I doubt that. It may be years in the making, but there's gonna be a WoW 2.cybercrash said:I believe Blizzard once made a statement saying that they'll never develop a sequel to WoW, they'll just keep on patching and building on WoW.
Ultra Magnanimous said:What about ncsoft? Don't forget them. They have a very solid lineage (forgive the pun) of online titles, with the recently well received Guild Wars and forthcoming games Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault. Maybe they've got something major in the waiting?

It may be even worse than EQ2 but millions who never played a MMORPG before will worship it.
D&D:O looks hella cool by the way.
SatelliteOfLove said:Heck, I've seen what WoW did for MMO's. If D&D is as accesable as it's been described, (surprising, considering the pedigree), and be on a console, it could be on of those to pull it off.
Interesting concept.ManaByte said:Well, the only problem I see with D&D Online is that the powergaming kiddies who have to have a big number next to their character name to feel special will probably hate the game since it uses D&D 3.5 rules and the level cap will be level 20 with roughly the same exp curve the pen&paper game has. Also you don't get any exp from killing mobs, only by doing quests.

brocke said:No it will be the next Final Fantasy Online.
They will most likely release it late in the PS3/X360/Rev lifetime.
It will be the one mmorpg to rule them all. Much like FFTSW-->>FF:AC
Square learned from their mistakes and will most likely create an incredible new mmorpg with an actual "story". That's something most mmorpgs are missing these days. Sure give the open ended story to the same people that come up with their D&D adventures :lol
Leave the story to the professionals, and let the players immerse themselves in that store as part of a "community". That's what mmorpgs should be about. And hopefully Square will nail it on the head with their next Final Fantasy Online.

Skavens, Big'uns, Ratogres...
On the other hand I couldn't care less about World of Warhammer 40K ;p

FFXI actually has a fantastic storyline. I guess it's difficult for most casuals to see it since you need a level 75 character to see two of the major arcs and a load of smaller arcs, but the story it has is huge and magnificent, and that's coming from someone who loves the offline Final Fantasies.Pimpbaa said:Putting a Final Fantasy story in a MMORPG would be a terrible terrible idea. Open ended story that leaves something to your imagination is much better than some derivative FF story crammed down your throat.
Too fucking slow. I mean sure it sounds great that you can have a battle with 8 people, but when it's 8 people versus a single tofu, it takes fucking forever because all 8 people have to move into position, but usually moving once isn't enough so they move twice. Before you know it you take 5 minutes to kill one fucking low level enemy.DarkScorpion said:Doofus.

etiolate said:Honestly, despite people's supposed protests, if it doesn't have grinding then people won't like it. GW gives a lot more exp for quests rather than just repeatidly killing mobs, but people don't know what to do with something different.
