is saying, is also what he's been hearing from his sources too.12 v 13 seems like a lot, being larger than the gap between xbox one and PS4, but this will barely be noticeable, 8% difference, 600000 less pixels (from full 4k) or 5 FPS from 60 just taking 8% from both, not how it works I know, but gives you an idea of how minuscule these differences would be and could very easily result in the weaker console just running closer to choosen framerate and the stronger one having a bit more head room above.
The only way a 12 v 13 margin will matter is in forum warring.

This thread is hilarious......Some posters were fine with the 12TF ceiling for next gen consoles because the rumor was that Series X would be 12TF and of course the lowly PS5 would be 9.2TF.....Now someone says the PS5 is going to be 13TF, it's unbelievable because of heat, 12TF is the limit, they could believe 12TF because it is at the perfect TFLOP rating to dissipate heat, anything more and it would be uncivilized, literally the sahara in a box...…..

No; 13TF PS5 sounds unrealistic because with the hard data that's already out there with PS5-related GPU benchmark tests, they'd either need a set of chips or a single chip that has zero results available (by some miracle, this late in the game) that have been uncovered by people who are skilled at uncovering those results, or they are intending to use dual Oberon chips clocked well below their sweetspot, which could also indicate that the dual GPU feature was added later on in a significant late-stage redesign (giving validation to speculation of a 2019 launch being delayed, possible issues behind-the-scenes with the design teams, parts of SIE i.e key division heads leaving, etc.).There's also the fact Oberon testing was still being done at 2GHz as late as last June; so for 13TF either over-stress one Oberon at 2GHz and have the second perform at clock levels of GPUs from over 5 years ago? Why?!? Or set the Oberons to lower clocks...where we haven't seen any benchmarks for said clocks that could realistically give 13TF with dual Oberon GPU setup?
Or clock Oberon around XSX's GPU clock target and have a smaller 2nd GPU in dual-GPU setup operating at same clock, for between 12 up to slightly above 13TF? So where is there any hard data pointing to the existence of this other GPU chip, related to PS5?
If you're using logic and reasoned thinking here, there's a lot of alarm bells in regards to 13TF PS5 considering many things lending proof to it missing which should have more than likely been uncovered by now, even if just partially. It has nothing to do with "impossible thermal envelopes" or impossible engineering to hit that performance level in a console.

Exactly. I'm no engineer, so can't say if it really needs that much space-age engineering to get 1 extra Tf of the PS5 GPU (maybe more CUs to not raise the clocks/getting hotter). But about price and shape of the PS5, or even it's cooling solution, we don't have nothing yet to speculate! Everything is a possibility.
The way i see it, Sony is the company with the bigger install base of both software buyers and full paying subscribers, and at the same time (and to me, the most important factor) Sony is the one that has to bring the 'performance/resolution' Next Gen jump... in console games, and PSVR2 games! That's what makes it really hard for me to believe that the PS5 engineering team would be the one targeting lower specs,... And to back up all that Sonys 'conservative and price conscious' big plan, that team10tf defend.
Like people like to say,,,, just my 2 cents.

Well I mean, tons of people said something similar to this about Microsoft at the start of this gen before the reveals, and we saw how that played out.
I'm not ruling out the possibility of a 13TF PS5, but the circumstantial evidence and pattern of evidence we have so far doesn't point to it. We have some insiders giving lip service to the claim and that's cool; maybe they know something we don't. But I'm just going with what's been coming out PS-wise in terms of actual events, rumors, mostly-confirmed rumors and data leaks for the past year or so.
So to me, there isn't a lot of solid ground at present to make a 13TF PS5 realistically possible, in a way that's also logically. They can technically go for it even with what we currently know (take an Oberon, dual GPU it basically), but that would smell like a costly and unexpected redesign, not an original plan.
And that opens up a whole can of other worms. But no, "engineering reasons" i.e thermal reasons isn't a factor into why 13TF would be impossible, I don't think anyone dismissing 13TF has honestly brought that up. All the same, idealistic reasons like Sony feeling some pressure to set a performance bar, aren't enough a reason to think they're pushing with a 13TF PS5 or even a 12TF PS5, either, imho. We've seen many times with past generational transitions where the market leader of the previous gen makes decisions for the next system that don't always (if ever) equate to "We need to have the absolute most powerful system of everybody!". I don't think console manufacturers really think of the process that way.

Exactly. The idea that a huge company and market leader like Sony would drastically change plans that are several years in the making as a reaction to losing the fanboy ascribed 'performance crown' by a small percent is fantastical.
If PS5 is 9tflops it's 9tflops of RDNA, with the SSD this will be a giant leap. They'll price it accordingly if XSX is 12tflops with a slower SSD. So XSX could be $499 and PS5 $450.
