Looks like another desperate attempt to make a shiny new successful mmo. Yet again, looks and plays horrendously.

And yet look at how many people bought it <_<.
Just because they bought it.. doesn't mean they like it. I know plenty of people who bought it and regretted it 2 days later. And yet look at how many people bought it <_<.

You don't have to pull Wow in its prime numbers to be a massive success. Not sure about Elder Scrolls but Aion and GW2 made (and still making) a ton of money for their devs.Yes, and many people bought Aion, Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls, etc. How many of those are "massive successes"? None of them. All of them dropped hard after that first month.
Now excuse me while I go back to grinding bows.
It's weird how many people seem desperate for this game to fail.
It's fun. I run around and bash things with a hammer. Not everything has to be a sweaty hypercompetitive esport title. There's room for a non-sub based MMO that I can dip in and out of. I'm never paying Blizzard or Square's ridiculous sub fees again, so this suits me fine. Looks great, too.
Desperate for it to fail? No, those critical (like me), just know the reality of how MMOs work.
More folks here seem desperate for this game to be a massive success that will beat all the odds. It won't. Its a good game, but there is no chance that it will be a massive success. It will lose a large amount of players by the end of the month, the question comes if the devs/amazon will continue pushing forward or pivot with a skeleton crew like so many previous MMOs have.
It is already a massive success by any metric.
You clearly don't know how MMOs work. Launches mean little to nothing. What matters is longevity. These are titles meant to be played for months upon months, if not years. If it doesn't have that longevity, people will leave and it will be considered a flop.
Usually the way to counter this is a good deal of content and balancing patches released at regular intervals. The question is, will Amazon/the dev team be able to do this or will amazon see that initial drop off and get scared like so many before them?
I was following this game from the open beta this year a bit and the amount of changes AGS pushes in day after day was staggering. People datamined it somehow the internal patches that got released just after beta ended with feedback. 3-5 years into the making and seems AGS-devs also works like how Amazon in general works.Usually the way to counter this is a good deal of content and balancing patches released at regular intervals. Yeah, but - no offense - who cares what you think?Desperate for it to fail? No, those critical (like me), just know the reality of how MMOs work.

They sold a shitload of copies and are on top of the steam charts player count. First game out of a new studio. It's a huge success.

but ofcourse as you said, let us wait till the first content drop. We all will see the playerbase practically intact till then.
Yeah, but - no offense - who cares what you think?
The game's successful right now. People are enjoying it right now. Is it going to be WoW, and will still be running two decades on? No. No it will not. But, it's fun at the moment, people are enjoying it, and what's the point in showing up in these threads to put on your best comic book guy voice and yell BUT ACKSHUALLY LOL ALL MMOS THAT ARENT WOW DIE IMMEDIATELY SO YEAH WAKE UP SHEEPLE.
Is it really that big a deal to want to be able to just enjoy something for once without people like you showing up? I know you're doing your Guy With Opinions On The Internet thing, but holy shit, take a day off or something.
I ended up picking it up. I figured over the years I will get my $40 worth if nothing else as a crafting sim. I played a few hours yesterday and it was pretty much what I expected. The problem I am having is seeing that it is still killing GPUs. Makes me nervous to launch it.
Wait what? I thought that was purely an EVGA issue. I would recommend capping your frame rate in game and also by overriding it through Nvidia control panel or whatever AMD equivalent is.
Are there any metrics on this (i.e return rates, etc? I've bought zotac and gigabyte and have never had issues after 4 cards. I'm genuinely curious if there is a higher rate of failure on these.Yep. But who does make a good 3090? Gigabyte is considered bad too, zotac is trash. Asus?
There's plenty to see and do in Amazon's New World as you level up your character to the max level of 60, but what about once you get there? There's plenty to do once you reach New World's endgame - here's what you can expect one you reach level cap.
Similar to other MMOs, New World doesn't end when you reach max level. New World's endgame focuses on four different activities that are sure to steal your time away. There are other ways to explore the massive isle of Aeternum, of course, but we're just going to focus on the modes that have been specifically designed for high-level players.
How are you guys diggin the PVP? I'm not usually one for it, but I heard it's pretty intense and worth checking out.

Just let people enjoy things. Not every game has to last forever. This cost less than most SP games that have no replay value. Even worst case scenario getting a couple good months out of it would be completely fine by me.Again, we don't know if it *is* a success and a successful MMO is never decided with its launch. Its after its first 6 months to year of service.
I am certainly hopeful. I do enjoy this game as a casual MMO. However, all it takes is one brain dead CEO to say "shut it down" and move a crew to skeleton status, regardless of how promising it seems at first.
MMO success means nothing at launch, never has. Never did I state that MMOs that aren't WoW die. Just that the launch rush drops off after the first month and that is when things matter. What the devs due to keep people playing, what the planned approach for content drops are, what the patch cycle will be, the length of wait between them, etc.
I am enjoying the game myself, but quite frankly ardent fanboys like you are the problem. Crying that someone is thinking critically about a games future. Take your own advice, kiddo. Maybe throw less tantrums too.
No real match making what. The game is beautiful however two things bother me:
- No real matchmaking and no sharing of quests
- WHY are we only limited to THREE (!) abilities? I mean compare that to WoW or City of Heroes where you can have double digit abilities..

New World may pay a price for that down the road with hardcore players looking for more complex and uncommon experiences elsewhere, but that could be largely mitigated depending on how the developers manage it. As it is, I wish the game did a bit more to stand apart in its genre aside from just being a bit more approachable, and your mileage on how that affects your experience will largely vary based on what you like to get out of your MMO RPGs.
I also would have liked to see just a bit more polish at launch, regardless of the normalization of these sorts of games being buggy at launch. That said, New World has a solid combat system, plenty to do, and just enough intrigue to get you into it.
Yeah I know what you mean. MMOs are like restaurants, very few succeed in the long run.I think you are greatly misunderstanding. I want the game to succeed, which is why I am critical and keep harping on what the next 6 months to a year will bring as *that* is what is important for the longevity of the game.
No just the 30 series cards that tried to run it.Is it dead yet?
New World (PC) is Amazon's big attempt at an MMORPG. How is it? Let's talk with some first impressions.
