The PS4 OS uses GB fyi, not GiB when you look up storage in settings. It would be more reserved on PS5 than is on PS4, not less.

Users never see the storage in GiB thats why game discs are 50 or now 100 GB and the drives are 500, 825, 1000 GB. Not GiB.

The stock PS4 500 GB HDD has 410 usable, and the stock 1 TB HDD has 870 usable.
The PS5 would use more for OS if its 664 out of 825.

The PS5 is clearly reserving more than the PS4. My reply was to the concern of it "only reserving 100GB" and the worry that the PS4 was more and the PS5 OS would be stripped down (just like the PS4 was at launch).

In terms of the PS4 displaying actual GB (not GiB) values in the Storage settings, do you have a source for this? FreeBSD (which the PS4 OS is based on), just like in Windows, actually displays storage space as GiB values, but appends GB to the numerical value (it is GiB).

So it isn't a cake?

looks like they are all in the similar rooms not at home. probabily controlled environment?

Well if it's the actual retail console they can tell us about the OS and how quiet it runs. It's not like they are going to play PS5 games without the retail console in their sight or anything. So it will definitely be a real experience for them.

These two images come from two different youtubers if I'm not mistaken. I think they are all using the same system in the same location.

To be fair, Halo supposed to work on the freaking XBO. You can't compare it with PS5 exclusive games. I mean PS Studios games are going to beat whatever Microsoft come up with in the graphics department but at least we have to wait for an XSX exclusive to make it a fair fight.
True, these are also supposed to work on PS4:

Just test it yourself. Pretty obvious.

The storage in the PS4 OS will go from 999 MB to 1 GB. So its GB, 1000 MB = 1 GB.

If it used GiB it would show 1023 MB then go to 1 GB. 1024 MiB = 1 GiB.

This is the partition layout for a drive from the PS4. Again, as this is Windows, it uses GiB for the number but labels them as GB. It's a total of 466 GiB (so 500GB).

Now, the user space which is what shows up in the storage settings on the PS4 is the 420 GiB partition. Just like my PS4pro, it displays this as 419.4GB, but this is 419.4GiB.

So, the values shown in the PS4 UI are clearly GiB but labelled as GB, just like FreeBSD, and Windows.

lets wait the deep analisys. lol

I think we already had one of the gameplay trailer.

And we had comparisons to the original as well.

Edit: Here's the Digital Foundry analysis.

Edit 2: And proof that it was captured on PS5 same with Ratchet.

I less you can proof that somehow Sony faked the footage.

Odd there was no user login though?

And how the heck did it jump directly without login? Anyway, boot up isn't important, 20 or whatever. What's critical is game streaming speed and loading. Tomorrow many questions will be answered, it'll be a "gamechanger".

Depending on settings, Xbox consoles will automatically login without having to pop up a login screen. The current dash does that and the current dash will be the Series X one.

XBX boots right to the home menu with an autologin in the background. There are like 60 of these consoles out there with press don't you think one of them would have called BS on it considering they have all tried a cold boot????

Unless you think they are all in on the conspiracy?

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but there is a certain logic to those upward pointed connectors. They are angled upwards, so that when the panel is on the console, the weight of the console supports those connections, when the console is in the tower position. Less so, when lying flat.

Also, I believe this panel should be somewhat easy to remove, and will give access to the SSD expansion port, since no slot has been found on the external areas of the case.

It looks much better there than in the FCC pictures. Not sure why that is though. But I do agree that it's big but as long as it does it job I dont really mind the size. Unless I need a forklift to move it around that is.
Being a photographer, I'd have to say that it's a lot to do with the focal length and poor lighting we've seen with most of the leaks. When you shoot something up close with the wide angle of your phone, it distorts and messes with the shapes. PS5 has a lot of curves, so the distortion is gonna be magnified. Whereas in this photo, it's at a further distance away so the distortion isn't bad because it's in the middle of the frame and the lighting is good.

Kraken is 10-50% better in games size compression, and 300% (4x times) faster than ZLIB in decompression and sending them to RAM/CPU/GPU. So the delta of speed extends into Kraken vs ZLIB.

So you either get 10-50% smaller games on PS5 than XSX, or you have much, much higher quality assets for PS5 for the same size.

EDIT: And that's all software, not with kraken HW acceleration on PS5.

Brother BO straight out of jail into the action like

That didn't show anything, sorry. You posted a Windows screenshot not the PS4 OS. No worries.
? It's the PS4 drive plugged into windows to show the partition layout. The partition of 420GiB is the user partition for the PS4. As I mentioned, my PS4pro shows a user partition of 419.4 GB (which is 419.4 GiB), matching the partition in the Windows screenshot.

If the PS4 was really showing 419.4GB (as is real GB), then that should show up as a 391GiB Partition when the drive is mounted in Windows.

How fast are the black panels going to sell out when they go on the market, eh?

Another excellent point! Never thought of that, and might myself consider "UPGRADING" those panels at some point.

Or maybe I might get naughty and go panel-less. PS5 in the raw!

And what difference it makes if they are playing in a retail unit?

I wanted to make a joke post in response about how the PS5 unit is fake, and everything is running on PC. But it seems like somebody was faster..

Kind of weird that this is all in a controlled environment with people wearing masks... look at the tables they have wires going down into the tables to give the appearance of being plugged in. Reminds me of e3 when companies have a console or controller above but an actual pc hidden inside the table. I wonder if thats whats going on here. I mean why not just ship these to peoples houses like Microsoft? This setup seems kind of fishy to me...

Tomorrow gonna be a glorious day!

Not tomorrow maybe (astrobot only?), but throughout the week hopefully we get to see more.

Looks like i was wrong. this event ends tomorrow, started the 24th in Japan.

From September 24th to Sunday, October 4th, the YouTube-sponsored game festival "YouTube Gaming Week" will be held.

You seem to be confused. The user using the PS4 in the PS4 OS only sees base 10 GB. Not base 2 as in GiB. I'm not talking about how the system counts the bytes in the background.

Use your PS4. I just did. I had 998 MB of themes. I downloaded a 15 MB theme. Thats 1013 MB. But It says 1.02 GB on my PS4 not 1013 MB (because it rounds up also).

Thats base 10. Its what the user sees in the OS. 1020 MB = 1.02 GB not 1.02 GiB. 1020 MB = 0.996 GiB.
