Different TF measurements due to different architectures. What? Isn't 4 (XSS) vs 4.2 (Pro)?
I think turning off SMT also lowers power draw. So Xbox allows a slight upclock for that option. They forced? I believes devs can disable if they wish.
It just Sony released the same specs that AMD release for CPUs... clocks with SMT enabled.
MS just thought that 3.6Ghz is better than 3.4Ghz (because they probably knew PS5 3.5Ghz) so they don't felt inferior I guess.
I know that, but that was never a problem for MS marketing. They know TFs aren't the same, even between 2 custom RDNA 2 GPUs but they choose to market the numbers anyway.Different TF measurements due to different architectures.
GCN TF vs RDNA2 TF and why TF was not the best comparison for the new consoles.
I don't have the exact numbers but 1 TF RDNA 2 is roughly 1.6TF GCN, someone will correct me for sure on this.
If so it would be 112 GB/s not 56 GB/s.Are you sure about the 4GB chip?
I would guess there are 2 1GB chips on the back of the board.

An interesting way to let the buyer see that the physical format is coming to an end.
I think the bandwidth will be a real concern. I always said the bandwidth advantage is a bigger thing than the difference in teraflops. I definitely foresee sub-1080p resolutions being commonplace with this, Though if you're not too bothered by that, it's still a good price.
Wait, so we've seen more running on the ugly stepchild than we have on the Series X?some 120fps gears 5 was shown running on series S

also, dirt 5, valhalla, watch dogs legion, outriders, yakuza like a dragon, call of sea, the medium and tetris connected shown running on series s.
Remedy developer sounds mixed on the S.... hmm
".1" - the point is the clue^^Jesus fuc**ing Christ, '1 GHz'? It's 100MHz, you dumb ass!!
Yeah even as a PS4 Pro owner, and I love my PS4... the Series S would out perform the PS4 Pro anyday across all games.I understand now why MS won't talk about XSS teraflops... It's a mirror of a PS4 Pro with ~4TF and ~220GB/s bandwidth. So much for the teraflops.
(I know the architectures are different)
The memory setup 224GB/s for 8GB + 56GB/s for 2GB makes additional memory chip on back impossible. Are you sure about the 4GB chip?
I would guess there are 2 1GB chips on the back of the board.

Would add too much cost to do that complicated set up.Each on a 16bit channel? Or a 64bit bus with chips running at half speed?
He actually never worked in games.but but but................. fud gavin

I agree with you, that's the reason why they only covered the CPU part of XSS and not the GPU. It would render the TF narrative, that they have been pushing so far useless.I know that, but that was never a problem for MS marketing. They know TFs aren't the same, even between 2 custom RDNA 2 GPUs but they choose to market the numbers anyway.
The reason all this got revealed this week is BECAUSE of bad management at Xbox lol. Xbox Series S got leaked overnight, and then Windows Central reported on the price and release date for both consoles hours after the leak. Management/marketing-wise, it's been a mess at Xbox so far, not PlayStation.Microsoft just announced all the details about their next-gen consoles before Sony. That's not an opinion dude. Sony management has been a mess from the start of this it's nothing new. Not surprising key people left. Yes no doubt about PS Studios to deliver great games but management wise this has been a disaster.
Its almost worse than ps4 pro ram wise and this is for 2020![]()
Please tell me the OS will use the slower part of the memory, just so I can still have a little faith for multi-platform games...
"IF" they do not buy it, they will also know. That's "IF" buyers actually buy the XSS.
Except now the baseline for next gen games is almost the same amount of RAM as current gen.Not a real problem considering it's a much smaller GPU.
GDDR6 are two 16bits buses (32bits combined)... it is one of the biggest difference compared with GDDR5 that has a single 32bits.Each on a 16bit channel? Or a 64bit bus with chips running at half speed?
Oh, boy, if Sony is going full 'Andrew House' later the internet will crash. So there is another GAME store who is saying on Facebook that there will be an announcement tonight for the PS5.

I'm quite certain it will. That does mean the UI on the S will be much slower then the X. But I guess that's a given if you consider the $299 price tag.![]()

Developers who aren't interested in pushing the boundaries, and are content to produce bog standard games designed to generate ongoing income, will be fine with programming for the Series S.
Developers who want to be creative and make games that do push the boundaries... will all head to Playstation.

I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic? He actually never worked in games.
Basically spread FUD everywhere.
Including here in GAF (he tried to change the name to get more credibility with the fake company but it didn't work).
Thanks, just saw the '.' now(aging sucks). Good to know not even Tom would be such a lame being.Tom Warren is sometimes an idiot, but .1 Ghz = 0.1 Ghz = 100 Mhz. It is common to write 1/10th as .1 at least were I am from.

There is no 64bits bus.
The unusual memory setup done MS could not have worked with GDDR5 or GDDR5x.
I think you misread, did you miss the dot, the point, he wrote .1GHZ which is 100Mhz...Jesus fuc**ing Christ, '1 GHz'? It's 100MHz, you dumb ass!!
That is actually true... he never made any game and his company name was created just to try to say he knows things.I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic?
I understand that and I'm not saying the XSS won't deliver, I'm saying that MS is not taking the TF marketing path because they know it's a mirror of PS4 Pro numbers.Yeah even as a PS4 Pro owner, and I love my PS4... the Series S would out perform the PS4 Pro anyday across all games.
It has a much much better CPU, a much faster I/O, better GPU architecture, RT, much faster GPU, same memory basically (sorta odd bandwidth but thats fine I guess.)
Only issue with the S is its relative weakness compared to the big boys.
Its not the GPU, its the lack of 16 GB of memory as the baseline for next gen games.
And the 512 GB SSD is not enough storage for a next gen console.
If Xbox was smart they'd offer a sku with a 1 TB.
Let's say you already own an Xbox and have plenty of controllers.
Offer the Series S with 1 TB but no controller for like $350. I bet many would pick that.
