Valiant effort but it's not a good looking design imo. Slopes, pointy corners are a no no.

I'm just keeping my expectations in check. Remember this gen we got one console with low end cpu and low end gpu and the other one with low end cpu and midrange gpu.

Anything not from the blue LED crowd usually looks ok.

Interesting that then CEO Andrew House got to pick the final PS4 design (I assume there was a choice) - it's kind of like him, skinny, sharp edges/suit .. not heavyweight ..

Current CEO is Jim Ryan, who I couldn't find a single flattering picture of, so I decided not to post one. I wonder what design he will chose. [edit - I noticed he often has a red face, like he's running hot ..]

The shape of the PS5 devkits should tell you all you need to know. It's not a 8 or 9 TF machine, you guys are in for a surprise.

I'd like surprises, but I don't see PS5 being anywhere close to Xbox Series X in terms of power. Rather we'd be getting a well rounded and balanced console, but significantly less powerful than Xbox Series X. Hope I am wrong!

One X is GCN architecture, while series x will use RDNA. RDNA is 1.2 times the power at the same teraflops. So 12 GCN teraflops would actually be RDNA 10 teraflops. That would be the basement for the series X. So yea definitely above 9, but not guaranteed 12.

Based on what? The people in the know all have been saying the same thing: they're close in power and both are fantastic machines.
9 vs 12 is not close, it's not happening. You can bookmark me if you want.

At best there will be a 15% difference in GPU power, that's about it. If XSX is 12 TF at worse PS5 will be at 10.25 TF.
I also wouldn't take for granted that the XSX will be setting a benchmark on holiday season but we'll see soon enough.

Even 9.2 tf vs 12 tf means around 30% power difference. That is lower than ps4 and x1 and pro and 1x . So significantly is not happening .

Yea but none of the devs said x1 was stronger (only ms pr said x1 is stronger than ps4)where we have heard it few times from different journalists quoting devs that ps5 is edging out xsx . Anyways useless back and forth . We ll see soon enough.

GCN is the old AMD GPU architecture. RDNA is the new one with 1.25 times performance improvement over previous architecture.

More like Kepler vs Maxwell but AMD took advantage of a new process mode while nVidia did that in the same process node (impressive).

If Sony can emulate the cell in real time at game speed, hats off to them. I don't think XSX would be fast enough on the CPU side to emulate 360 in real time. Even though Xenon's IPC isn't that great, you still need to output code at the same speed, the fact that you are looking at 6 threads @ 3.2Ghz makes this difficult. Now maybe since the new CPUs are SMT, you could have two threads emulating each core, but it's not easy. PC is a much better fit for emulation, it's easier to get a clock speed higher than the emulated CPU (IPC doesn't matter much, even Vishera is a better fit). If MS wanted to make all 360 disks playable, they'd probably have to just include Xenon, it's only what 160 - 170m transistors.

Its 1.25x per clock. Per TF its more.

For example 7.9TF 5700 easily beats Vega64 (12.7TF). They are limited by BW in higher resolution therefore vs R7 they lose (XT) as well, but consoles will have more BW then Navi 10.

Who says PS5 will be in a small form factor? Kind of volume like original "fat" PlayStation 3 at least.

BTW, Bluepoint's next project gonna be a remaster/remake of much more ancient title than the 2009 one. You actually don't need to remaster/remake a title when you're doing something far more ambitious in the same universe/setting with a sequel!

Not even close. 7.9TF 5700 smokes Vega 64, let alone Vega 56.

Its 1.25x per clock, but RDNA is also 1.5x per watt so you get 1.25x per clock + additional clock advantage from RDNAs ability to clock higher and you get 35-40% advantage (per TF).

As you see, even OEM 5700 is 7% faster then Vega64 in 4K. Its well down to R7 but that one was made for 4k with 1TB/s bandwidth.

Considering One X can hit 4k/30 with pretty high settings in Destiny 2, and 4K/30 in Red Dead, optimization seems to be the key here.
