Cant people just review stuff as consoles, instead of always trying to review them through the eyes of a pc.

Xbox Series X verdict
The Xbox Series X is a tough one to review as a PC gamer, especially one coming off the back of testing a host of new Nvidia graphics cards. But there is some equivalence there. This machine isn't really representative of a new generation of consoles, it's actually far more like dropping a new graphics card into your PC.

The one-size-fits-all, just-play-your-games approach has vanished
Your existing games library still works, but suddenly performs better, you now have access to graphical features your old hardware might not have afforded you in new games, but otherwise it's essentially the same experience, only better. That's maybe a little unfair given the difference the SSD and supporting Zen 2 CPU cores make—the One X showed the limitations of simply bumping up the GPU power—but as a PC gamer using the Series X feels like an upgrade more than a whole new world of gaming.

Around launch there will be some titles arriving to use the power available to the Series X, and down the line developers will squeeze more and more impressive things out of the system. But, given that everything coming to the Series X game-wise will also be hitting the PC, it's tough to make the call that it's a worthwhile TV-based companion to your gaming rig right now.

I picked up an Xbox 360 back in the day, despite having a powerful gaming PC, simply because there were game experiences I had to have that were only available on the console. With Microsoft making Windows and Xbox practically the same platform that's not a pull anymore.

Even the PS5, which actually does have some first-party exclusives, isn't really tempting me away from the PC. Couple that with the fact that the thing which made console gaming stand apart from the PC, the one-size-fits-all, just-play-your-games approach has vanished, and you're not really getting an easier ride opting for the console.

If you're a PC gamer, with a system from the last five years or so, I simply can't recommend the Xbox Series X as a viable purchase, whether as a replacement or secondary machine. The new consoles are coming at a point where the PC is getting a whole new step change in hardware—so take that $500 and drop it on an RTX 3070 instead. Well, if you can find one...

"With the number of total synchronous online players in an instance increased to six, standing out will mean so much more."

As someone who never played the original, I'm not sure what this means. Can anyone elaborate? Multiple invaders, multiple people helping you, or what?

all that controller talk reminded me about six axis and ds4 touchpad, it all was so exciting...at the beginning, and we all know how it ended, so widely used...

I don't think the touchpad is a good comparison to haptics.

The big difference is that there is no question of what to do with haptics on a game by game basis as opposed to how to incorporate the touchpad.

The touch pad being an entirely extra input mechanism, required a lot of additional thought around how it could be implemented into each game. For multi platform games you could not create a mechanic that relied solely on the touch pad so it ended up becoming a map or menu button in most if not all of the 3rd party games I played, while first party could get much more creative and purposeful with its usage.

Haptics on the other hand is the evolution of a function already supported in all multi-platform games. So at the bare minimum 3rd parties need to feed the already existing audio effect to the voice coil actuators or if they want to take it further that will depend of course on both their ambition and ease of implementation.

Adaptive triggers I think will lie somewhere in between. In R&C I recall the example of depressing the trigger halfway to fire one shot of a double barrel shotgun for instance. That type of mechanism could not be replicated nearly as well on a different controller without the feed back of resistance changing halfway through the trigger press. The gun jamming example (I believe in Deathloop) could still work without the tactile feedback and would just rely on visual and auditory cues.

I don't know.

I really want PS5 being reviewed by PC gamers... more marketing to a bigger userbase.

Said that the article make good points.... you basically have a machine that plays old games with better performance like upgrading a GPU in PC.

yer its just the cost involved like they love to compare a $1500 dollar pc to a $500 dollar console.

All i want is Xbox vs ps5. mano a mano

Xbox Series X review

What's the point of reviewing a console. We were shown everything and people basically made their minds already.
The only hardware worth review are GPUs, CPUs, Cameras, TVs. That's because they include alot of comparisons with equivalent products and help you make your mind.

So basically good hardware but it lacks excitement and games. The expected then... glad the US media didn't wash it off because it's the truth.

Also it seems the share button doesn't work as well as on PS4, which is hilarious considering it's a 2020 console.

i see ign gave the new Xbox an 8/10 as a score, pretty much as what i was thinking.

The PlayStation with a vastly better controller, superior ssd and all the other goodies + games on release should pretty much make it a perfect 10.

The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S introduce superb quality-of-life improvements like Quick Resume and the reduced load times over Xbox One or even Xbox One X, but don't expect a markedly different or revolutionary leap forward when you first power on the system. If you're simply looking for the best place to play your library of past, present, and future Xbox games, look no further than Xbox Series X/S.

Great launch in an industry that rarely has great launches. Sony took the "I'll wait for games/issues/whatever excuse to buy" out of the equation by innovating and pushing the industry to where it needs to go. I can't see how you can love games and or tech and not want to at least experience what they have to offer.

PCgamer review is completely out of context, really.
"Just buy a PC". They will never get it.
I own consoles and high end PC, and I manage to appreciate each one for what it's worth.
And these new consoles are amazing.

Maybe UE5 tech-demo was already using GE. 16 billion triangles in 500 statues. Probably they made a fine-grained culling geometry process.

Well they did use Primitive Shaders (compute shaders) for the UE5 demo which are handled by the Geometry Engine.

Because not only is the immediate proof that Devs are indeed supporting the features, more importantly, they are excited for it and that excitement has extended itself to everyone who got their hands on it. Following the same logic no 3rd party would ever perform different or look different, because....

You are hoping for something, and what you're hoping for makes you look like a sore fanboy.

never played it but does look nice and smooth.
My most played game until Destiny.

It is F2P and very fun... become repetitive fast and has some weird issues with shooting and gameplay in general.
Tons of regular updates.

But take in mind that I did not play it anymore after Destiny... so they could had fixed the gameplay hit collisions... plus for being F2P I had tons of fun.

Edit - I forget to say... the framerate in PS4 was atrocious when have more than 5 enemies on screen... some Void missions you basically played in slowmo :D and teleport happened all the time lol

Then you may want to look back again at the thread because I was basically agreeing with our own geordiemp geordiemp you probably misquoted me instead of someone else.
I was just joking about everyone saying they are a dev.
Then explain that most people here myself included have no idea how those studios are managed......
Not that much fanbyism there.Especially when I'm really excited about the dualsense features.

Then I misquoted you good sir, and I apologize for saying the things I did and hope you can look past this embarrassing moment of mine.
