XSX unboxing experience and quality of materials used is miles ahead of PS5.
Like i said before, apparently every design decision on the ps5 seems to point in the direction of being able to mass produce as much as possible. And frankly, by early reports of pre-orders avaiblity, it seems to be paying off.

XBox has a lot of plastic foam in it, and a lot more packaging in general.

I think it's ridiculous you are actually trying to defend this. Instead of just saying, yeah the packaging is pretty shit for such a premium product. But you still have to pay Live to play it and at least Gamepass to get the full game. So in the end you are paying 5 bucks for a paint job.
The whole packaging by Sony, being with minimal ink, is simply more reciclable. Actually most of it I could put it in my garden compost.

How so? Using styrofoam? From what i see the box is pretty much cardboard, and thats great for its footprint.
Remember you have to make a box strong enough to withstand load of dozens of piled boxes and withstand impact for shipping.
When you have to ship millions of units, every aditional square inch or weight is a huge cost... i dont think sony engineers made those boxes bigger or heavier than they have to be.

Well yeah... Just because you have a picture that spreads it out like that doesn't mean it's not premium. Everything has its exact place, cut out properly. So that when you open it, you have the experience of a premium product. I know it will be thrown away in 5min, and it has nothing to do with the console itself. I think it's just weird Sony didn't put more time in this, when they are claiming how premium their console is. Is that so bad to say? Again it has nothing to do with the console itself.

I'd say you can get your premium Xbox packaging, which is the only thing you can cling on to, and playstation buyers can get their multiple GOTY contender experience. I'm sure looking at a box is much better than using a console to play.

I get why people like packaging and presentation to be on point. It's always nice when a company goes the extra mile to make even the unboxing an experience. In the end though....that excitement wears off in 5 seconds, and all I want is what is inside the box. People are putting too much thought into this. If the PS5 arrives with everything it's supposed to and safe, then who cares what the box is like? You're not going to care about the box 10 minutes later when you're playing games.

So if it's a white box, no visuals, it just says PS5 in comic sans on it, and inside the power cable is unwind basically just thrown in, console also just lays in there and the controller is wrapped in newspaper. This is also fine? We'll just pretend that packaging doesn't matter anymore.

I never did. I even said myself that there aren't any next-gen launch games. I still have a backlog so no big issue for me, but yeah for people that wanted something new, the launch line up is pretty shit.
