Nexus Mods removes anti-gay Baldur's Gate 3 mod (Update: Nexus are too far lost in their sauce)

Nexus Mods has removed a mod which changed the gender of a character in a same-sex relationship in Baldur's Gate 3 and banned the account which uploaded it.

The mod, called Ser Aylin (no longer available on Nexus Mods but a version has been archived on Wayback Machine), targets Dame Aylin and turns her into a "fully immersive male version" of herself by changing her model, using AI to alter the voice performance of actor Helen Keeley, and changing NPC dialogue lines. Following Ser Aylin's upload by user Yedlike to Nexus Mods on 3rd December, Baldur's Gate 3 fans protested against the mod and asked others to not support it, noting it's part of a larger mod pack called No Alphabets. On 4th December, Nexus banned Yedlike for violating its community rules.

"This appears to be a throwaway account created to upload a mod that attempts to skirt our community guidelines. The site further supported its decision to remove the mod and Yedlike, stating it stands for inclusivity and diversity and "will take action" against anyone uploading mods which are against these values. "We have a right to choose what content we do and do not want to host on our platform," Nexus concluded.

The No Alphabets mod pack has not been uploaded to Nexus Mods, but can be easily found hosted on a different site by Googling. The description from its creator shows the true intent of the pack - to ensure "gender and sexuality of world NPCs match medieval status quo" by erasing any LGBTQ+ characters. The same creator has another mod which "revamps" Wyll to make him white.

Then Nexusmods need to make this absolutely clear and upfront in their list of platform rules. The creator of this mod is...an odd one, but this removal feels just as suspicious due to how nebulous their rules are.

It's the same issue I have with Twitch and their rule flip-flopping. They keep causing themselves public headaches because they don't make these things absolutely clear for all parties involved.

I played as the black warlock (Will?) guy for my playthrough. I just treated the characters as if I was him. Turned down advances from the gay folks, and furiously pursued Shadowheart and any other woman, lesbian or not.

I made a separate save and banged the bear just for the spectacle.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
I just wish nobody cared about any of this shit, in either direction. I’m so tired of seeing these articles and discussions. Shouldn’t we all go back to focusing on which bear we want to fuck?

There are all kinds of mods on Nexus that changes gender of characters in BG3, there is female Astarion and Gale and Male Laezel. Nexus mods seem to not have problems with any of them. But this one gets banned.
"and asked others to not support it, noting it's part of a larger mod pack called No Alphabets"

"No Alphabets", dude. Do you need it to be even more obvious about its intentions?

Imagine being this fragile to the point of making a mod like this

So they banned a mod that turned a female character transgender, in order to avoid a same-sex relationship?

I'll say, I really don't care about something like this in general, even if things were reversed.

Sex in videogames is the most ham-fisted, overtly blown, and ridiculous thing to get up in arms about. It's almost universally done poorly, and even in BG3's case, it's something I would call superfluous as it doesn't change the game in any significant way.

Let the assholes use the mods they want to use in the games they play. Or not. It's Nexus' prerogative to do as they see fit even if I don't agree with them. And I've almost universally disagreed with them in regards to what they deem is "allowable" on the site, there's plenty of allowed deviant ass shit on Nexus and they really like to draw the line in the sand at stuff like this...

And? They're mods. Nobody is forced to use them. I bet nobody would care if it was a white to black mod.

At the same time, I have no problem with Nexus booting this a-hole racist who was so offended that a black character existed that he spent hours crafting a mod to make the black guy white.

I mean wow, imagine how sad of a person this must be.

Come on, tell me you didn't at least wanna see it? It's not nearly as crazy as it sounds. There were no bear genitals or active humping. It was like the Lion King. Very PG compared to some of the other scenes.

A person enjoying his single player game the way he wants it is not “fragile”, fragile is when the idea that someone might enjoy things you don’t enjoy bothers you this much.

All these mods are now being hosted in another site, and whenever Nexus bans one they're basically giving the other site more traction.

Its kinda hilarious their actions are having the exact opposite effect they want. I would never have heard about half of those, like this one that non-newtonian spider man mod if they weren't actively removing them. 20 years later and people still haven't figured out the streisand effect.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
People should realize that this mod maker is flat out a bigot, who also made mods to make black characters white.

Why is making black characters white racist, but making all white characters black the best thing ever? To me it smacks of hypocrisy.

With that being said, BG3 has a diversity problem. This is unfortunately a trend with many of Larian Studios’ games, but their main cast tends to be overwhelmingly white. Wyll is BG3′s only person of color, which is beyond disappointing in so many ways. We’ve talked about the various ways the game fails with race before, which, hopefully, will get resolved in Larian’s next game.

Luckily, some fans have risen to the occasion to rectify this problem. A modder by the name of Alanté Carter made a mod that turns every character in the game Black. They decided to do this after a racist modder created a mod that turned Wyll white. That mod has since been banned from the website it was uploaded to, but the damage had already been done: It was a painful reminder of just how under-appreciated POC are in games.

On the one hand I agree that the mod creator is a bigoted pos who's too much of a baby to handle a gay character in a video game. On the other hand I hope slippery slop effect doesn't kick in. I've seen more and more stories this year of mods being taken down for being deemed "offensive" and my concern is that they will continue to push the envelope on what's deemed offensive and what isn't.

Years from now if nude, bikini, or "better body" mods start getting taken down, we can look back at these times on where this shit got started.

Or he's just a master troll knowing that they'll be taken down, articles written, and people tie themselves into emotionally charged false virtue and knots.

Going out of your way to make a mod, and even bother using AI to change the voice so you dont have to deal with "alphabets"?

Nah, thats pretty fragile to me

Be happy using your homophobic mod. Doesnt change my opinion that you would be a very fragile loser.

The modder sounds pretty pathetic, and ultimately nexus is free to choose which content they host on their site so I don't see the issue here.
But to an extent I still think it's a bit hypocritical to take issue with mods that force characters to be straight while being ok with mods that force characters to be gay/bi. To me it's sort of similar to the topic of race swapping fictional characters, it's not the race swapping itself that bothers me but the "it's only ok when they were originally white" part.

Just like with porn games and steam, I'm sure an alternative is already out there depending on what you search for. They're most likely just not well advertised or well known.
But that's the point of what we're saying. Nexus is a one-stop shop when it comes to mods for the large majority of games. I don't want to scour page 538 of a Knitting forum's thread on Hogwarts Legacy for a mod that changes Dumbledore into a orangutan.
