.

In this video, DeVante talks about all the important things a beginner should know about New World before they start playing. He breaks down ways to maximize XP gain in order to level up faster as well as how to cut down on travel time in games. Later in the video, DeVante details New World's combat, weapons, damage types and armor sets as well as discussing tips for trade skills like gathering and crafting.

New World released for PC on September 28, 2021 and is now available via Amazon or Steam.

The game is beautiful however two things bother me:

- No real matchmaking and no sharing of quests
- WHY are we only limited to THREE (!) abilities? I mean compare that to WoW or City of Heroes where you can have double digit abilities..

sometimes less is better. Im actually glad we have 6 abilities total with 2 weapons. Im tired of facerolling my keyboard to push 20 buttons

It's a casual MMO.

The loop is gathering, crafting and a bit of combat here and there.

Agreed 100%. In this case, at least for me, less is more. It's an interesting spin on the genre, similar to how I preferred MXM to League of Legends by billions of miles! You had two characters, two separate lifepools, and if you didn't switch off in time, both characters are dead, regardless if the second character was at full health. Plus the controls were WASD instead of the odd point and click that LoL has.

Paragon was the best MOBA of all time though.

But yeah, New World so far is the tits. Hopefully the honeymoon phase doesn't become at let down with time. I'm running Life Staff with Ice Gauntlet, and it's fun

Game looks absolutely stunning and is super addictive.

I haven't even bothered with the pvp, just solo wandering around, questing, gathering, crafting. It's really relaxing. Great for solo players IMO.

The action/souls like combat in this game alone makes it better than tab targetting MMOs.

People hated LFG in WoW.
This is my recollection as well. It took away another avenue for making friends / gaining a reputation on a given server. Spamming General certainly had some downsides, but one of the upsides were A) the probability of a troll and/or toxic player diminished B) good route for meeting new people on your server. Once cross realm LFG was thing and because true endgame was limited to your realm (raids), no one gave a shit to get to know each other, and would bail without second thought because getting another group was a simple button click.

Speaking of the combat and skill system, the mechanics they have in place lend themselves well with a controller so it is weird they didn't have support for controllers ready for launch.

Less is better and combat is satisfying. Tab targeting is so boring in comparison. Do you feel like a Samurai in Ff14 spamming millions of keys for rotation or an actual sharpshooter in New World with just a trusty musket
