This Serrano guy is hilarious, like he tweets a new date on a daily basis.

"In today's news, the sun will set and Christmas will be on the 25 of December"

Stay tuned for more ! #insider

Giving the Series S a bit of thought, and asking: "what industry problem does this device solve? Who does it solve a problem for? And does it give publishers more or less of the industry money?"

My answers would be:
1) It doesn't solve a problem for the industry.
2) It only potentially solves a problem for Xbox to improve their numbers temporarily compared to the market leader.
3) It will give them a lower return - if successful - as it will require greater costs to target another system – the justification why the Wii U was cut adrift against the PS4 and XB1 this-gen, despite being closer in performance than the S is to the X, or PS5 obviously. It might help transition more frugal or poorer gamers quicker, but they still aren't going spend the same on games – if they just transitioned at their normal 3-4years later point – and as it isn't really next-gen against the common 4K TV standard being sold – or the emergent 8K option – if those gamers will also replace the S model with an X, later then more of their available money is being spent on hardware, rather than 3rd party publishers' games.
The disc-less delivery might help improve margins for the late digital adopters – who aren't staunch physical-media-until-I-give-up gamer types like me- but digital for the masses is already a thing and these are again gamers that are price sensitive, so will probably just gamepass or buy games at steam-sale pricing, further reducing spend on publishers' games.
You've then got the problem that the S will alter multi-platform game design in a negative way and hold back the PS5 even more than the X, and the life blood of publishers is new hardware – from the market leading platform holder - that makes the best pitch for a new generation and gets everyone (old and new) hopeful and re-energised spending on games again. The S undermines that sales pitch and brings us closer to a time when you can't re-energise on mass – like the PC market that can't afford to exclusively break even on AAA development.

If publishers see the Series S the way I've described, I can see them treating it like the Wii U, and a dead S in the market place mid-gen would have fallout for the whole "Series" brand iMHO and potentially take the series X software and hardware sales down with it.

Looking at the Inside the Series S video, the output doesn't even match the best visuals on PS3 at 720p, so it is going to be a hard sell IMO as a next-gen box - for anyone without a resolution fetish . The absence of Minecraft RT and instead showing an Amiga/ST orthographic 3D (but 2D) version of Minecraft isn't quite the right game to convince me – quite the opposite.

This is why I'm day one for this game. The upgrade is crazy. Can't believe VFXVeteran said it looks exactly the same as Spider-Man PS4.

No game out right now has better hair rendering than this.

Doubtful. You know why? Answer: what is the NFL Season Opener ? a bottle opener of some sort ?
It will be one of the highest rated programs in the US this year, they have a history of announcing things during nfl events and it may not have been planned maybed they bought ad time 6 months ago with the intent of having revealed things by now and are will just use the time in a highly rated spot to say something. Probably not I know but it is just a thought

Not sure if this has been posted, but I saw this on Twitter.

The upgrade of the Times Square red stairs between Spider-Man PS4 and Miles morales. You can also see the ray traced reflection of the underneath of the villains shoe in the puddle.

Here's real life Times Square for comparison.

No that's not Raytracing that's SSR .... and if it was raytracing insomniac did a bad job showing it .... Can I apply to work at Digital foundry now?
I am an videogames expert and let me tell you how light can fix everything with spiderman...As you can see in the last screen there's shadows on the stairs so they obviously look bad because they are in the shadow.
Thanks all for coming to my expert Tedtalk and see you next week for more bullshit.

You sony guys are so easily impressed. The environment is static, the crowd on the left isn't being reflected for example and other reflections look like cube maps. The lighting and shading on PS5 are pretty standard stuff. Simple shadows cast from objects which is typical for all games now basically. So nothing special.

Am I doing this right? 😛 no offense VFX.

But they do launch exclusives on PS Now, but not on launch day of the game.
Semantics. They don't launch their exclusives on PSNow, they launch them as paid for titles and then let some onto PSNow at a later date.

Still I expect a lot of people don't even realise that, or that you can download and play PS4 games on the system locally. Sony needs to do a better job with the marketing of PSNow. The amount of friends I have to explain it too insane, but they get what Gamepass is, so MS are doing a good job in that respect.

Web GameReactor:

Such is the fast-moving nature of the business that we're already hearing reports from multiple sources that Sony has taken the decision to slash the price of the PS5 in response to the aggressive price point of the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

Since writing up our original report, we've heard that Sony is considering pricing the discless PS5 at $399 and the premium edition of the PlayStation will match the Xbox Series X with a $499 price point.

That is the part why I doubt they will announce something PS fans from around the world are waiting for at a sports event only known in the US

One of the greatest misconceptions peddled by some folks around here is that Sony marketing is geared mainly towards the US market:

Hate to break it to you America, but you're less important than you think you are!

Xbox Series S takes 12 seconds to load The Outer Worlds; Xbox One S, 53 seconds....

This could weigh down the entire 3rd generation games because the I / O of the XSS is too low, could you need environment designs just for it or even force to design from below ?.

A CPU problem can not be.

And on the other hand, where does this XVA leave ??? Does it really work? I am concerned that the I / O may not actually be used.

The I/O on the XSS is the same as the XSX.

Third party games will need to take into account PC either way. And when I say PC I don't mean 1.5k PCs or RTX 3080s....

Anyhow, scalability is a thing. There are limits there of course, and PS5 exclusives (1st party) will be the ones taking bigger leaps with the tech.

As an American, good luck trying to use facts to convince most of my countrymen of anything. I mean, have you seen us lately?

America's greatest failing is its own sense of self importance on the international stage. I've always been convinced you'd be a happier, healthier nation if you knew where you actually stand.

Serrano is full of it. He just makes up random dates so he's bound to be right someday.

I've a mindset that Sony will go for pre-orders *just* before Microsoft or after. I don't think it'll be as late as October, but I also don't think it'll be the same day.

In a normal world they'd unlock on the same day, but these systems are extremely anticipated and the crowds a simultaneous unlock would garner would raise concerns in states or countries with very strict Covid-19 crowd restrictions at specific stores.

Even one system alone will generate crowds. Shall see how retailers set up to handle it.

corrected that part!

As a fellow Brit I think we should be wary of what we say at the minute. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Oh we're crap at things too... but at least we know it. We've had centuries to get used to the idea that we're not fantastic at everything. America still thinks it is! A little humility goes a long way, and we got humbled when the empire collapsed. Everything going wrong in America at the moment comes back to the fact that they are struggling to come to terms with the fact they're not actually that great in many ways...

I was thinking more along the lines of that commercial for PS5 on line a few weeks ago with a teaser date and time after added cause they have the space anyway not because it was planned but more just how the dominoes fell and they have the space ad anyway why not use it. And I get no one outside the US cares about the NFL but they could release that info at a random starbucks in Guam and we as Gamers would know within minutes anyway. Its not like it wouldnt be tweeted out and posted here and everywhare online the second it airs anyway. I just figured the NFL Season Opener will get about 25 to 30 million viewers a lot of which may not be traditional gamers so your announcement hits a bigger non traditional audience. I could easliy see them doing this during a major Soccer Event in Europe too but this is just something that hit timing right with the opener tonight and kickoff this weekend

-$100 for removing a disc drive does not make sense. More like $399 Digital - $449 Disc

Exactly as SNPlayen has said above.
It isn't just the cost of the drive you need to take into consideration. But the additional revenue Sony will get from forced digital purchases and no second hand market for those who buy a digital edition. Essentially Sony could take a hit now and make much more than the hit they took in the future.
