Yeah i think some poeple need to watch the Phil interview with CNBC, he pretty much said they will honour the constarcts they have with PS5 but Bethesda has been bought for 'the Xbox community' going forward.

He's doing that by having all their games day one on game pass

It sounds like Zenimax is being treated as its own subsidiary separate from Xbox Game Studios, so it's still up in the air

Interesting. Lets see how MS will fare with their approach. Netflix of gaming could be nice but I don't see how that can be profitable. You have to give people an incentive to stay subscribed. A game that is in developement for multiple years and people can just subscribe for a month and play it for 10 bucks? Makes no sense. A lot of things about to change in the gaming space

MS is bragging 15 million subscribers. But how many of those are actually regular paying subscribers? It's different how we consume games from shows and movies. A single free-to-play game alone can hook a gamer out of game pass.

Reason to comment? I mean why Sony needs to comment in others acquisitions? It is unrelated to them.

Well, in case stock value goes down...

"We expect no changes to our current commitments with Zenimax-owned exclusives.
As the market leader, we remain committed to provide the best AAA gaming experiences on console"

because yours is limited to binary one probably
did ms said it's the end of physical / digital copies ?
there are lot of different poeple with different tastes and context to want a specific game.
I think you failed to see my point yet again. I'll try one last time.
I don't see a reason to do it, of course there will be people that will ending up buying the thing.
Out of a 100, how many people will actually buy it, instead of subscribing to gamepass for a month to play it?
And I'm not considering the current subscribers. It will be for sure a lot less than 100M+ potential customers on PS side.

Will the game sell 100M+ copies? Obviously not.

But as publisher, you'll want to either have the money upfront, to keep it exclusive to a platform or to reach as many people as you can.

Im not pissed at all. I just dont follow this mentality and mental gymnastics people do to justify it to themselves. Most arguments stem from games have never been cheaper due to inflation which is true with about ******* after the statement.

The 70 price tag isn't going to magically fix all of these issues that publishers and developers complain about either if you are using the inflation argument because its still not even close to what they "should" cost with that logic in mind.

What will be the excuse now that games will continue to have MTX and be built as a GAAS?
Do you see any of what I said as mental gymnastics?
If you do, I'm sorry and I'll keep my replies to a minimum, as I surely don't want to be associated with a certain shark. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Well i'm on about the part after, the fact that he says once those contracts have been honoured, Bethesda has been bought for the Xbox community and now they have 23 studios that will be producing games for Xbox.
You dont need to be a pshychologist to get what he's saying here.
He's leaving it open...

I am gonna be honest, I thought MS would have purchased Bethesda years ago because they usually fit well together. Anyways great get for MS but, it will be a couple of years to see what they churn out for next gen.
Also I have a beefy PC so, I still see no reason in getting an Xbox.

power move. i wish, Sony would have the guts to do the same. they have plenty of money to do something similar. lets see what future holds.
never was a fan of timed exclusivity, Sony better spend those money on buying some good studios like m$ did here. f epic staff. it is ground breaking really in gaming world.

did you missed the part that, from now on, they are first party studios.
if yes, be consistent and go ask that from sony too....
i'm with you !

Maybe mental gymnastics is a bit harsh as thats usually associated with someone who is dissociated with reality a bit. I meant it more in that people are listening to publishers statements that contradict each other all the time.

This "development costs have ballooned like crazy," and "games are more expensive to make than ever," might be factual but they don't look at the reasons behind it while also looking at what the publisher is stating in their financials. Theres a disconnect and I attribute it to the fact that most people will say, eh ok whatever and throw the extra $10 down. Thats just the free market.

But that doesn't mean people should just take it lying down. They should be asking questions.

Playstation need to keep their heads down and continue producing benchmark graphics like this. Cannot get enough of this trailer! And this is the performance mode, we have yet to see this game in fidelity mode.

Microsoft have acquired Bethesda, this is HUGE!!

I do not know what Sony will do, Microsoft now has more games and more studios than Sony, and they have BANGER HUGE exclusives, not just smaller games.

This is how you flip the roof on the competition LOL!!
crazy thing is also that Microsoft is releasing more exclusive games this year on PS5 than they do on xbox seriesX/ haha

MS have been deliberately very ambiguous on exclusivity. If they were certain about it, they'd be shouting about exclusivity from the rooftops but so far they have been quite vague. I think they are waiting to see how the gen plays out. It's no good dropping 7.5 billion on a company just to delete more than a third of the company's revenue just like that. MS may be rich but they still answer to their shareholders. It all depends on how intensely MS wishes to go in on Game Pass.

It's also worth noting that nothing is finalised yet and allowing Bethesda to make some multiplatform games could be one of the deal breakers (as many studio bonuses are tied to sales). I don't think that is too likely but it's just one of the many potential factors in play here.

I think this is dead on. I think LONG term, they'd like GamePass and other offerings to expand enough to where they can make more or all titles exclusive and make enough $$ to be profitable. For now...short and mid term, I expect them to try to sell as much as they can, which probably means multi-platform. Now, if the XSX and XSS take off like gangbusters and alter their standing in the industry, that could all change sooner. But I think for now it will be the same as usual. In fact, if they don't do REALLY WELL with XSS and XSX they will NEED that multi-platform revenue.

But we'll see...

Minecraft called and claimed "money is money".
Minecraft has a completely different public (kids), install base (200 million people) and economic model (microtransaction fest). Minecraft grosses billions on its own while costing them nothing for development and maintenance, no individual Bethesda game is even close to being such a guaranteed moneymaker.

Sony doesn't have that amount of money. You don't spend a third of your cash on just 1 gaming studio...

He does say it -

Spencer said in an interview. Future games, like Starfield, will be available for Xbox, PC and Microsoft's Game Pass video-game service. "We'll take other consoles on a case-by-case basis," Spencer said.

It doesnt sound very convincing to me though. Why some and not all?. It sounds more to me that the bigger games, the Fallouts and Elder Scrolls, Dooms, games seen as potential system movers, would be kept for Xbox, and smaller games released for other systems.
Hell they may be talking about Switch only to be honest.

The way Sony should counter this is not also to buy an expensive studio. They should continue to be ambitious with their games. Expand studios and work on multiple projects while maintaining the quality.

I'm only really bummed about Starfield. Although that game could turn out mediocre for all we know, we haven't seen a single gameplay from that game. I'm really hoping that the space game from Japan Studio is true, also that space game from Naughty Dog.

LOL @ the bottom of the XSX stand.

Microsoft hates money.

By saying they bought Bethesda for the Xbox community going forward?
Its the hope that kills you.
Hope? I've played one of their games in last 6 years...I could care less. Microsoft isn't taking a 7 billion dollar haircut to reduce the market for the multi-plats over 50 percent. The decision hasn't been made otherwise we would hear definitive close-ended statements on the Xbox exclusivity.

It's just PR at the end of the day

He's not going to guarantee anything outside of their own ecosystem

I doubt it'd just be switch though if they do.

Something I don't really get, though ...

Why did MS made Obsidian make a Skyrim-esque game since they intended to buy the guys who made *the* Skyrim? Either those two games (Avowed, ES VI) are going to be years apart, or MS wishes to 'flood' the market with western RPGs. They seem to focus a lot on western RPGs. Which is amazing, tbh.

It's funny how we are constantly told how this forum is full of Sony fanboys. Microsoft buys a studio and all the Xbox fanboys are uniting and making stupid threads again.

Sony doesn't have that amount of money. You don't spend a third of your cash on just 1 gaming studio...
so they don't have that kind of money, yet it is third of their cash? very logical sentences :messenger_tears_of_joy:
they could easily buy zenimax.

and it is not 1 gaming studio. it is 8, and most important, is those studio's IPs.

this is massive in gaming world actually.

At this point making actual boxes must be the least profitable thing they do. Honestly, the boy itself is basically limiting what they can do with gamepass. I mean people have to buy the box and MS isnt even making money from that (at best they are selling the consoles at a slight loss right now). And the money the consumers spend on the console isnt spend on gamepass. Would be much better if they could just get rid of the box and offer gamepass on everything. TV's phones, Nintendo and Playstation consoles.

I really dont see them making another box...

Wasn't there a thread about the rumour of Sony buying them? Would love to see if there was any anti-consumer comments in that thread.
