Next XBOX announcement?

Ok, I haven't been keeping up on the next XBOX, but I have read that it will be released Q4 2005. I also know that if history repeats itself, that it will be revealed at the GDC. Do you guys think it will be up and running at E3? I really wanted to go this year. I work in TV and I think there's a way I can get in this year. I was hoping to see some next gen console stuff in May.

if history would be repeating itself, Xbox 2 would have been announced at GDC 2004 and the console would have been unveiled about a week ago.

I'd expect an announcement between now and GDC which starts march 7th. it will definitally be on display and playable at E3 if Microsoft intends on launching this fall. or very early next winter.

Exactly what kind of "newsguy" are you, then?

Lol, I work in television news, not online gaming news, or my name would be onlinevideogamemessageboardnewsguy. But thanks for your input.

my view.

no new hardware on show from Nintendo or Sony at E3. tech demo's and what not but those consoles are a good year off.

I expect MS to have the Xenon up and running behind closed doors at E3.

expect videos and some crap speech about XNA etc.... for us less informed.

Thanks. This is more along the lines of the response I was looking for. There are too many comedians on this board and not enough info sometimes. I would like to see it running some of the betas to get a feel for what the next gen consoles will be capable of.

I expect Xenon to show up in video form for the public, and playable behind closed doors. Specifically, versions of EA Sports games, and Epic's next generation project (they will most likely show this at GDC, at Tim Sweeny's conference,) and if we're lucky MS will be showing off Perfect Dark 0 as the launch killer app.

I don't expect playables from either PS3 or Revolution. I expect some information released on them, and some videos.

all the latest info from nintendo suggests that the revolution will be playable at e3. the latest egm interview with reggie for example, where he said they wanted to show the revolution at e3 this year the same way they showed the DS at e3 last year. that means playable demo's on the show floor, but only a few real games. i would be very surprised if that is not the case.

You're a "newsguy" and you're asking anonmous forum members who have no inside knowledge of what Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft are planning? I believe you're the comedian.

Doubt they'll show much. Maybe some information, but nothing on why the Revolution is a revolution. Why would they tell their competitors their secret weapon a year and a half before release date?

Xbox 2 will the main attraction at MS booth for E3. It will be playable, and not behind closed doors.
Contrary to Xbox launch where most titles had been in development for only 4 months at E3, a lot of games will have had more than one year since the first development kits had been released.
History will NOT repeated itself, and the Xbox 2 E3 games should be *much* better quality than the rather underwhelming games that were presented 4 years ago (even if they turned ok/great at launch).
I expect Sony to make some ludicrous announcements at E3 to try to steal the show.

it may not be a year and a half before the japan release. revolution in japan may release in early 06 or even earlier. if microsoft comes out hyping their console nintendo will be inclined to do the same (but sony probably won't care). iwata, reggie, and the rest of them keep saying "wait till e3 where everything about the revolution will be revealed". i expect at least as much of a showing for the revolution as we got for the psp at last years E3, and probably more like what we got for the DS. nintendo does not want people to think microsoft is the only one coming out with a next gen console.

Meh, I don't see it happening. Nintendo showed their analog stick off about 6 months before the N64 came out in Japan, and Sega copied it and beat it to the punch with Nights. If this revolution thing is as good as an idea as Nintendo thinks, it will be a huge mistake to show it off at E3 so early.

I'd predict they'll give some information, maybe give a general idea of what the Revolution is about, but not show it. Kinda like how they talked about the rumble pack, but no one really thought much about it until it got into some people's hands.

Wow, you're the second person who refers to my handle: "newsguy." Since when are people's handles in message boards the way to identify their position in the gaming industry? Should I assume that "God's Hand" is an up and coming development team in the works on yet another GTA clone? Or how about the User "Hand up a monkey's ass," is that person develping a 3rd party controller based on the revolution's new gyration controller that actually looks like a monkey's ass? So why then are you assuming that I am some sort of industry insider because my handle is "newsguy"? That could mean hundreds of different things, so get off my fucking case and either answer the question to the best of your knowledge "like some people have," or STFU.

Anyway, blimblim, I also think Sony will have something brewing to steal some of the thunder from MS.

Just a kind word of advice since you seem to be a bit more advanced in your thinking and typing than some of the other recent board additions.

Although this board is initially pretty hostile to newcomers (believe me, there is a good reason for that), I don't think newcomer behaviour adapted from O.Z. will get you where you want to be. Concentrating on the substance should work better than focusing on not dropping the soap.

Well, thanks for the info. I initially joined because when I imported my PSP I found so many other PSP owners on this board. Now that the PSP posts have died down some, it's good to talk next gen consoles. My question is straightforward, and I understand why I get crap for being a junior member, but I'm asking something that sparks conversation. Will we get to play it? Will we get to at least watch some gameplay from actual beta demos? It's interesting and I'm looking forward to May. Perfect Dark 0 would be a killer app. Also, I've never been to an E3 before. the closest I've been to one is when they do the live stuff on Gamespot, or G4 had some live stuff there last May. It must be a pretty awesome experience to be surrounded by not only games but people who share the same interests.
