OH I know. Europe in general but UK was more 360 and less Sony if I remember correctly. They may have lost strength with Xbox one but UK was not always Sony land.

On your other points, people don't join in here because if they actually thought the conference was decent, or have hopes for a great Xbox future, they get bombarded with lol's or non-stop comments about what a fanboy they are, or how delusional they are. Why would you even come here then? This topic is mostly Sony fans (which is ok btw), and then some die-hard fans that love it when Microsoft drops the ball. It's just not worth the time for a lot of people.
If you watch threads outside this, you get extremely harrassed or even get personal attacks when you post about Sony. Lately, it has been controlled better, thanks to the mod team, but it was a total mess outside the speculation thread where you either back your claims or eat crow and it still remains the most informative, technically dense thread around. Most other threads feel pretty much like teenagers in a chat room.

That would be problematic, because lets say you have called Xbox exclusives->console exclusive, but it is playable on PC. On the other hand you have Playstation Exclusive and if you call that just console exclusive too are we expecting it to be playable on PC? Cause Horizon Zero Dawn went that way and it is no longer called PS exclusive... You see calling both systems separate exclusive games as console exclusive in an umbrella term would be wrong since they have different meanings really.

Really? I'm from the U.K too but I always thought U.K was a bit like America where Xbox is popular, well not as popular as PS but not far behind either. Those results are a total blood bath, I'm surprised. PS4's success played a huge role in this I'm guessing.

I'm pretty sure during 360 days it actually sold more than Sony but the rest of Europe was Sony dominated so you are right it wasnt always a Sony dominated land. Strength waned with Xbox one and Sony started taking over mind share again in UK but it wasnt always like that.

I hate to buy into the 8/6 State of Play hype because the guy that started posting about it was dead wrong about the PS5 pricing going up. Then we have that completely bogus thread on 4chan.

Sony has just made a new memory card that goes along with its newly announced, insanely specced A7S III, with strange sizes, unprecedented before: 160GB instead of 128GB, 80GB instead of 64GB:
I'm getting those for 4K@120fps (1080p@240fps) 10-bit filming for slow-motion when I get my hands on A7S III later, but should we expect a custom SSD that goes in parallel in what PS5 has done internally for the expansion bay? And potentially for PC market? They're already excelling in the memory card field, it makes sense to me, at least.

Xbox had a good run in 360 era. But that was when guys were buying 2-3 consoles.People mostly buy PS and Nintendo (because of portability) I can go through my whole phone book. Most of my friends in my phone book have PS4's with 2 games bundled game & FIFA . And they only turn it on for FIFa. Thats to pass time for boxing/UFC/blackjack or live event nights. So many guys have PS4's as furniture.
The only people I know with xbox's are hardcore gamers. Xbox ain't cool with the youth. The survey is close to reality. The 100% pie probably is as follows. 75%PS ,20% Nint , 5%xbox.

Sony needs to get their ReRAM manufacturing off the ground so we can enjoy some of that sweet, sweet 26 GB/s for 128 GB size and 52 GB/s for 256 GB size speed
I figured that tech would make its way into their cameras first since that makret is used to paying an arm and a leg for the latest and greatest. I'm hoping the tech will mature and become cheap enough to find its way into a PS5 Pro/PS6

If Sony were to do an official PS5 SSD to add more storage for the PS5, Sony would probably just partner with Samsung or someone like that who makes M.2 SSDs and put a PlayStation logo on one of them. That way they can say it works with PS5 and casual gamers would know it will work when shopping. Sony already does this with external hard drives for PS4.
They partnered with Seagate. It's just a 2 TB HDD. Any will work, but this one has a PS logo to make it clear it will work with PS4. But we as consumers will still have choice to buy other drives. That's their approach for PS5 too. When Samsung puts out their PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs, I wouldn't be surprised if there's one with a PS5 endorsement that says "official game drive for PS5" or whatever.

Yeah, the bad news is that 160GB will cost around $400 USD, and it's fine for me for that camera when in practice I can make $520 (200 OMR) per 5 minutes when I get a contract in best case scenario. For PS5, well, it pays back with joy, which counts for something.
I predicted the sensor/capabilities of Sony FX9 to come to A7S III, now I hope Sony to make it's own SSD instead of paying more than the price of PS5 itself on a 7GB/s NVMe m.2 PCIe 4.0 and yet have an inferior SSD to the internal one with 1:2 channel per module or 2 priority levels instead of 6 that need extra work from the I/O to compensate for.

Youre absolutely right, I have no doubt Sony will capitalize on the advancements they've made with their own Ssd technology, Sony might end up turning the whole memory game upside down and take the crown from Samsung.

Why simply don't let me move the games to any type of SSD and once I want to play it I just move it back to the console... In that case, I can buy an external SSD and just use it as a backup, it will take me minutes to move the game from the console to the backup SSD...

im pretty sure you would be allowed to do that. if the ssd doesnt pass their cert, you simply wont be able to play games off of it. i highly doubt they would be disallowing USB external HDDs and other SSDs.

I wonder how these are determined? I've had PS+ since it became available on the PS3. I got one of these notices as well but it was a $10.00 credit, not $15.
I've got plenty of those $10-15 before honestly, something used to be once every 3-6 months.

Yeah the 360 dominated in North America and the UK last gen, still Sony's overall global appeal ended up helping them sell more consoles overall in less time but they still lost a ton of money due to stupid decision making. This gen NA and the UK are still Xbox's strongest markets they just aren't beating Sony in them this time and they've made up no ground in other markets either.

Yeah they are probably talking out of their asses a bit here, 120fps at 4K with RT when a more powerful GPU couldn't run Watch Dogs Legion beyond 30fps with RT turned on at max settings.

Cerny already confirmed you can use normal external drives as cold storage for your games in the Road to PS5 event. PS4 games will be playable over USB, but PS5 games will only be playable either from the internal storage or from the drive connected to the expansion bay.

You probably could use an external SSD or HDD to store PS5 games. But not play them. PS5 games have to be installed on the PS5's internal SSD. Or they can be installed on the 2nd internal SSD you can install inside the PS5's expansion bay. You can play PS4 games from an external HDD on the PS5, so that's good.
The main thing is... to add more storage to play game from, the storage has to match the performance of the internal drive. We can use regular USB external hard drives on PS4 because it performs the same as the hard drive inside the PS4.
A developer makes the game around the PS5's internal SSD. So any more internal storage you want to add inside the PS5 has to match the performance of the PS5'S SSD so the game can always run correctly.
It's like how the Nintendo Switch has internal flash storage, and then it also has an expansion slot for an internal microSD card for more storage. Xbox Series X has their proprietary expansion card, while Sony will let you use some regular PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSDs that can be bought from 3rd parties. It's all a way to allow us to expand the amount of storage.
Im gonna use my 2 TB external HDD for my PS4 games, while the 825 GB the PS5 ships with will be enough for PS5 gams for me to start. Then, once PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs come out and drop in price, I'll buy a 512 GB M.2 SSD to add more internal storage. Because only about 700 GB of the 825 GB will be useable, so adding another ~500 GB should be enough. 700+500 gets me to at least 1 TB of useable internal storage for PS5 games, plus 2 TB of external storage for PS4 games.

That's why I mean, that I don't see the big deal in investing 200USD for another place from where I can play my games, transferring games over USB-C should be fast enough to move the games very easily to the console to play them from there.

As far as I know, UK is the only territory outside US where Xbox can go toe to toe with PS, so yes, only 15% is quite concerning.

Yup it's just a cost vs convenience thing. For some, the storage the console ships with is enough, and some might just want a cheap external HDD for storing more games, etc. Thankfully, we will have options.

I think devs are probably having trouble coming to grips with memory management with the Xbox games because on one end they are dealing with the Xbox One memory setup then the Xbox One X memory setup & now the Xbox Series X memory setup . Then on top of that they are expected to do so much more with the Xbox Series X while using 16GB of RAM + SSD . Devs will have to find a balance that's not going to cause any problems across the 3 different memory setups but also let them make improvements on the new console.

Sony is just being smart, they wanna crush the competition. In the camera field, Canon announced R5 and R6, both have 4K and R5 has 8K. Sony waited for a month for all reviews to acknowledge severe overheating issues in air-conditioned rooms, not outdoors! And right before R5/R6 being shipped, it announced A7S III that's extremely reliable with zero overheating issues. Now most of those R5/R6 preorders are being cancelled and shifting to A7S III, especially the ones who demand video performance and low light.
I expect something similar, put as much damage as possible to the competition, that will only create extreme demands for your product.

As a note, one thing I feel is lacking from Sony first party, and from everywhere really, is some top notch western rpg shenanigans. One reason why I have held a slight Xbox bias (though not overly so as I strongly favoured the PS4) was because the 360 got me back into gaming, and some of the games that did that were the likes of Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fallout and Dragon Age (third party I know but all part of the experience). In fact I have really felt the decline of Bioware and Bethesda this gen, even if I still hold some hope Bethesda might have a resurgence. Oh, and the original Xbox excelled here too.
This was one reason why I was leaning towards the Series X, the likes of Obsidian and InXile (who I feel many might be sleeping on here as they haven't revealed their next gen project yet) could well bring that back. We have a lot of quality open world action rpg games these days, Horizon being a chief example of that, and probably one of the best concepts you could possibly conceive for my tastes, as well as being one of my favourite games this gen, but it doesn't scratch that exact itch. Sadly, however, all this potential Xbox goodness is all a long way off, and in the short to mid term, I am probably going to go the way of the unavoidably alluring PS5. So yeah, just a note in regards to my personal wishes; it would certainly be interesting to see Sony tackle their own 'Avowed'.

Yeah, that's 90% guesswork at this point. First, trailer was NOT in engine. Was a very brief CGI, as I recall. Can't see it being in engine as well when the game's at least 2 years out 2022 or later. Sure, MIGHT hit 120fps but not with RT and 4k. Also, this was billed as a "console launch exclusive" not a full exclusive. Not ripping on the game or XSX, just seems this article is a bit sketchy so I'd take it with a rather large grain of salt at this point.
Regardless, will be exciting to have a Stalker game on the consoles! I'll definitely pick this up once it comes to PS5 as well. I've heard a LOT about the Stalker game on PC. People seem to love it. So worth checking out!

Being given an option is all that matters tbh, and tbf to Sony. Having an option in acquiring same speed SSD for the m.2 NVMe expansion slot and then having lower speed external HDD/SSD for large storage of older gen games or even new gen games, it is all there to increase the options given to the consumers, and also to minimize Write and Write Back instances that are limited on the SSD (though the limits put the end of life realistically to a decade or even more).
SSDs tracks total byte written over time bc older hardware begins failing earlier, that's why they had much bigger overprovisions but all newer NAND solutions have much longer durability. Having internal SSD work out every time you want to play a game and thus write it there and not the m.2 NVMe expansion might decrease its life if you manage data obsessively into the internal for every time. As that one is soldered to mainboard it is much more preferable to copy the games to expansion slot ONCE and leave it there, and the fact that you can spend to your budget but get bigger storage expansions that are still at least as fast as the internal is much more preferable, and the thing is it is still all an option, no one is forcing anyone to anything. But as things stand I would DL or copy or put only the most played next gen games in the internal and just leave it there. While managing data between expansion slot and internal would be blazingly fast, it would be prudent to copy less to the internal as much as possible.

In case anyone wonders, 3000 sample pool is a huge one. You can predict nationwide trends pretty accurately (certainty accuracy of less than 5%) with just about 1000 well chosen representatives. Participants of a convention are a very good group to survey, as well: right age group and interests.

As I said, while easy to do so, I would be careful of repercussions of doing it all the time over and over again and spending the Total Written Bytes budget these SSDs have in their nature.

Stalker is a first-person shooter with a lot of slow exploration, ranged combat and stealth. 120 FPS sounds like a ridiculous idea for such game. It's better to put the resources into graphics and RT would be great for the title. If you're familiar with Metro games, Stalker is quite similar but more RPG and much, much more difficult. They're both based on books set in post-apocalyptic Russia which involve a nuclear disaster and aliens. Stalker's source was first but Metro author reimagined some things and made it more popular. I prefer the original, though.

Have we heard ANYTHING else on the XSX split memory config and if/how that will affect total bandwidth? I know there were two main differing opinions as to whether the "slow" memory affected the whole system when being accessed or not, but just curious if that actually got any kind of solid information?
Also...we haven't gotten anything on why exactly the PS5 storage is such an odd, 'off' type of number, right? So many posts in this thread...hard to keep it all straight!
