Show me and everyone else then when AMD confirmed the Ps5 is 100% RDNA 2 they haven't neither have sony .And no i'm not a microsoft fanboy i'd love the ps5 to be RDNA 2 and 13tf + . Lets be honest xbox fanboy's want the PS5 at 9.2tf, Sony fanboy's want 13tf . If xbox fanboy's get what they want XSX has the most powerful console but the price,lack of games,lockhart,will hold it back and i don't think many developers will use the extra power. PS5 has the games will sell more but the lack of power will hold back true next gen experiences. Best outcome is PS5 and XSX are similar in power and price everyone wins great first party games on both and no compromise multi plats on both.

As far as complete BC on PS5, that would be an incredible bomb for Sony to drop at their reveal.

The power level of these CPUs and GPUs tell me it is more than capable of handling it, but we have inside folks saying that they haven't heard about that, save for a scant couple.

That doesn't neccesarily mean it is untrue, because that could be something Sony *seriously* doesn't want to spoil ahead of time.

I think it'll be more along the lines of utilizing their mutual agreement with Microsoft from last year with their cloud technology and going for a complete revamp of PS Now with a massive library available.

The only BC that matters for a considerable amount of consumers is ps4 BC. How would they make money off ps1-3 BC?
I'd be pretty miffed if sony wasted resources on ps1-3 BC just to appease a few thousand people.

I've said it multiple times and I'll say it again. BC is overrated. Its a nice option but it won't sway new customers anyway seeing as their going to stay in the ecosystem they're invested in.

I barely used BC on my xbox. It'll be nice for launch for those who want to trade in their xbox one or ps4 so they can keep playing their games but after that it becomes an afterthought imo.

Backwards compatibility should preferably target both the ps4 & ps3 because that's when digital purchases became a real fact of life for gamers. I have a considerable number of digitally owned ps3 titles which I can no longer play because my ps3 after 10 years developed a beeping red light on death when I attempt to play a game (i.e. it auto switches off & won't read physical disks either). So a ps5 with backwards compatibility (& framerate improvements/resolution improvements in certain cases) would be very welcome. I also fully expect ps4 backwards compatibility to feature the ps4 pro patches (i.e. playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey for example on the ps5 should be the ps4 pro version).

I've always felt the same way. Even going back to the PS2/PS360 I barely ever touched it.

It's going to be nice to have due to the PC/Mobile like ecosystem that both companies are adopting, but it's not a deal breaker for me if not.

This gen xbox fanboys have loved flaunting it but lets be honest, they barely use it. Maybe a little more than normal tho since ms first party lineup has been weak this gen.

There's another explanation for this, actually (same as why first Oberon revision said "full chip"): Oberon's testlists are actually Ariel's testlists, and the regression testing was done using an Ariel iGPU profile.

Since Ariel is an RDNA1-based chip, it lacked hardware RT, VRS and other RDNA2 features, and the "full chip" listing in the initial Oberon data referenced the Ariel chip in its iGPU profile for regression testing. Also for purposes of regression testing for PS4/PS4 Pro compatibility, RDNA2 features such as RT and VRS would not need to be enabled in the tests (nor could they if such was done on the Ariel iGPU profile, since Ariel isn't an RDNA2 chip).

I still think Oberon is the PS5 chip, and it's an RDNA2 chip at that; there's no reason to test it with a fourth revision (E0) as late as December of last year if it is in fact not a PS5 chip. The question is when can we get testing data actually testing Oberon instead of the Ariel iGPU profile? My hope would say soon, at that point we can see what Oberon actually entails outside of the Ariel iGPU profile testlists.

That's what baffles me in MS strategy, they seem to pursue platform agnostic services but at the same time spend some serious cash on R&D for XSX. They care about hardware, and don't at the same time.

Same type of SSD, not necessarily same capacity. Memory type would stay the same but price kept relatively low thanks to bulk discount contracts, same as Sony. Smaller GPU means smaller wafer footprint means cheaper production costs.

We also don't know what the form factor for Series S will be. The latest APU leak tied to a MS console product suggests it could be a portable-like device since TDP-down is explicitly mentioned. Odd thing to mention for a traditional console-like design.

Personally I think Series S is probably some portable-like device being aimed at markets where consoles aren't a big deal, such as some Asian territories, and might be reflective of the recently announced Samsung partnership. That would be the smartest choice IMHO, but we have to wait a little more to find out.

I'm more concerned about the 1S/1X with Microsoft's first party mandate for the games to work on them, than I am with Lockhart overall.

Correct me if I am wrong, you are suggesting that Oberon is RDNA2 from day 1?

I can't get around the fact that if it's running on Ariel iGpu profile, shouldn't the chipset's native info show that it's an RDNA2 chip?

Current data that we have is pointing to it being navi10/RDNA.

I'd like PS3 BC, have some backlog there that I cannot play because my console bit the dust and I don't want to buy another.

Need a box for those Live subscriptions. A ton of revenue they're not willing to give up yet. I don't blame them.

About PS4:

A PS4 Pro is just a beefed up version of the PS4 base model. Microsoft might not care about exclusive titles, but Sony does. That's why e.g. Uncharted 4 and God Of War look so much better on the Pro model. It's not just an upscaled version like on XBox.

That's why the CPU wasn't improved for the mid-gen refreshes. Cerny and Phil knew that devs would be lazy and simply program for the lowest common denominator only to then upscale the resolution of their games for the 'pro' consoles. That's why people are worried that Microsoft's 'Lockhart' console will hold back their exclusives and possibly even third-party games if it's implemented poorly.

If Halo Infinite for example was a Series X exclusive, you could've possibly seen entire levels designed around ray-tracing for maximum 'wow' factor. Some vehicles may have had incredible speeds to fully utilise the SSD. But that's not going to be possible if you're going to share the multiplayer servers with users still using slow hard drives.

I hope Sony delivers one strong console on release day as their baseline for next-gen games. Devs would then take more effort so as to not simply upscale their games.

I haven't said the PS5 is RDNA or RDNA 2 I can see what it says above but microsoft have said the XSX is RDNA2 Sony haven't. If Sony have a 13tf RDNA 2 faster SSD better Ray tracing console that out performs the XSX why aren't they saying so. And i don't believe this they don't want to affect PS4 sales and games like last of us 2, Ghost of Tsushima which will play on PS5 anyway.Either the PS5 is much weaker than the XSX or they do have a stronger console but it could be delayed.
