Thats what happens when someone takes something too close to heart. When it comes admitting defeat, it's like a vampire just got a giant Home Depot 2x4 drilled into their aorta.

Family and friends? Makes sense to be close.

A video game message board? Political party? PM or President? Who cares. Flip flop between sites or whichever candidate is best. Hell, it's not like users own the site or personally know the politician as a next door neighbour.

On what basis. Did you already formerly ask to have your data removed and no one replied with in the statutorily prescribed time? Usually they have what 10 days or 2 weeks to reply IIRC.

I asked to have my account wiped after I was banned from there (this was a while ago), and they never responded, but when I later checked some of my posts they were by "Deleted user" or whatever. So I guess they did what I asked, but of course I have no way of knowing if they still have for example my email on file (and if MOBA now has it).

I migrated back here a few years ago. I was banned in both places NeoGAF as well as ResetEra from the leftie loonies.

Difference is, Era openly supported and promoted the harassment, deaths, and suicides of people. They actively engaged and pushed racist, transphobic, homophobic, bigotted statements. By openly continuing to use that site, they show that they don't care about any of that and thought it was OK to support a site that pushed it.

They deserve a second chance at redemption, maybe realize that they actively were being shitty people by using the site. However, trying to dismiss all that and act like it isn't a big deal? Blatantly being hypocritical and lying to "get in" with another community? Nah, fuck those kinds of people.

Re the GDPR stuff, isn't it where the data processing takes place that dictates what data legislation they have to adhere to? As the parent company is now registered in the EU, everyone (including non-EU/EEA citizens) should have the same protections.

No its actually regarding the data subject (so you). It depends on where you are located.

That is why some US websites for example dont work for Europeans now because technically the European website reader is a data subject even for an American company.

But yes in practice a European company will apply the same data policies to all the data they treat. But regardless even following GDPR they have access to all the data. How its managed from this point forward will be the new question.

Now you need to trust in the data security policies that company have… that is probably not that much different from the policies for data security ERA has.

And yes they can use that data for some things… for example for Business Intelligence for example… of course it is not difference of what ERA could do with the data anyway.

The big take is that the owner of the data changed and how much you trusted Resetera over MOBA.

Or course both can sell your data to the black market lol that is why trust is a key for data security… you need to trust who is holding your data.

If your service (or whatever) can be used by people in the EU you have to comply with GDPR, doesn't matter where the servers are. It's about where the user is. That's why a lot of US news sites don't even bother trying, but instead completely block people in the EU from accessing them.

Haha, yeah, just the fact that you IP is banned means they're in breach of GDPR, since they're not allowed to retain that data for longer than absolutely necessary for the operation of the business (and I don't think keeping you off the site would count).

I was pretty much the same. I did try and stick it out but GAF was pretty much dead for a long while there. Some of the most recent posts in the top threads would have the last post date as several days earlier. There was one other off-shoot forum created that I tried but it was also super low volume.
When I returned GAF had a strong right wing vibe, but it has mellowed a lot the last year or so. I'm still sad the politics forum got nuked, even if it was for the best overall.

GAF was receiving too much requests from outside to the point to the server get busy (not responding anymore).

Before I got permabanned for having an opinion during the Nepenthe - Morrigan trans scuffle that happened over discord about 6 months ago I was guzzling the koolaid. After lurking GAF-then-ERA for years and finally getting the chance to post, I made some great threads and funny observations over there, but getting permad was like getting kicked in the dick. Being welcomed back to GAF was definetly a win, this place is great, and I hope we get some good people that need that same win that I needed back then.

Its okay. I was a Ree member when that site just launched. GAF was on lockdown anyway. I however didn't account suicide like lots of other fools would do, since you never how Ree was going to pan out.

Ree started off... okay ish. All the good OT creators, insiders etc... they all migrated. They had the leaks, informative OT's etc, it was like it used to be here. But I was never as active on Ree as I was on here. It diminished after some weeks, perhaps months. Because I slowly started to notice that every thread would be hijacked, while I was there just to discuss games. That site started to piss me off more and more. I saw the dog piling and parotting and then it hit me; this is old GAF. They were the ones ruining the site, and not EviLore per say (perhaps for not silencing those, and for keeping some corrupted mods around). But at the same time, they do seem to be the ones with inside information and all. Its a sad state of affairs that so it seems lots of insiders, devs, writers etc are SJW cucks.

Should I've stuck around? I dunno. GAF wasn't all that hot when it imploded. But I should've known Ree would end up being what it is. Its those same prominent members running the show.

It was around that time that I became active on GAF. Near enough all the twats seemed to migrate to Era and you were free here to have an opinion. For me GAF improved overnight. Maybe there wasn't as much insider info and there wasn't as much activity but at least you could say what you wanted without being heckled for not echoing.
