You are so cute fishy! What the heck is a flee-pit? Am I fleeing from a PS5 with coil whine to one without? I would love that! I hope Sony does right by me. Again I don't have a side I have every console which I'm sure all you guys speaking about the Xbox have as well. Why would anyone talk about a system they don't own and don't like?

Here is ONE video of many talking about PS5 coil whine. It is not some sort of Xbox fan conspiracy. You can't blame this on Colt, Dealer or Phil Spencer.

I had to "squint" my ears (is that a thing?) to get anything out of it :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Must be a big problem for those using the ps5 as a boombox on their shoulder cause that's the only way you can hear something lol

Resident Evil Village for a next gen game has been showcased pretty poorly so far. Do u guys think it'll at least not run 25fps anymore Thursday like it did in the reveal?

Apparently we've discovered a lycan underworld. They're sensitive to dog whistles and coil whine. All of them have every console ever manufactured and sick ht and atmos tooCrazy

I 'd seen that video before, but only just noticed that the hdmi cables in shot are the likely cause of the problem.

High quality hdmi cables would be far more rigid at those lengths than seen, and the braiding certainly would have the first few inches of cabling at the PS5 hdmi socket as a straight line or single direction shallow arc at worst - the crinkled cabling in shot just wouldn't be making life easy on either hdmi chip in the PS5 or TV given the data they are carrying.

The first of the hdmi cables, loops within a small area/tight arc, too and at the overlap has the cable shields touching - and despite all cables in optimal conditions of use being equally capable - a cable in curved use and poorly shielded working at very high bandwidth in game, overlapping itself could certainly cause issues the person is trying to capture.

When he went behind the back to the TV there was only one plug socket with a extension shown - seems a bit unfair to test without giving the consoles a separate wall socket IMO - especially as the tv cabinet looks like it houses a lot of equipment on those shelves, possibly overloading the single wall socket. Just between the console and TV the socket is probably delivering 500watts, and it looked like a soundbar is under the TV too, which could easily be another 200watts - excluding a sub and anything else connected.

PS5 vs XBox x|s conversation is ridiculous.
There is only one feature that defines a true next-gen console:

Can

It

Fucking

Play

MGS3?

Here u go, I have ended console wars.
No need to thank.

I brought this up to hostile_18 in the coil whine thread but he said it didn't change anything. I use a power conditioner and all good here. A lot of times surge protectors aren't actually doing anything and are really just multi extension cables.

Wow, your history seems to have done you no favours today.. can arguably come to the conclusion that it's totally exposed you.

I don't think anyone wants to see a big contributor to the site humiliated, I feel bad for you dude, live and learn, you can only get stronger from your mistakes. I'm sure you can come back from this :messenger_bicep:

I have 2 PS5's and never noticed coil whine on either.

I'm not trying to listen for it though; fuck that.. if it is happening and I notice it I'll never un-hear it lol

How far away do you sit from your consoles?
I game on a monitor so the one I use is like 4 feet from my head. (digital edition) For the first week I had it it was more like 2 feet.

The other PS5 is in our living room and we sit like 12 feet from it so probably wouldn't notice it either way.

Regarding the coil whine on ps5, my unit does it too, but only when my room is at night and extremely quiet. Also it varies depending on the game. So far, i heard the loudest when playing AC: valhala. Spider-Man MM on RT performance mode is much quieter than AC:V and it looks miles better. Demon's Souls is the same lvl of quietness as Spider-Man mm RT performance mode. Spider-Man Quality mode is the most quiet out of all. I'm just wondering why AC:V looks the worst out of all visually and also the loudest, anyone have any idea on why is this happening?

Exposed me as what a multi-console gamer? Guilty as charged. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Hmmm.. interesting.

I played a bit of Demon Soul's, a ton of Spiderman Remastered, and a bunch of Day's Gone.

Hope I don't hear shit if I play some other game lol

Destiny 2 PS5 version caused the loudest buzzing from my system. PS4 games and some 30 fps PS5 games caused less noise. It has to do with the fluctuating power draw in the PSU.

Honestly, it doesn't really bother me, i can only hear the very slightly buzzing when playing AC:V at night and my room has all the doors and windows are shut. All other games has been extremely quiet, only hear when i put my ears next to the PS5. Those who saying they can hear across the room are either lying or they got defective one. My wife sleep in the room, next to my gaming room and she sleeps so soundly then when i asked her, she said its very quiet in her room.

Well coil whine is a variable thing.

It can also get better and worse over time.

Had a GPU with it, I forget which one (780?).. others with the same model had wide variations, and mine was terrible.

Correct. The fans don't change speeds either.
That's not true.

It does change, variable from game to game. Eg, my ps5 run hotter when playing AC:V vs Spider-Man MM. The fan speed are also different, i use torch lights to poke inside ps5 and see the fan's RPM, the fan definitely spins faster when playing AC:V. My guess is that AC :V is the Cerny's worst game for PS5, it's consuming lots of power, it might be even running at lower clocks.
Just my opinion.

i cant hear shit when standing at ear level at my ps5 let alone hear it over my black sharks while in game. anything is better than the PS4jETENGINEpro and PSaFTERBURNER3
Maybe you're luckier than me, lol, anyway i love my ps5, yea it's like a blissful heaven when comparing to my jet fucking engine PS4 pro. Now i can play all my games peacefully and quietly.

I've seen the videos on YouTube and from what I've seen coil whine is only recorded when the microphone is right next to the console. I haven't seen any recordings of coil whine when the microphone is really far away.

Here is me, it's mostly concern trolls. Within 1 meter if your room is super quiet, no AC, no TV sound nor headset (which is extremely weird) you can hear it and it's pretty low:

It's unlisted because gaming isn't supposed to be on my channel. They requested it and yet they pegged back when asked to make videos themselves. Mic actually catches more than what you can hear in person.

Ive seen other videos that are like yours. Basically they don't pick up the sound unless the microphone is really close to the system. If my PS5 is like they it won't bother me at all.

Then there's this.

I personally don't hear anything unless I shut down the AC like in the video, have zero volume, get close to the system. Why the fuck would a gamer do that unless he has some sort of a disorder? Also I play with headsets so can barely hear my wife calling me. :messenger_tears_of_joy: If I scratch my beard it'll make far more noise than that in the video.

I guess it depends on each person's PSt and their ability to hear it. But if they can't hear it while gaming normally then I really don't see an issue.

Weird considering how it's running the game compared to the XSX. Performance should be a lot worse if it's dropping the clocks.
That's where PS5 architecture is so confusing. Spider-Man MM running with native 4K RT reflections 30fps with improved lighting, the graphics looks so demanding, it should make the PS5 down to its knee, don't you agree? When playing that game on my PS5 runs cool and quietly.
On the other hand, AC:V, basically it's ps4 game with PS5 tag on it. No RT, graphics looks not much better than AC : odyssey. Running sub 1440p DRS with 60 fps. That game makes my ps5 loudest and hottest. Visually less demanding game draws so much power.
What do you think?
I can't wait for the next Road to PS5 like the one they have previously for PS4. I want to know more about the PS5 Apu.

Wow, that's nasty PS4, my OG ps4 doesn't sound like that but my ps4 pro does. My ps5 pretty much sound the same as in the video. Though for only ACV its slightly louder.

Same Bo, mine does exactly sound like yours in the video, when my room is extremely quiet and sit very near. That's the loudest when playing that game. Other games doesn't loud as much.

That's not true.

That's via future firmware updates. The fans only need to turn based on the heat it produces which is constant.

Fan speeds shouldn't need to change as the heat is constant. Perhaps that game has a bug in the code forcing it to spin faster than normal? I don't have that game.

The heat is not constant though...

Fan speeds change.. read the article I linked you to. The system even is tracking heat/speed per game and they are going to make per-game updates to the fan speed logic.

Ah, figured it was constant based on all games not per game. Looking back it appears Sony didn't get to that granular level of detail.
According to Sony, all PS5 consoles process the same workloads with the same performance level in any environment, no matter what the ambient temperature may be.

So how does boost work in this case? Put simply, the PlayStation 5 is given a set power budget tied to the thermal limits of the cooling assembly. "It's a completely different paradigm," says Cerny. "Rather than running at constant frequency and letting the power vary based on the workload, we run at essentially constant power and let the frequency vary based on the workload."

Ah, figured it was constant based on all games not per game. Looking back it appears Sony didn't get to that granular level of detail.

That's just referring to how most "dynamic frequency" systems (as opposed to fixed clocks) vary their frequency based on heat. A PC GPU w/ boost clocks for instance won't boost as much in a hot room as it will in a cold room.

The PS5 modifies it's frequency based on workload, ignoring the temperature of the system. It will however run it's fans higher/lower depending on if the room is hot or cold.

It's designed to do this within a reasonable ambient temperature range; just like any fixed-clock console in the past.

What is PST? My hearing is pretty healthy actually and my ears are trained as well for the slightest sounds as that could be a matter of life or death in the wild by a nasty snake. From 2 meters you can barely hear a thing, with everything shut down in the room and no volume, but some of course may have it louder.

That's where PS5 architecture is so confusing. Spider-Man MM running with native 4K RT reflections 30fps with improved lighting, the graphics looks so demanding, it should make the PS5 down to its knee, don't you agree? When playing that game on my PS5 runs cool and quietly.

Yeah that tone of what is called coil whine isn't present in some games, found it with WDL and ACV but didn't test each game. Fan is barely spinning because the console has enough room also my room is always air-conditioned between 18-25C.

Maybe it's like those high pitched ring tones only zoomers can hear.

Yeah tried those so called ring tones and I can pic them up. Glad my ears are still healthy as I've been using headphones/headsets only on PS and PC since 2007, even for watching movies/netflix.

Same Bo, mine does exactly sound like yours in the video, when my room is extremely quiet and sit very near. That's the loudest when playing that game. Other games doesn't loud as much.

Yeah you can only hear it without a headset or with zero TV volume. Why would anyone play like that is beyond me, and even though it's pretty low sound. Some might have it loud, that's different. I turned off the AC for that test, but seems split unit AC isn't the norm worldwide anyway.

Yeah even once was playing with no AC, showering the baby so coming out the room should be warm, and the sound didn't change even after like 30 minutes or so while been playing for like 6-8 hours before. Room was probably around 28C, I think. Bugs and shit programming could draw more heat even with fixed wattage budget.

Doesn't really make sense does it.

Just like the rest of your silly comments and trigger finger on the 'triggered' emoji.

Maybe a grownup baby?
