Personally, what I'm most interested about in the PS5 is the SSD. I don't really care if it has 12, 16 or 20 GB of RAM or 11, 12 or 13 TF. But the SSD - that's the game changer for me. I hate loading times with a passion. If they match or exceed the SSD in the XSX, I'm going to be a happy man.

Loading times on next gen machines is going to be magical compared to this gen, gonna love it.

Sony uses BSD on their PS dev kits. The original content is on a Windows box with VS C++ and DX with PLSL with Nvidia GPUs. I know this for a fact because I know people who work at ND. And of course, you know that Xbox developers use Windows+DX all the way through their pipeline.

But it will be expensive, cause you can buy those m.2 ssd, you have to buy the one MS/SONY want you to buy.

Personally, I think Sony is in a position to match specs, but possibly not exceed them depending on if they went monolithic with their design like Mircorosft has. I also have a lot of faith in the 11.6 rumor is true quite frankly. But with the design Microsoft has chosen, I think they have the headroom to up-clock prior to launch which will most likely require a day 1 firmware update. I'm not choosing sides here, but it's just my opinion as the've done it before with the Xbox One which also had a decent thermal design considering the giant grill on top. Either way, I really do want both consoles under my TV as both have their merits.

Gamers: whooa ... cool!

Sony: (reveals ps5 details and specs two days later, and it's more or less the same console)

No, what a poor marketing strategy would be to release the info at a later date. As already mentioned, this week is really the last chance before things get pretty grim with this virus.
 
I have a feeling this thread will reach 1800 posts by tomorrow.

I wonder if Sony's "right backacha" reaction was twofold: they were hesitant to reveal the ps5 amidst the coronavirus and before ms showing their hand.

But looking at ms giving info during the viral crisis anyway, sony said: "know what? Fuck it. Let's go as well."

Another, completely different is to accuse a person of being corrupt. In my country that is literally a crime. You can go to jail for being corrupt, and you can go to jail for falsely accuse someone of that. That is not something to joke around.

no it's just GDC time... that's why both are now revealing the specs. I bet both reveal exactly as planned months ago

You're confusing the IDE aka Visual Studio with the underlying compiler used. Sony is using LLVM with the clang backend and not the cl compiler included with Visual Studio. This allows them to cross compile to the PS target.

Last chance? I doubt that.

I made this post before it was announced that this was intended for GDC. But still, does seem strange that they would announce it right after MS' deep dive press release.
