Interactive remains part of the Studios and Networks group, along with our Global Brands and Franchises team including DC led by Pam Lifford, and our Kids, Young Adults and Classics business led by Tom Ascheim, all focused on engaging fans with our brands and franchises through games and other interactive experiences.

Just as a personal reference about this kind of deal...

When COD had exclusivity on Xbox there was a moment in 2012 I believe where the competitive scene started to appear, the call of duty: Black ops 2 world championship, I was in a COD group in Facebook for my country, where basically 90% of the users (130 players) had PS3s, after that tournament basically all of the players started to sell their PS3 and buy a 360... for them was a really surprise scenario when the scene moved completely to PS4...

So yea, little things like that, Tournament exclusive and 30 days exclusive really sell consoles at a rate is really hard to calculate but we can know for sure it happens.
 
Man, 750M, sony could buy so many great IPs that are abandoned or revive some of their own IPS that they are doing nothing with, instead, they'll just throw it all away. Poor moves are gonna poor.

.....or they could make the deals they're making and make more $$ and draw in more customers than any of those abandoned IP.

Throwing $$ away? Hardly. There's a reason these deals keep happening....because they work.
 
Gta 6, too big. Gta5 remastered for ps5 with VR support. :pie_thinking: :pie_thinking: Cod and ff16 timed a couple of months could be. Mgs and silent hill, could be. Maybe some capcom IPs.

Maybe they work for you, for me they dont, I never bought one playstation console cuz they had some deal with any 3rd party, not destiny, not cod, not final fantasy. I can play those games already, why not work to bring things that aren't out there, that you cant find anywhere else?

I think the chances are good. Certainly would think we'd get something this week unless Sony plans on stepping all over Microsoft's announcement (which is the 20th, I think?). We'll see. This certainly is bizarrely quiet....especially considering we should be placing pre-orders already! The rush is going to be INSANE this year!
 
I was guessing at FIFA 21 exclusivity as that is literally the one game that would probably make my Xbox family get a PS5. But they could still play the current version on an Xbox via BC and just wait a year. And it wouldn't be a good look for EA who already have it announced for XSX so scrap that idea.

I wonder if EA even could legally make FIFA an exclusive with all the licenses involved. That's what ended MLB The Show being a PlayStation exclusive. Seems like the MLB forced Sony to start putting it on more platforms. The leagues want the money and exposure. I doubt any sports game would go exclusive.

I prefer couch gaming so I ran several long ass cables from my desk to the couch.

There I have a 32" 60hz 4k HDR monitor on a swivel arm so I can move the monitor smack in front of me when on couch. I have a sound bar and wanted all audio from everything to use it. I bought several hdmi switches with audio extractor functionality, finally the third one worked well.

So I now have my pc, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch and an Nvidia Shield media player hooked up to the monitor. Audio of all 4 runs thru my sound bar. Next I added a simple USB kvm switch which I hooked up to the PS4 Pro and pc which has 2 dongles attached for my wireless keyboard and mouse.

I wanted the latter separate because I also have a 2nd monitor, 22", to the right of the main one which is also hooked up to my pc so I can play on my PS4 Pro and still browse websites and chat using keyboard and mouse...

See, you're not the only one!

I think this isn't a like for like comparison though.

Yes it may pay the costs of the salaries of the people working on the game for a period - but it doesn't cover the other incidentals and it certainly isn't the same as setting up a studio from scratch and the years it takes to be able to produce something like GTA.

So just paying for salaries isn't the same as the value of a main line GTA iteration in terms of its market popularity. You could build a rolex that sells for about $15000 RRP for perhaps just $1500 if you were to just measure the value of materials and time - but that isn't the value of a Rolex either in terms of brand or the expertise required to build a $15000 product from just $1500 of raw materials.

So yeah - I'd just suggest caution with the direct $ equivalence values because that's not what a corp is paying for - they're paying for the value of the end product in the marketplace.

750 million for timed exclusivity games would be a massive waste of money. They should invest in actual game development, or at worse buy interesting IPs instead.

Jesus one 'insider' guy (but not really) tweeted 750 mil figure and everyone treats it like God's Word from Holy Bible. I get this is speculation thread and everyone wants to run wild with what they are given but geeeeez at least just speculate on third party games without getting that figure involved as if it is officially confirmed or something.

Yeah me too, however these are really old franchises with seemingly nothing in the pipes for the future and also not yearly franchises that other people speculate on which ensures that there is at least a game coming out with or without exclusivity. So, CoD or GTA or even FIFA makes more sense that their timed exclusivity would be at least cut short with their next installments, and they make the most money both for the publishers and console manufacturers securing the timed exclusivity.

With that in mind I would love an ME exclusivity deal for the next game including a remaster of the trilogy.

Yep, the guy has no credibiity.

It could be $750m, $170m or nothing for all we know. It's a rumour based on a rumour.
 
I could see Sony making a deal with any couple of these games. Console exclusives, timed exclusives, exclusive content, or just timed exclusivity on content/DLC, but people are saying there's a lot.

Fortnite, COD, GTA, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, or even Suicide Squad
Kojima's next game, or that rumored Silent Hill game
Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 16, or Remedy's next RCU game
Hitman 3, RE8, RE4 remake, or Battlefield 6
Starfield, next BioShock, WB rumored Batman game, or Street Fighter 6
various indies

CP2077 dlc's are negotiated at the moment by both companies. CPR wants very much for month exclusivity, but with problems in studio both companies are very cautious and not throwing money at them. First major DLC is scheduled to came in 2021 beside proper nextgen upgrade for basic game. DLC team right now is helping with currentgen version of game, like almost all of the other team beside bugs and fixes team. Witcher 4 is on whiteboard , not sooner than ending of nextgens probably. There is to early to talk about anything concerning W4, talking about its exclusivity when they are in pre production is stupid. They are no rockstar to manage two huge games in the same time. Even CP2077 production started for real after W3 last dlc and it was in much better state than W4 right now. W4 is 2025 game at best.

He's probably full of shit, but the kind of figure he mentions is quite realistic.

SCE's profits for Q1 were well over $1 billion. That's well over a billion dollars profit, in three months, just for PlayStation. That's huge. It's bigger than Xbox's entire revenue for the same period.

If they are going to drop massive amounts on huge money hats like COD or GTA, this is the time they are going to do it.

They could easily be looking at taking a huge chunk of that profit and investing it into high profile titles, to ensure a lot of hardware sales fast, before the coronavirus crunch properly hits. They've doubled production of the Ps5 already. They know they have something huge lined up, that will see a lot more people buying a Ps5.

Exactly. They will invest in whatever will generate more revenue. Sometimes that corresponds to the fans' wet wishes as well, sometimes not.
