Here's a video by ChristopherOdd that shows off all the new(totally secret till now. No one saw this coming) class' abilities.

Shacknews did a pretty nice job with their XCOM 2 coverage. It was turned into a Shacknews Select, which is essentially the same as a main feature in a magazine.

Will have to watch this later when I have some time.
XCOM 2 looks pretty good from earlier previews.

When I was a kid I wanted the experience of Xcom and Xcom interceptor combined. Basically anytime you have to send an air fighter to shoot down a craft, the game goes into flight simulator mode and you have to do it yourself. Did they do anything like that it the Xcom reboot a few years back?

Watching the TB vid, which will undoubtedly be the best and the amount of customization is fucking insane.

I'm slightly worried about the 'you must finish the mission within X rounds' thing. the meld mechanic was nice, since it was a bonus. a very nice bonus. a bit more worried about having to finish within the timer. and as far as I've heard it's shorter on harder difficulties, too.
GOTY 2016.
yeah, no doubt.

Is it a counter on every mission? That's much, much worse than meld as I like incentives to do something fast not get pushed into doing it fast by the game without any bonus.

Not really. It would move to a separate game screen where you choose things like defense, stronger weapons, etc. in real time based on how you upgraded your fighters. Battles usually lasted 10-15 seconds at most though.

I guess item drops is xcom2's version of meld. go somewhere you're uncomfortable for a nice bonus.

difficult to say, but it sounds like it is used quite often. worst case there will be a mod to fix it.

Do any of these have Jake Solomon? I have accepted and am at peace with my man crush on him.

Won't be able to watch the stream live but looking forward to it anyways.

Did you watch the last XCOM 2 dev stream with him?

You can't stump the Frump.

I really thought that they were going to drop the ball on this for some reason. Sounds even better than XCOM.

Even if they do in places, even if the balance is skewy, people will fix it. The mods are going to be nuts.

Yeah, I love how they went with really going all out with their mod support this time around.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get some wonderful mods.

XCOM2 is directly addressing virtually all of my issues with the reboot. Procedural map generation, heavier on the simulation side (the aliens now have a goal in the strategic mode), no more enemies materializing out of thin air, etc. They're even mixing up the plot/theme in an interesting way. And first-class mod support on top of everything else? Crazy.

Can't wait.

Also improved destruction with propagating fire. Hhhnnnnnnggggg.

Also, the new slums environments they're showing off on the official site look awesome:

"Improved destruction" is actually one of the few things I'm worried about. One of my favorite adjustments in Long War is the more sensible durability of the environment. In vanilla, it's far too easy for you to get exposed and murdered because one wayward plasma pistol shot took out your cover.

If I start losing soldiers left and right because buildings just dissolve left and right like sugar in rain, it's gonna be annoying.

Oh man the visuals are looking way improved.

Design process for the game by Firaxis (In a really good way):
1. Take XCOM:EW
2. Listen to the community
3. Make appropriate changes
4. Call it XCOM 2

The improved destruction is one of the things I want the most. My favorite part of Beaglerush's videos was when he destroyed the ceiling of a building with a granade to hack a computer.

I missed out on Enemy Unknown at launch, and when I finally got around to playing it over a year later, it turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Won't make that same mistake with XCOM 2. Everything I hear sounds increasingly amazing.

I assume optimizations are done towards the very end? Because Total Biscuit mentioned getting dips below 60fps on his Titan X at 1080p.

Whelp.

Hope they optimize it.

If I can run this well on my Surface Book, I will wait until I pick that up.

If not, I plan on playing on my 4K comfy couch setup.

Either way, that performance does not bode well.

This build was given to the press in December, I think. Which means it probably dates to earlier than that. I would say there is a good chance optimization and bug-fixing will continue right up until a week or two before release. And there will probably be a day-one patch, too.

I still have to pre-order this. Do you get anything extra for pre-ordering? Not a fan of the practice but for this game I can make an exception.
