Are there any examples or links of Matt sharing insider information that proved to be true? I know he was here for many years but I can't recall a single one.

I care about it because of Sony's presence. Without them I care far less but will still watch MS's conference out of curiosity and to catch multiplat titles that'll come to PS
 
I've seen some posts, particularly on Reee about how this news on this current day in January affects their hype for PS5, bad marketing for it etc. Does anyone really think that Sony announcing this now will have any affect whatsoever to sales to a console releasing at end of year? If anything it's just another day of lots of people talking about Sony and PS5. Just like the other day with the wanky logo reveal. More clicks, chatter about Sony and PS5.

For sure, it's impacting them negatively. Which is probably why they decided to get those news out early.

I just dont think anyone's gonna fall for it anymore. Titanfall 2 was basically DOA on arrival on the PS4, partially because the first one never launched on the most popular console. Same thing happened with Shadow of tomb raider. While publisher execs love fattening their pockets with a cut of whatever millions MS is throwing at them, they do know how to do the math and giving MS exclusive rights to their games which not only wont sell as well but also kill any future sales for the franchise is probably not good business.

With all that said, i think next gen will bring back the third party exclusive deals everyone loves to hate. It's crazy that Sony was able to lock up FF7, Nioh 1&2, Nier 2, Yakuza and several other japanese franchises without MS doing much to stop them. I wouldnt be surprised if MS bought another timed exclusive and i certainly wouldnt be surprised if Sony did the same with a massive franchise.

  • I am pretty sure Rocksteady has been quiet for 4 years because their game is now next gen and likely a Sony exclusive.
  • As crazy as it sounds, i think Sony might have paid Rockstar some serious cash to get 1-2 months timed exclusivity for GTA6. After all, if the game is next gen only, they wont be selling $700 million worth of copies in the first weekend. It's a risky move and maybe some assurances and cash from Sony was the push they needed to not make the game cross gen. I wouldnt be surprised that the recent rush of MS buying up studios was directly as a result of Sony's deal with Rockstar. After all, Phil didnt give a shit about building a first party portfolio at the start of this gen and his first acquisition was Minecraft. why the change of heart all of a sudden?
  • I think they will partner up with either Ready at Dawn, Platinum Games and maybe a couple other third party studios in japan.
I am sure MS will do some deals to counter them. i just dont know if any of the big studios will fall for it.

Phil didn't bought Minecraft. It was bought by Microsoft, not their gaming department

Why?
I mean, I understand that it's bad for the ESA and E3 as an institution...but why should I be displeased by Sony not attending E3?

I've gotten a lot of joy out of previous E3 conferences. There have been a hell of a lot of memorable moments for sure. But it's not like there are a dearth of other gaming events around the world for hype, and news and press conferences. If E3 dies, another event - preferably one that understands the importance of data protection - will rise to replace it.
 
Highest viewed streams for e3 are around 1.6 million only . We are at a time that a YouTube video of xsx got 9 million hits or a ps5 logo got 6 million likes . In absolute terms e3 is irrelevant and it's mostly done due to nostalgia and tradition and not viewership and numbers . Ps4 YouTube video got 50 million hits . All the videos in e3 are no where close to that number.

It will only suck for the fans if they don't announce any event instead of e3 . Otherwise who cares ?

Things I really hope with PS5:

- targeting high frame rates in FPS games instead of resolution (or at least the option to choose the settings)

- bluetooth connectivity not restricted just to the Playstation headsets (which suck IMO), there's a lot of great headphones out there, I want to use my Audio Technicas fully wirelessly. (or at least just give me the possibility to plug in a mic in the controller and play the chat audio in the main mix, which is not possible on the PS4)

that being said, do you think it'll be a good idea to upgrade to a 144hz monitor? or the majority of FPS games will still be 60fps?

I still think we ll see 30 and 60 . Nothing more as the devs want to push eye candy.
 
Regarding frame rate It will be no different than previous generations. While now they'll have VRS (can be used to enhance graphics even further) and better CPUs it's still not happening, I expect multiplayer games to be 60-120 FPS (Apex, Fortnite, etc) and the rest with a few exceptions will still be 30. Hopefully I'm wrong but I just don't see it.
 
I think there will be more 60 frames per second than this generation. But there will be enough 30 frames per second eye candy ones also. That's the way the cookie crumbles... the push for realism always takes a bite out of the framerate.

I'm wondering if it's worth it for devs to develop for 120fps. We are talking about consoles, so most of them play on TV. How many TV's support 120fps? Honest question, I just don't know, and I'm wondering if it's worth the time and investment instead of just putting it at 60fps.
 
PGW is a better place to make price/date announcements, and gives Sony plenty of time to answer to whatever MS announces at E3 (if needed).
Otherwise, there is always Gamescom, if PGW is too close to the release date.

Retailers need to know what margins to expect, so it's not like manufacturers can wait until the last minute to announce pricing.

It'be nice to have the option to choose 1080p and have more frames... FPS games are about snappy response times...fingers crossed

This generation basically every game that pushed competitive-play hit 60fps.

Some single player games will still go for 30, but it's a declining trend imo.

At most launches or E3s either Sony or MS announces a buy out of some description.
I could say this.
"MS is in the process of buying one or more studios. Expect to hear something either before E3, or at E3 itself "

Now there is a pretty good chance that will come true. And then like Klee I could become a trusted insider. Well, not so much here as only insiders who give Sony the nod are called insiders.

Bad news ? Must be e3. It's not really bad news unless you like using it to suit an Xbox fanboy agenda.

I'm guessing it's a Japanese studio or British one as that ps fanboy dude got wind of it and he's UK based.

I've said it before but I would love Sony to be at E3. It's a show for gamers. It's like the super bowl of video games. Outside of appealing to core gamers like us. The show is really non existent to the vast majority. Out of everyone I know in my circle of friends, even the ones that play games. I'm the only one that watches E3. Sucks but we live in an age where a simple tweet here and there does more to reach the general public then a big show like E3. As long as Sony/MS/Nintendo stay relevant at that time. Staying active on social media. Then that really is all they need. I think Sony figured this out. It certainly explains why they don't do big shows anymore, instead preferring to do smaller reveals throughout the year. That's what I figure anyway.
