lol but honestly I wouldn't even bother giving that account attention. The guy is a middle aged fanboy (literally). At least with characters like Timdog they're up front about it & wear it on their sleeve, which is slightly commendable.

You must came to the PS1 game late then almost all early Ps1 models had laser issues where first turn on side or upside down fixed it for a while then dead. My local game stores would not take any in trade that were earlier models. Those were a piece of crap swept under the rug by the game rags at the time. It was the rrod of the day but with no internet like today it could be swept under the rug. You are lucky to of avoided that I went through half dozen myself at least since we had 2 at going at a time in our gaming cave.

here is a fact .. didn't happen to me in that way the 1st ps1 i got was perfect i only needed to clean that laser len from time to time other than that everything was great .. in his post he was like playing consoles in the center of a tornado

I had a fat60 gig ps3 from day one.
It died 6 years in . Got the yellow light.

Replaced it with a ps3 slim. The first one not the ugly top loader one. That i still have mainly for demons souls.

This is what happened to me , this is my story deal with it.

I had a ps one since 1995.
I started with 2600 in 84 .
I owned several consoles .
And with confidence i tell you sony co soles where always crap. psone died 3 months in . Replaced under warranty. Died again. Ps2 fuck man died every year till i got the slim.

Ps3 lasted 6 years. Finally though this thing is magic. Nope died at the hight of my gaming phase where i had all day to play.

Those issues were known and didnt affect most consoles. Those percentages were small nowhere near rrod situation.
 
My PS1 broke and it would only load when I placed it upside down. My PS2 didn't really have any issues that I can recall though I left it with an ex so who knows. My 60GB PS3 laser died and I DIY replaced it. Still working as far as I know though the wide door broke off the front. Launch PS4 ran fine till I sold it for a PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro still runs fine but is loud yeah. Not broken though I do seem to have issues with "not powering down properly" fairly often even though I use the menus to shut it down.

Original xbox ran fine no issues. My 360 I think I had an RROD can't remember.. maybe even 2? My Xbox One launch system ran fine till I sold it for the green BF edition. Those got handed down to my kids and still run fine. Picked up a couple Scarlett Launch Edition XB1X at launch and they both run fine.

Both systems have had their share of issues really.

That being said, never had any issues with my numerous Nintendo or Sega systems haha

(I guess to add to this my PSP and Vita never had any issues and both run fine. Prob most solid out of any of the systems I've ever owned)

I believe you 100% I only think you were unlucky. PS1 was famous about faulty lasers, I replaced it once. PS2 was better but some had issues with its laser, mine survived. My PS3 got the laser replaced by 2013 after like 7 years. Day one PS4 (given to a friend) and day one PS4 Pro are still in perfect condition. It's like cars, some people have insane issues with a car, some don't for the similar car.

BS, everyone's 360 dies. I barely played mine and it got the rrod when CoD MW came out.

My ps2 lasted all the way to ps3 until my nephew knocked it over. My ps3 launch unit still works flawlessly.

Edit : forgot to mention, my cousin would leave my ps2 on for days and it annoyed me. No idea why he didn't turn it off. He had the game paused and left it there.

I never had any laser issues with my PS1. Bought it around the time FF7 came out.

The problem I had was the plastic that goes in the middle of the disc crumbled apart.

It is but If it was for a 2k reveal the teaser wouldn't just be the jumpman logo IMO, as Jordan brand is far larger than nba 2k, and I think we'd be seeing a lot more teased from the 2k side of things as well. Last year 2k was revealed in march iirc so it's not crazy early, but I'd still be surprised.


It's also worth noting that it's almost the All star break, and in 2018 we saw an Xbox edition of a Jordan, so there is precedent for this to just be shoes.

mm, just guessing but maybe its nba live? like with a exclusive license for jordan brand. EA and Microsoft are close partners and even had fifa exclusive historical player deals in the past. Playing the guess game, maybe nba live got rebranded to jordan sth?

I had a PS1 that had the spindle break within 3 months (not a launch model), a fat PS2 that died on me (granted I left it on for like two days because I wanted to unlock all the cars and tracks in Burnout 3 and didn't have a memory card at the time), and a PS3 die on me with the YLOD, while simply browsing a video game website.

Conversely, never had my Genesis die on me, nor N64, Gamecube or even 360 (not a launch model). You could argue I just took better care of them tho, none of them were left running for two days straight.

Out of curiosity, did your lasers die because of clone discs? I believe that was the issue with PS1 and 2. A lot of people used low quality cloned discs on them that damaged their lasers.

My ps1 and ps2 were plagued by DRE errors. The ps1 didn't have the decency to even give an error iirc. Ps2 was a mess but at least they fixed it for free Thanks to that class action lawsuit.


My launch ps3 yloded only 2 and a half years in and they wanted me to pay $150 to fix that $599 console. I just began to use my brothers 40 gb which came out a year after the launch models and it never gave me any issues.

I wish someone kept track of the launch ps3s failing because everyone i knew had their launch ps3 ylod on them. Sony only shipped around 6 million of those units and i remember YouTube videos filled with comments about their consoles failing. It was way more than the 5% Sony claimed.

Thats what you get as an early adopter.
Firat time psone died was playing discworld.
Replaced it as often as my daughters diappers.
Then they came out with the revised model where the reader was in the 3 o clock position. Never had a problem ever since.
Ps2 same shit. Reader died several times.
Replaced reader for big bucks as it was out of warranty.
Ps3 lasted much longer.
Ps4 and ps4 pro no issue from day one. Still working.

But discs were always an issue for me. Let me not start on the sega cd.

He does other stuff occasionally. I'm Xbox first and I still enjoy his content. I watch mostly retro game channels, but I like watching him for some good PS discussion.

my 20gb launch model did the yloded within three years. very light/moderate use on the console within that time too. i believe i went and bought the first slim model to replace it.

I have never used a copy on any system I did run my systems hard back in the day 14 hours a day when not working. It sucked but shit happens I got my money out of each of the half dozen or so PS1 ones. Running 2 ps1 for multiple player was the shit back then. Was also nice to play a game while letting another run like a sim city lol.

I used to do those even in recent years. I do play for like 20+ hours straight, no sleeping when an insanely addictive game comes. I remember doing around 51 hours straight (lots of coffee, no sleeping) on MGS5 (massive fan of the franchise) and skipping 2 days at work (received a salary cut later that month :messenger_anxious: ).

From old times I recall Super Mario 3 and Captain Tsubasa (and that later was 100% in Japanese, don't ask me how I beat the game several times) on Family Computer (NES) .

Yes, I remember my cousin having 0 issues with his PS1 using only originals. He was living in the capital and had access to more genuine games. Those genuine ones were insanely good, I love reading all the manuals and how they are packed. Far from the capital it was hard to find genuine games, and if any most of them are limited. Remember owning more than 250 games for like 1 Omani Rial each or 0.5 ($1.3-2.6 USD). They were so disposable that you decorate your car with some, when it was a thing to have shiny cd hanging from your rearview mirror (I was too young to have a car anyway). PS2 had the same issue with lack of original copies, and owned a gigantic amount of games as well. PS3 were original games only and I remember spending something near $4000 USD on games and I really don't remember how many I had. Gave all of them to friends for free when the PS4 came except for LBP for the little kids at home to play. Now I think I have around 120+ games, 100+ AAA games (98% digital).

None of them died. I still have the PS3 and PS1 from that list. I replaced the PS4 with a Pro and the PS2 with a slim ( I can't remember why I did - but I did. Maybe I thought the slim was cool ).

I did buy and use a 2009 PS3 slim because I was afraid the launch console would die if I kept running it and I didn't want to lose the backward compatibility (still use it for that) - but as of today it still works and I normally plug it in to play PS1 and PS2 games on an HDTV with HDMI.

The only console that died on me was the first gen Xbox 360. Subsequent Xbox consoles for me have been excellent as well.

I could be lucky and some people can be unlucky - but I always have to imagine when I hear someone talk about every console they owned dying that we're dealing with a 2 pack a day smoker in an 8x8 room with no ventilation. That's the old PC repair guy inside me coming out.

In a couple of job listings from the 31stUnion careers page they mention things like "experience with AAA open world titles preferred", "medium to large environments" and "multiplayer character-action game". Sounds like Battlefield meets Overwatch.

what makes it worse is that Sony effectively skipped 2 E3s, and the only new game they've announced was GoT

I don't get it. People keep saying stuff like this that you can't have more than 40 CU's for Navi10 so PS5 can't be whatever. Except...don't we already know that Navi10 doesn't support RT and the PS5 definitely has that? Also being described as a "custom Navi" implementation like the new Xbox? So wouldn't that indicate that we really don't know ANYTHING about the PS5 that rationally gives the lie to these reports from devs, etc. (not talking about this specific 'leak' but I mean those others)? Something seems off to me and it SEEMS to be that Sony's done a great job of keeping the lid on things so far. We will see.

yep. at least dreams is coming out on friday. though i cant believe after 9 years in development they only have a 2 hour single player campaign.

they shouldve done a wired article or even a state of play for the specs or something if they werent ready for the reveal. its been pretty crazy. github leaks made it even worse, and sony just doesnt seem to care. their pr department is either very detached or simply poor.

Yeah Dreams looks cool but a 2 hr campaign just seems lazy.

LBP's campaign was longer and had some cool co-op aspects.

Meh, I want MM to just make single player games like Tearaway.

They could be Sony's "Nintendo" division but they choose to be Epic games and create engines for casuals which doesn't really mix well
